1. I'll bet you took your oath real seriously too, since you're talking about "rituals" like being respectful of the flag and the anthem being "silly." "I swear to protect and defend the silly old document they ratified in 1791, even though it's silly and old, and I can show respect for it in a lot of ways besides being compelled to protect and defend it..." By the way, can you show us where the OP argued for COMPELLING people to stand for the anthem? He did no such thing. No one is COMPELLED to do it, and that's as it should be. We should indeed, though, be entitled to EXPECT people to do it. No compulsion necessary. But most everyone these days seems to be of the "punk kid" variety. But I'll bet you watched the Olympics held in that peach of a country we call China... Really. Did he grab people nearby and FORCE them to stand? No, he just lamented that they would not do it of their own volition. And I'm sure that everyone who ever was drafted to fight is not interested in having anyone's respect for what he did, in fact, end up having to do even though it wasn't by choice. Nice logic, there. 2. Unless they were drafted, they did it for a paycheck, or their own sense of honor. Bravo for them. I sincerely hope that every active or retired member of the U.S. military gets around to reading your post, and arrives at an appropriate level of respect for you after that one. Be sure to get back to us when you've learned your first one. Must be you have qualms with the quality of public education. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
3. Excellent first response, "Just because". How is it that you can reproduce his line, word-for-word, and then completely misrepresent it in the very next line?! He did not say, "Just because." He said, "Because," and then gave you the reason. Then you proceeded to lie about it. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
4. Perhaps you could explain why it's such a big deal if someone else chooses to not salute the flag, or stand for our national anthem? The "big deal" is that it is demonstrative that our society is completely fragmented, disunited, and has not a single thing around which to gather and be proud and devoted and true and loyal. Yeah, who ever heard of unity being good for anything. The U.S. Congress should pass a resolution next week that says, "Ah, fuck it, everyone: just do whatever the hell you feel like, all the time, anywhere" and walk out. 6. They're just trying to get you acclimated to what life will be like under an Obama administration packed with liberal bureaucracy. 3 hours to get out of a convention. 7 months to get an MRI under "ObamaCare"... I hear that under ObamaCare, it's going to take 11 months for a woman to have a baby! (And it'll take longer to reach orgasm, which will of course be of shorter duration.) 7. Isn't that semantic? Enter a war on false premise, 10T in debt, Americans w/o healthcare and we must chant to some silly song. Semantic... ...silly song. You are just trying to bait someone to say something that will get them banned, aren'tcha. Well, I won't say anything to get myself banned, but I will say that your attitude is repugnant, and I would be pleased to read that you either don't live in the U.S. and are not a citizen, or you are leaving tomorrow. America does not have to be PERFECT for you to SHOW IT SOME FUCKING RESPECT! Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
8. I have witnessed the exact same thing. In fact, much to my disgust and distress, the last time I witnessed this was in downtown West Palm Beach, on Independence Day, as two firefighters rappelled down the face of a high-rise condo, unfurling the American flag as loudspeakers played our National Anthem. People were standing around, conversing, walking with their strollers pushing their kids who will no doubt grow up as ignorant as they are because look who they'll be learning from. I stood where I was, on a line for a hot pretzel, and put my hand over my heart until the anthem was over and the flag was unfurled. I didn't see a single other motherfucker do the same in my vicinity. I'll bet that the next oldest person to do so (I'm 36) was probably in his sixties, if any did at all. 9. Gee, I was overjoyed when I read the news today and found that they've reversed the decades-old trend of INCREASING THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WITH HIV and AIDS!! Finally, some actual progress, instead of running to stand still, or worse, backsliding! Finally something bad in the world, that's getting not as bad! I said to myself, "WOOT WOOT! Another victory for government programs and taxation for the benefit of the public! A declining rate of a deadly disease! Another victory!" And then I woke up, and read that as liberal as NYC is, the rate of increase of new HIV cases is FUCKING TRIPLE THAT OF THE REST OF THE COUNTRY!! TRIPLE!! I said TRIPLE Despite the "best efforts" of government, plus private concerns and educational non-profits, etc., NYC has managed to TRIPLE the national HIV infection rate! Tell us again how essential it is that government stick its nose into every fucking aspect of modern life. Are you going to tell us that the NYC/state/fedgov kept it DOWN to "TRIPLE," whereas it would otherwise have been, say, "QUINTUPLE" Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
10. *sits down and drinks tea and dunks a rich tea biscuit triumphantly* "Triumphantly"? Need I remind you, you limeys LOST the war... Which one is THE war? 1812? In context, without attempts at obvious obfuscation, kallend? The War for American Independence. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

12. Really? Then by all means, present that argument to a jury. If they buy it, more power to you. Part of my job, what clients seeking my advice pay me to do, is to analyze facts within law, and then combine that with with my 25 years' experience trying cases in front of judges and juries, to make an educated prediction of the client's chances of winnig or losing an actual or potential lawsuit. In my profesional evaluation, I predict about an 80% chance that you would lose. If I may be so bold, what is the percentage of cases you have taken to trial in which you have won? See, if you say that there's an 80% chance that Doug925 would lose at trial, but you win only 15% of your trials... Do you see where I'm going with this, counselor? 14. It has to do with the nature of the object in question. While just about any object -can- be used to kill somebody, the fact is that guns, especially the one being discussed in this thread, have a single purpose; to put a piece of lead into another person. Whether it's used defensively or offensively is up to the person pulling the trigger, but the fact remains that it does only have ONE purpose. That doesn't end up mattering one iota to the person who is murdered with a kitchen knife. And that happens VERY often, actually. Yet who do you know who's been held accountable for leaving them accessible? And who do you know who keeps their kitchen knives locked and inaccessible? I am inclined to agree, from the standpoint of consciencious. I hesitate to use the word "responsible" because I feel it does not apply correctly here. I don't feel that someone who is stolen from should be ... blah blah blah, I already told you how I feel. BILLVON! STOP POSTING MASQUERADING AS QUADE!! 15. It's funny how they still manage to want to come here: to live, to get an education, to sightsee, to get medical care, etc. We're such barbarians! I guess everyone loves a barbarian. Look, Arnold Schwartzenegger is governor of one of our largest states! But what was in my "previous post" that was so barbaric?? Did you mean "posts"? 17. heheheheHEHEHEHEBWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I scan some of your shorter posts for amusement value. So that means you are usually responding to me without actually knowing what I said... and then thinking that you're right. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
18. Whenever I'm in Walmart, and using my phone's calculator to divide out and figure whether the 35 lb. box of kitty litter is a better value than the 27 lb. box of kitty litter... I look around me... And I realize that I must be one of about, ohh... 2 people in the store who even know how to do what I am doing! Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
19. BikerBabe, thanks for an excellent post and explanation. I think you really nailed it.
20. Babelfish translation: STUPID NIGGERS!! Wow. Do you really hate black people that much? I guess you didn't know that I was thinking of some hispanic people in my office who do this, as well as some whites I have heard do this, in addition to the, um, ..."niggers." I guess when your head is stuck in a certain mode... and you'd rather leap to conclusions rather than wait for facts... Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
21. Quote>So, science states and confirms that though out the last 30 years >polar bear numbers are rising. (THAT IS A FACT) Ah yes, truthiness. It's what you feel to be true. You look those things up in your gut; that's how you know it's a FACT. Now, you could look it up in a book and see it's not true, but why? Books work through your brain. Truthiness works through your gut. Did you know that you have more nerve endings in your stomach than in your brain? THAT IS A FACT. Which kind of fact, though, Billvon? A truthy fact or a facty fact? Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
22. I think most people understood the subject line as being a question, as if from a child and that the response including the word "honey" would be as that from a mother to child. I'll admit a comma between the words, "oil" and "honey" may have made that more clear, but gimme a break. I didn't think people needed it to be explained to them, but I guess I was wrong. PS, Yes, I touched the "edit" as opposed to "quote" button by mistake, which is why your post above has the "edited" tag on it, even though I didn't change a word of your text. I occasionally make this error and every time I do I have to make this same apology and feel silly about it. Well, thanks for the explanation. I guess I won't bug out, in the future, if I see the same thing go on, even absent a similar apology. As for the "big oil honey," the reason I didn't make the connection you explicated here is that I immediately (blame it on the comma that should have been there, and the inept public schools that caused it not to be) started thinking that they were shooting for "big oil money" and not "big oil, honey"... 23. When leftist, big-government fans want to pass gun bans, they trot out the survivors of those who have been shot to death by criminals who got ahold of guns. Yet when we trot out people (like you, Nomad) who say they have lived how bad government-run health care is to show why it should be opposed, they will dismiss these "anecdotes" as irrelevant. 24. Birdman ??? You mean Birdlike, right?? Heaven help, if Birdlike now is a birdman, he might send his "messages" from heaven down to earth ..... HAHAHAHAHA!! Look who's playing the "Nazi" now! Nice going, christalsebine. Walked right into it, there. Especially being from Germany, this is an unflattering role for you to be voluntarily assuming... Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
25. One example. Yea, but that was a long time ago....2 days ago. Birdman, just quit, you are the grammar Nazi, even when it is unwarranted, as with this illustration. It really subtracts from your, uh message. Oh, god, do you really think that counts as an attack or a dig at someone's grammar? I simply expressed a request that we "all" stop using a very overused word that really should not be used in the form in which it is commonly used (mostly by news people, these days). That's hardly the kind of stupid picking-on-someone's-"fat-fingered-mistake". Do you think that nerdgirl took offense, or felt demeaned by my request? I hope she'll respond here about this. I'd like to know what she made of that post. I mean, for crissakes, I finished up the post with THIS!: Yet you cite this as me being a Grammar-Nazi. Since when do Nazis simply request politely that people voluntarily take their suggestions? You just keep hitting new lows in your effort to make me look bad. I think it ends up affecting you more than it affects me. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
