I used to jump a 175 at around 1.5, it used open pretty qickly and slam me once in a while. Probably down to poor packing techniques. But reading the other reviews and speaking to a chum that had a 155, it may have been down to design. My one eventually disintegrated over Vichy in 2000, I would not have another one due to the opening characteristics, it flew pretty well though and in my experience would out fly, and out surf similarly loaded sabres. YMMV. The sabre had a 'crisper' handling. I jump a spectre now, and really appreciate the openings, talk about chalk and cheese!. Wishing you soft and fluffy openings D PS I agree with Chucks review in the gear section which I just read, I must have had an 'older' model.

Dagnabbit Ramon, some of us have to work to feed our addictions , although Ted's suggestion of tunnelling out on Friday afternoon has a certain appeal.....

Don't forget the Euros like Bruno, Henny, Swardy, Patrick, Andi, Willy, Martijn, Andrey or the Antipodeans like Wendy.......Surely they are all terrible cinematographers too. Cya D

When do I get started in Skydiving Phoography
nacmacfeegle replied to DZDale's topic in Photography and Video
In the Uk it used to be 200 jumps minimum, but as the Drewfus dude stated, you should be competant at the discipline you intend filming before starting to film. Jump numbers should NEVER be taken as an indication of cross discipline ability, ie 200 crew jumps won't make you a good Free fly camera jockey. etc......There's loads of good info about, and don't forget to befreind an experienced camera flyer and seek advice, it'll save you some pain, money , or even both! Happy snapping.... D -
I'm all about freedom of choice, however in order to make a considered choice, you have to consider 'everything'. Aircraft occassionally crash, asl Omri. Things inside crashing aircraft fly around at high speeds. Think about gnarly exits and funnels. Think about off landings. Think about those high wind days when you know you really should stay on the ground, but haven't jumped for ages. Think about canopy collisions. Think about riser slap. Where are you gonna put your audible? Personally, I wear a helmet cos thats the way I was raised (mandatory in the UK), and it helps keep my specs in place.. Cya D

I had my logbook in a rucsac stolen from the back of my car, it had my home phone number etc in it and a 'reward if found' statement. When the hoodlums that stole my gear split up their haul of sleeping bags, jumpsuits, and dirty laundry, they chucked my loogbook into some bushes in the park opposite my house, and the park gardeners found it. And were subsequently rewarded with 25 UK sterling in used fivers!!! Never saw my jumpsuit, s/bags, or dirty laundry again though......gawd I miss those socks Cya D Don't leave anything valuable in plain view in your car, not even dirty laundry!!!!!

"Strong winds were really screwing with my depth perception." How do you work that one out? Probably more like strong winds making your canopy fly in an 'unfamiliar' way, eg more lift at lower ground speed? Not flaming you Clay, I know you are non-flammable-nomex guy..... Cya on the ballon in may. D

I wear flexvision goggles over my prescription glasses, have done for years, nae worries, nae hasssles. also think about these http://www.sportrx.com/ Have heard good reports but never tried 'em out. Dave

After pulling everything in their correct order, unzipping the jump suit for more lift, tracking for the pond, etc I seem to remember my FJC instructor telling me the following:- Elbows tucked in to your sides, palms pressed firmly together, thumbs to sternum, fingers pointing upwards at chin level.......eyes closed, but open optional.

"not just for the Texans and Californians...." At least one Scotsman (honorary Texan) will try and be there too ....Look out for a purple tie dyed javelin. Another for the balloon yeehaw! Cya In May
