"Also, does anyone know a good way to disguise them during the workday? " Avoid sneazing? ducks cute birdie attack... Seriously, I think they are no longer cool, it seems like every other person has a face piercing somewhere. I think its so last century. Is this some kind of uniform statement of individuality? "Especially if the Croatians are drinking too- presto! You're not drinking early OR alone! " Har, but here's the rules. you have to drink the equivalent of the time zone. For example as beer oclock strikes in say New Zealand, you might have a Steinlager, as time marches on perhaps a Redback from Australia. Singhai from Thailand, Lion to represent Africa, you get the picture. What we need is for representatives of each timezone to offer the local favourite sundowners, and we'll have the definitive guide to drinking at any time of the day. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. I have a wrist mount made from webbing which works quite well, mebbe post some pics later.... I have got some cool deployment shots from it. But yeah they are pretty much just for trick shots, and narcisism (sp?) -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Hey, how about this for a fund raising suggestion, everytime someone posts a first here on the forum, we should badger them into buying a case for HH via paypal. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Some of them choose not to have one because they don't trust it, which is also a valid reason." The only other reason which I've heard, is the thrill of being master of your destiny. The guy who used this rationale was busted doing 147 on his bike, and no longer jumps..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Actually Lisa, I think you should blow the loot on a trip to Amsterdam this summer, and then demand that the Euro dizzydotcommers come party with you. You'll fall off the bike, the pooter will crash, and you could probably pick a tax free rio (mp3 player) in Schiphol for a reasonable fee. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. How much fun can a Sabre 2 190 be loaded at 1:1?
nacmacfeegle replied to Viking's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Viking, you'll have a pile of fun swooping that 190, remember Clay when he got his Stilletto? One thing, tho I'm sure your aware of it, the ground can still bite you at "conservative" wingloads.... Be safe and have fun. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Shamu! "I think getting Iraqi oil production going again will bring the biggest thing needed to do all of the above - money." I agree, but I am realistic enough to realise that the money, in immediate terms, will have to come from us, you and me, our governments, the UN etc. In 98-99 the Iraqis were struggling to sustain themselves under the oil for food programme. Now the regime has essentially been neutered, in terms of licensing oil production, all bets are off. There will have to be a certain amount of reinstatement of facilities, and whole new debacle over who exploits which field, runs pipelines, refineries (you can't just take oil out of the ground and put it into tankers or pipelines, it invariably requires cleaning up) etc. Whilst all this arguing will be going on, the Iraqis will be without a means of generating money. Take for example a main oil line export pump station, how long do you think it takes to get one from scratch? 1 month?, 2 months?, more likely its closer to 2 years. Even once all the licensing and repair wrangles are ironed out, and production does indeed start to dribble though again, there's no guarantee that the money will go where it is needed. Take for example Nigeria, its ostensibly an oil rich state, but I've seen some shocking poverty and deprivation there. Add to the mix the fact that a much of the north of Iraq, where a lot of the oil actually is, is now under Kurdish control. Is there any guarantee that the Kurds will want to give this up to a people who have been wailing on them for 30 years? Call me cynical, but I don't see a quick fix and a promotion to a Saudi Arabian style state for a good 5-10 years. Meantime, its the "little people" that will continue to suffer. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Har, take solace in the fact that as you rip the top off a cool one, some poor soul is getting up to go to work... Pfffft! I have a couple of rigs, I only have a cypres in my main sport rig, the excuse for not having them in my others is financial. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "How far would you take it? Refuse to be on the same skydive with them? Refuse to be on the same plane load? Refuse to be on the same dz? " Lets also look at a few other performance affecting influences. Would you jump on the first load with someone who you know was up till 4 or 5 am doing body shots in the DZ bar? What about the guy who just drove all night across country to make the first load? Or jumping with newbies who you know are out of their depth on that 8 way you just got onto? Or perhaps a person you know doesn't have the skills to land their brand new pocket rocket on an off field landing? Would you get into a landing pattern with someone who doesn't really fly all that well, or disciplined? Maybe accept a lift back to the dz from someone who has just had half a dozen beers in the local town of an evening? Truthfully, the answer is probably yes. But I would tend to keep a wary eye open for things. There aren't any hard and fast rules that I impose on myself regarding my choice of jump pals, I find its best to be flexible and try and adapt my attitude depending on the circumstances. I'm not afraid that someone will take me out, crash into me or otherwise spoil my skydive. I like to think that I have enough awareness and sufficient basic skills to either avoid a freefall incident, deal with it when it does occur, repair the scratches to my helmet, or fork out for a new Cypres cutter. I get twitchy in traffic under canopy, so I will tend to take a slightly longer walk, rather than land with the hot pilots. I'm more worried that the person will biff themselves up and then I have to deal with the emotions of seeing a friend carted off in a meat wagon, due to their own stupidity. I'm kinda selfish about seeing my friends mashed up. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
