  1. Well, according to PD you are in the "Expert" category for wing loading and jumping their 2nd highest performing canopy. http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/W-L_Interpretations.pdf And completely off the chart for Brian's recommended canopy and wing loading. http://www.bigairsportz.com/pdf/bas-sizingchart.pdf But what the hell do these people know
  2. Who are these people and/or where do you jump? There is no way I am naming names so this mud-slinging can start affecting bystanders, but suffice it to say that these individuals are both competent canopy pilots with somewhere north of 14,000 jumps between them. 3. It's you that doesn't get it. Who the fuck are you to tell me I am being "stupid" when my DZO and S&TA have watched me jump and are happy with how I am doing? "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  4. Ok seriously how serious is this answer.. you are ready or you are not... that brings us back to the question that does jump nr's actually have something do to with it. You are not ready by 195 but you will be by 210 or 215 or 220. Lets say all of those are uneventfull solo jumps. But now because of 220 you are seen as more ready. How about at 100 jumps , but the last 30 or 40 have been recent and in 2 , 3 and 4 ways ? Who is more ready ? Just be glad you're not trying to downsize. Then you'd really have 'em after you. 5. Pull high enough and have enough canopy skills and spotting becomes a dead art. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  6. Are you looking for a comparative measure of how steeply different canopies are trimmed to give some idea of how they fly? My initial thought would be that the difference in length between A and D lines would set this angle, but I am quite sure that this is not the whole story when it comes to flight characteristics (recover arc, glide angle etc) as canopy designers manipulate many features to get the right "feel' to a canopy. Listening to Brian Germain, John LeBlanc etc it is very much a "black art". I guess what i am trying to say is that if you are looking to get an idea of how a canopy flies from the trim angle, you might be disappointed. I will now step aside and let someone who knows more give you a more complete answer. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  7. And just how was I supposed to know whose profile that was? No name was posted. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  8. There is no such thing. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  9. Why has nobody mentioned this before? "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  10. All absolutely fair comments. I do practice flares on every jump as part of my canopy checks and building muscle memory. I don't understand why some people don't. Particularly when jumping an unfamiliar canopy. It seems to me (and I am asking the question to learn here) that the Ravens are much less forgiving than, say, PDR, Smart or Optimums. Is that a fair statement? "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  11. Being out of date and so very different to a main is surely asking for trouble, especially for inexperienced jumpers, don't you think? You know much better than I do about this, I just know what I have seen, which is hard landings due to a stall. I am sure you are right that this was at least partly pilot error. I am still interested to know what Amazon's point was. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  12. Are you drunk? Look at what you wrote. It does not make sense. You obviously have no data. That does somewhat weaken your argument though. PS - I think you mean "cite". "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  13. I think you may be in denial. I know several people who have injured themselves due to stalling a Raven. It may have "more saves" than any other reserve (if you could post the source of this I would be grateful), but that doesn't mean it is a good reserve. There may be better options - open your mind. 14. So what was your point? "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  15. This thread seems to be getting your full attention. I do not know you nor do I know how skilled you are at 200 jumps if that is accurate... but DUUUUUUDE Your stats Jumps: 200 Years: 3 Disciplines: Swooping Freeflying Container: Infinity Main: Katana 135 ft² (1.52 lbs/ft²) Reserve: Optimum Reserve 143 ft² (1.43 lbs/ft²) AAD: Vigil As opposed to Jumps: 582 Years: 4 Disciplines: Freeflying Swooping Photographer: Yes Gear Container: Voodoo Main: Crossfire 2 139 ft² (1.55 lbs/ft²) Reserve: Raven Dash-M AAD: Cypres You confused me with this post. Who is the other person you are comparing me with? What is the point of this comparison? The biggest thing that stands out is that the second guy should REALLY get a decent reserve! Those Ravens are dangerous stall machines. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  16. Your info is out of date. According to PD.com, the vengeance has an aspect ratio of 2.72, whereas the Katana is 2.74. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA

    First solid sit

I am happy for you, too. There are a lot of people here who acts like a doos. Ignore them. Congratulations. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  18. As I have said before, I will be accepting coaching from only those who see me jump at the DZ. And no, I will not be posting video. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  19. It seems clear to me that "I told you so" is not constructive, and therefore the only reason for saying it is the pleasure gained by being right and demonstrating how knowledgeable the person was. i.e. gloating. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  20. Again, how is "I told you so" not gloating? How is it constructive? "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  21. "I told you so" sounds a lot like gloating to me. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  22. It sounds like you just need to get in the air more. Currency is king! "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  23. What about all the 1,000 + jump people who hook themselves in? There are lots of them but nobody says they were under the wrong wing. Perhaps it is not such a good feeling to gloat about a more experienced jumper fucking up "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  24. Funny ... DocPop got the same response from another astute observer almost 1 year ago... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3669089#3669089 DocPop, stop talking and post some video. And yet, still warm the blood that courses through my veins. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  25. I had my corner lesson too, mate. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
