Thanks guys, great information. I wanted to learn more about what was happening and what to do about it. I also wanted to warn others as to the time bomb that lurks in many of our computers. Ed

Yep, you are exactly right. I did a LOT of searching. It is just irritating to have to go to all of the hassle and PAY microsoft again, just because one component in my computer failed. I also fault emachines for not having a replacement board. It appears from my searches that nearly all big manufacturers use bios lock and smaller shops use pre-activated. I am going to watch Ebay for an unregistered OEM copy and re-install. I had my files backed up on CD, but I am still losing the program software (right??). I had Microsoft Works package with Picture it Publishing and Word, both of which I used a lot. I have no idea how to recover that. On top of putting my files on CD, I recently used Norton's Ghost to back up everything. I thought I had all bases covered, but the software engineers figured how to take much of it away. A major point is that unless you buy the full package or have the pre-activated version, it can happen to you. Ed

I just learned the difference between Windows XP OEM pre-activated and Windows XP bios lock. I had a motherboard go bad and it could not be replaced with an original. I lost my operating system, software and files due to bios locked Windows XP from e-machines. It was great for about 15 months and then wham, lost everything, no safe mode, no nothing. For those who don't know, bios lock operating systems can not be re-activated with a different motherboard and pre-activated can. So, how can you tell BEFORE a crash that your operating system is bios locked? I don't ever want to rely on that again and I don't know how to tell. Ed

OK, Been there done that !!! Obviously, everybody is not the same, so this is for what it is worth. I had neck pain for years. Went to MD, Physio, Chiropractor; the whole bit. Finally it started working down into my back and around my rib cage. That's when the MD did x-rays and decided it was my gall bladder and it needed to be removed. (didn't do that.....go figure). To make a long story short, I was telling my tale of woes to a Physio friend and he said come into my office on Monday, which I did. He poked around my back (deep) with his knuckles, hunting a sore or tender area and he found about 4. He worked them out (it really hurt in a good sort of way). That cured the problem and since that day, finding and working those deep target areas solves the neck pain. That was 15 years ago. It felt better immediately, but it took about 3 days to be completely gone. He didn't even charge me. I think I should give him credit, his name is Don Lowe from Florence, SC. He is now retired and his son runs his practice. Ed

I hope this link works. If not do a search on "Post your camera helmet" and look for his post. This is a pix he posted before the flash. Perhaps he can tell you what he did to add the flash. Ed http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=34538;

I beg to differ......but a guy at my DZ (BlueSBdeath) has a RAWA with video/still/flash Jake, Not unless he changed helmets in the last few weeks. That is a 2K Composites helmet. The principle may well be the same. It is definitely a unique setup. Ed

Glad to hear this was a win/win situation. I sold my gear once after a really good offer thinking I could just buy some more. What a hassle !!! My new Javelin took 2 months to arrive and I was begging gear for all of that time. Ed

Everyone who decides to quit should hold on to their gear for 6 months because it often works out this way. Ed

They have a fast climbing King Air and a C182. They now have the financial backing to provide whatever aircraft is needed to meet demand. If we want it, we just need to support it. Edited: Marquis, just looked at your profile and realized who you are. There are people there doing that silly looking head down stuff. Get on I-95 and come on up. I will introduce you to them. Ed

Jeff, I will be there Saturday weather permitting. You have someone to jump with. John Terry (Air Trash) says he is coming as well. Maybe I can get Bill V. to show up. It should be a good group. Ed

I was at Parkton, NC today and the foundation has been dug for a new 3000 sq ft building for packing, video, etc. They are getting rid of the old "gypsy camp" look. Looks like things are gonna be really nice. It's at I-95, Exit 33 just south of Fayetteville in North Carolina. Most of the drop zones for 100 miles around were closed today (Jan 1) and it was like an unplanned boogie. Jump runs were at 14000 plus for 20 bucks. We had a ball !!! Ed

I experienced the same frustration two years ago when we activated XM at Christmas. I don't know what they are doing wrong, but the problem went away after numerous calls and about 48 hours. I suspect holiday service is just poor. No problem since. Ed

Man, I wish I could harness that enthusiasm, put it in a can and sell it. I would be rich. You are entering the biggest adventure of your life. Ed -
Watching that white canopy spin down is getting really old. They were just interviewed on "The View", just before one of the Menendez wives. I didn't hear anything about the main opening normally and the screw ups that followed. Ed

http://www.adrenalens.com/d60remote.htm See if this link works to the Ebay, Gaffers tape and beer thread. That is the best I have seen. Ed

60 jumps on my 168 and not one problem with the openings. Ed

Another way to see the light is to buy a 1/2 inch round mirror with a stick on back at a drug store and put it on your hand mounted altimeter. This is probably the easiest and least expensive way to do it. Ed

The part about the pilot wearing the parachute, is that a part of the regs? Ed
