Skydiving Magazine and the US Postal System
EDYDO replied to freakyrat's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Sounds like you have developed a positive relationship with them. Speak to them about the black ink that comes off on your hands when you read it. Ed -
I thought about the descent thing and that's why I mentioned that it never does it inside the plane under the same circumstances. It has me puzzled. It has done it several times. Ed

I have one of my Pro Track alarms set at 4500 feet. I have made several exits from 4500 feet and it alarmed ON THE STEP before I jumped. I have also been inside the plane when others jumped at 4500 and it did not alarm. There have been no ill effects, I just can't figure out what is going on. Anybody else experience this? Anybody understand it??? Ed

Make a print using glossy photo paper, then put a little moisture on it. I think you will decide HP is not a good printer to buy. Ed

For those who are asking via PM and those who may wonder. CASL is Carolina Skydiving League.

Does anyone else get "The Fear" at sub 1000ft?
EDYDO replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I started skydiving with the capewell cutaway system. I wouldn't say I have fear below 1000 feet, but occasionally I will glance at those little teeny pieces of 550 cord in the 3 ring system at low altitude and think; "You have got to be kidding!!! That's all that's holding me up here"!!! Ed -
Can you spell hijack???? I need computer help also. My notebook computer plays DVDs and has an S video port. I would like to use it with the TV in my motorhome. It would be a pain to install a DVD player in the system. I purchased an S video to composite cable and hooked the computer to the TV. It is not difficult to change the input on the TV, but how do you get the computer to output through the S video port? Ed

I am using a Canon I 900D and it is great, but now "old model". It was on sale, had an LCD window and the ink is water resistant. Had to ditch a Lexmark and an HP. Last time I checked, neither was producing a water resistant ink. Take a little moisture and put it to one of the pictures and you'll see what I mean. I understand some of the Epsons are quite good as well. Ed Edited to add: My Canon also has the individual ink cartridges, about 6 + or - at about $12 each.

I like Phreezone's cutaway so well, that I made one for my FFX. I did make one change that made me feel more secure. It is a quickpin instead of the cotter pin. I like the detent it provides. Pix is attached. Ed

Don't get hurt at ASC or the Farm
EDYDO replied to pilotdave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The article leaves some things unsaid and that makes a difference. It is stated that it is only for calls that do not require transportation to a medical facility. It may be time for USPA to get involved since skydiving is singled out. That is clearly wrong. With that said, perhaps we should bear more responsibility for getting ourselves out of trees, just don't call the government. This is essentially a user fee and user fees sound pretty fair until you realize that taxes formerly paid for the service and when the user fee is implemented, the tax stays as well!!! Ed -
Mounted my Neptune to the back of my Neuman glove with screws and washers. Alti-2 provided a piece of fabric for the inside of the glove that reinforces the hold. It is really convenient and comfortable. I have about 300 jumps on it. Ed

Keeping it clean. You are so ugly that when you cry, the tears go down the back of your head to keep from going across your face!!!

Larry you don't need to buy new, but at least get some decent modern gear. Ed

Same age, same height (within 1"), same weight, similar experience. I said the exact same thing upon return to the sport. That was over 500 jumps ago. The new equipment and skills will hook you for sure!!! After your refresher jumps, get something around 210 at first to keep you safe and then drop down to a 170 for the fun. More forward speed equals more flare and easier landings after you learn how. Know this, many years have passed and these guys are WAY better than the best of us years ago. They have the experience of years of 13,000 foot jumps. You have a lot to learn and it will be more fun than you can possibly know. Get with POPS!!!!! www.thepops.org Ed

http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1298912;search_string=resize;#1298912 Someone suggested this and I downloaded it last week. This is a resize program from Microsoft and it is free. After getting the download and install, just right click on the image, there will be an option for resizing. You specify the size you want (maybe 4X6) and a new image will be placed in your pictures folder with a "small" in the new name. Cheap and easy. Ed Edited to make "clicky" work.

Jumping out of Cessna with regular doors. Possible? Issues?
EDYDO replied to tecdady's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hey Guys, (not just directed at you, Sparky) This is starting to sound WAY too complicated and it isn't. I would hate to see someone miss jumps because they thought it too confusing or difficult. 1. Approval for flight with door removed (FSDO) Since the planes in question are already on the list, it is as easy as asking FSDO and getting your mechanic to sign it off. (Sometimes I don't bother. That's between me and the pilot and sometimes I am the pilot.) 2. Get permission from airport management (or other property owner.) 3. Notify ATC one hour in advance (I thought this was a NOTAM, but maybe not.) 4. Radio contact with ATC before the jump. Now go jump. It isn't a difficult process. Ed I almost forgot, do you know how to spot??? (especially not directed at you, Sparky) -
That is exactly what I expect to happen. One almost started putting the rig on before he backed out. A lawyer can be quite inventive when it comes to backing out. I would like to see these same guys just off the ski lift at the top of a mountain. How are you gonna talk your way out of that one? Ed
-
If you want a good whuffo story to tell, do this. First, tell the other jumpers what you are doing so they will go along. Then, get in a crowd of whuffos, preferably rednecks and pretend to be a whuffo. It won't take long to find an easy target, ie: the big talker. Encourage his bravado, let him set himself up and then say, "I will if you will." It can get really funny. Billy Bob, you go ahead. Ed

Seems like a poor plan to me, what about the times you jump a friends rig or demo a rig? With a Pro-Track or Neptune, you can carry them with any rig and your log stays current. You are also using the batteries in the Vigil more. I prefer to keep my AAD batteries as fresh as possible. Ed

When I started jumping, there were only two of us and my plane only held two, so I had to do static lines with the pilot as jumpmaster. In today's world, I would think twice about training at a DZ where they do that. It's just no longer necessary and adds an unnecessary element of risk. Ed

A wild turkey crossed the road quite close in front of me at the entrance to Blue Sky Adventures, South Carolina. Do you suppose they could boost business by advertising a combination package with skydiving and turkey hunting? Ed
