The article makes a good point about the lack of certification for helmets specifically designed for skydiving, but like i said i'm without doubt my non certified DOT helmet saved me from recieving serious head injuries and i'm glad i was wearing it at the time. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

With regards to an aborted landing at Headcorn,Kent,UK which sadly resulted in the loss of the pilots life I was unfotunately on the load and recieved relatively minor spinal injuries and stayed in hospital for 2 days. I have just recovered my helmet which fortunately i was wearing at the time and i am left with no doubt that my helmet saved me from severe head injuries from the resulting crash. The helmet is totally trashed to the extent where i can almost push my finger through the carbon fibre weave, however no head injuries unless you can count a nose bleed were recieved. My apologies this subject has been posted before .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

Need canopy selection advice - leaving accuracy jumping
trigger replied to mircan's topic in Gear and Rigging
I keep recommending this one: Icarus Safire 1. Soft openings, superb glide and suitable for novice to expert canopy pilots alike. Should be able to get a very good deal on a secondhand one to .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER. -
If you would like to save some cash i,d reccommend an orignal Safire1. Don't what the '2' is like, but i liked the original, sweet canopy imo. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

*** So you're going to say that because of lack of prior organization and planing and insufficient skill level, those low skill jumpers should be tasked with conducting an on heading full speed track barrel roll? No thats the job of the higher skill jumpers who kept on pace and in at the base. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

It's all well and good saying 'zoo' dives shouldn't happen, but that's the ideal world. Fact is they do,not just at club level, but large organised boogies to. Take Vichy, France for an example. AN72 reatively large tailgate jet capacity for 90 or so jumpers. Minimum 15 jumpers per group organised freefly by world renowned professional coaches, mixed ability on groups. Now what have you got .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

>Unless there is evidence and I mean proof of people doing BRs during >a track and then colliding with another jumper then whats wrong with it? I've seen perhaps a dozen close calls, two collisions and one fatality from people not looking below them during breakoff. The way to solve this is to pay more attention to what is going on beneath you, not to look away during the most critical part of the breakoff. ***Were these close calls caused by the higher jumper barrel rolling? i suspect not, they just weren't paying attention. On the other hand a well excuted barrel roll by the lower jumper[assuming these people were on the same dive]might have helped avoid a situation. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

***Why is barrel rolling so necessary for freeflying but not flat flying? Didn't say it wasn't necessary for flat fliers, but as i have no real experience of flat flying with others i can't really comment. What i would like to say is that if you lose sight of one or more of the jumpers on your big freefly 'zoo' dive it might be wise imo to check the airspace above you at break off and before you pitch. This can be done by barrel rolling as you track. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

It's your money so buy what you like. The only reasonable argument i can see for cypres is its been around for sometime, hence well proven. Isometimes wonder tho i suspect they probably had problems when first released it on to the market. Question now is how much faith do you put into the R&D of the others players now on the field. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

Good for you....dz com isn't the be all and end all. When i feel it's necessary i barrel roll whilst maintaining my track, admitedly all my jumps are freefly for which the skill to BR whilst tracking can be literally lifesaving imo. Such skills may not be relevant amongst the flat fliers tho. As much as i don't like the idea of coliding with another canopy whilst in free fall,i sure as hell don't want someone to collide with mine. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

Queation is..what can we,the great british jumping public do to reduce the obscene membership fee's the bpa imposes on us to enable us to jump in our country. Any idea's anyone. Abolish the 'SKYDIVE MAG' for starters and don't allow the fee's to fund law degrees if thats the case and crucify those who have a vested interest within the organisation, name names and shame. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

Don't think basic rigging should be a requirement, but i think it's wise to be able to aleast inspect your kit for things that may require the attention of a rigger. Overstretched spandex pockets etc. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

Tho not the latest and greatest,if you can demo an original Safire,a lovely canopy imo. Cheaper than the newer stuff leaving you with more cash for jumps .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

You're right. but i honestly don't believe anyone takes the quips personally But on a more positive note i think the 'sarcasm' does add fire to a debate ,pushing people to defend their opinions .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

Correction: i do "do" things - i barrel roll; looking out for the higher jumper who's on a collision course with me because the're too busy looking at themselves in a mirror .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

I' m no computer expert but if you own a intel chipped dual core mac you can download/install bootcamp which enables you to partition the hard drive and run microsoft[cough cough]xp on your mac .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER. -
Absolutely right as i don't own joe90 magnifying goggles, knickers on fish are definately safer and more reliable than the micro mirrors you suggest,i bet you've never tried those or honing your barrel rolls .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

Not directed at anyone. I'm a barrel roller, when i feel it is necessary to check my airspace at break off and at pull time. I don't believe a higher jumper would necessarily spot a lower jumper, peps just generally seem to take their horizon/heading and track like a mofo blissfully unaware a the lower jumper doing exactly the same thing. Wrist mount mirrors i simply find laughable, they're pre-summingly tiny and if not directed where they need to be directed propably about as much use as knickers on fish. Where as a higher jumper,i believe does stand out very well against a cler blue sky. Some say barrel rolling is'Dangarous' well so is skydiving so i say stay on the ground Some say only if you're proficient at it,so lets encourage people to work on the skills which may save their ass, including good tracking skills although as previously stated if you have two good trackers at different levels what good wil it do if the jumpers havn't spotted one another. Guess we all need eyes up our arses...... .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.
