  1. Hey Dave, try this... http://www.autopure.com/chequer1.htm Okay the company is based in Taiwan, but I'm sure you can find similar locally if you use some of their product descriptions and a little google.... Or google for "checker mat", or its European spelled cousin "chequer mat". The real stuff is called checker (or chequer) plate over here, occasionally its also known as Durbar plate, Durbar being its original manufacturer. Hope this helps, Cy'all Dave -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 2. "Sure would be a lot easier to edit from, though the media is a little bit steep" No firewire, no Lanc (no cameye), edit output control is via USB2. None of my editing gear will work very well with this. Sony actually had a DVD cam out a couple of year's ago if my alzheimer's addled brain serves me well. It had on board editing functions, and it looked like it could be useful for say tandem flick fliers, I don't know what happened to it. I'll stick with minidv just now, thanks. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 3. Pyke, the price difference between tape types becomes quite insignificant when you buy them in batches of 10 or more at a time. I buy mine mail order and pay about £2.20 each, Sonys cost about £2.50, chipped sonys about £6.50 There was a problem a few years back with head clogging, this transpired to be caused by tape binder from different manufacturers being incompatible with each other. Specifically Sony, and everyone else's tapes. Long story so I won't bore you with it here, suffice to say its not that big a deal these days. Its still best to pick one tape manufacturer and stick to them. I use Panasonic 'DVM' tapes, as I have had no problems with drop outs or clogging, and I had a legacy batch anyway. Other people swear they have had drop out problems with Panasonic, but not I. I put pretty heavy wear on my minidv deck editing, but have no clogging / dropout issues, maybe I'm just lucky. I don't use 'chipped' tapes as all my titling is 'post production'. Happy snapping. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Vector 3 M with a skyhook, B-12's, logo's, Black and Royal blue Sabre2 - Royal blue, navy blue, black PD reserve - Red " Curious why you would order B-12s? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "I would be very wary if a towel head seats next to me in any flight" Yeah, you'd be much, much, much safer in another row on the plane...... 9. If after an hour, the error code persists, try hitting the recessed reset button with a paper clip or similar. Had this problem with my PC7 when it used to get the moisture blues. Avoidance is a good thing , try and keep your camera in a warm dry environment, never open it in a humid or damp atmosphere etc... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 10. Scatsta and Sumburgh in the Shetland Islands. Sumburgh is the only international airport I've been to that didn't have a bar, and its pretty tricky to land at. Its in the Airline pilots top ten worst approaches. Atyrau in Khazakstan is pretty poor. Lagos sucks, way too much bribery going on. Somebody said Amsterdam....have to disagree, Schiphol is one of my favourite airports. Finally, appealling to my sense of 'quaintness', there is Barra airport, the runway is the beach, 'Washed by the tide twice a day it is the only beach airport in the world to handle scheduled airline services'.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 12. "It's not like it's gonna cost a fortune to use slightly larger diameter pins is it?." Okay, I do pipes, pumps, and control systems for an entirely different type of rig, so am just thinking out loud... Won't larger diameter pins create more 'sticktion'/friction at the loop leading to increased pull force required? There must be 'tougher' /'stiffer' materials available ...This means we wouldn't have to change anything else..... We shouldn't reinvent the wheel, just make it out of better materials. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 18. "I say yes. But then again, in the past 2 weeks I was almost hit by two different elderly drivers (how they miss seeing my big-f***ing truck is beyond me). 23. Thanks for keeping me right on the registration thing, although the logic for not registering firearms is puzzling to me... "and if necessary, overthrow our government." So much for democracy then.... "Like say... to prevent terrorism???
