  1. I'm dragging my husband to see Star Trek...does that count? I mean, it's got a good story, character development, and some smoking hot guys (who would have ever thought to have a celeb crush on Spock, but holy hell...) So it's a chick flick, right? 2. as an educated engineer and project manager by experience...i love these!!! Both sides are sooooo true Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  3. I'll be there thursday and friday =) Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  4. Bioware's Star Wars: The Old Republic...ooooooh baby, can't wait. Nice to see there's a couple other gamers around this community. i usually don't talk about it because most skydivers just think i'm weird. but let me tell you, watching the coverage on youtube or gamespot is completely and totally LAME compared to actually being there. It is the most visually and aurally stimulating and stunning place i have EVER been. constant noise, light, color, and people...amazing. 5. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,522637,00.html why, then, the subsequent demands by the county to pay for permits for religious assemblies? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  6. ok, fine. they aren't denying it. and why should they? they're the ones who later sent a notice requesting purchase of a permit for religious assemblies. Seriously. parking violation or not? if it is, then why the attempt to extract permit money from them later? why the religious questions? My argument is if it's just a parking spat as you claim, then the purpose of the meeting shouldn't matter. The county official should say "your parties are against zoning/parking laws, move the cars" and that's IT. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  7. perhaps, but the county is freely admitting that they asked the pastor and his wife if they pray, say amen, praise the Lord, etc. this goes back to the original stories. And the county isn't denying it. So once again...why does it matter? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  8. sure...but once again i ask, why are bible studies a "grey area"? If it's a parking violation, it's a violation, give them a ticket and move on. Seems pretty black and white to me. why does it matter what they were doing in the house? If it's not about religion at all...then why bother asking what they were doing? 9. Wendy, since marc is getting technical here, the only option available right now in Iowa is NO marriages at all, since the Iowa marriage statute was deemed unconstitutional, thus leaving a void in state law where marriage is concerned. Currently there is NO LEGAL STATUTE in Iowa which grants marriages. So according to Marc's reasoning, there can be no marriages granted in Iowa until the legislature writes a new law. 10. what Wendy is saying, quite simply, is that there does not NEED to be a law that makes those marriages legal. They ARE legal by the simple fact that refusing to marry them is illegal. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  11. lmao i'd have been in the loony bin a long time ago if that was the case. really i just love to argue Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  12. not sure that's what they did. they CAN order the state to stop PREVENTING those marriages from occurring. There is a huge difference. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  13. so if there is not a law specifically allowing something, then that thing is illegal? Is that truly what you are implying? Stop to think about that if you are. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  14. no, i'm not going anywhere. let others imply what they wish from your answer. All I am doing is trying to understand your position. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  15. thank you. so, in your opinion, was the ruling in Brown v. Board of Education improper? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  16. in the giant post you made. i think you forgot to provide the citation is all. I want to know where you quoted it from. "Where We Stand:...." Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  17. who is "we" in your quoted position? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  18. they aren't supposed to? did you learn about the whole "checks and balances" concept in high school civics class? How else should the USSC be a check to the legislative and executive branches of our government if not by "setting policy from the bench" or being "activist?" declaring a law/action unconstitutional is expressly checking the powers of another branch...and could easily be considered "activism" or "setting policy". So how SHOULD the checking function be done? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  19. grats! and i have to agree about NM. I lived there for 4 years and it is truly hard to beat. Not only is it a beautiful sight for the eyes...it ain't bad for the tongue, either. damned if i don't long for fresh roasted green chiles every fall... NM cuisine is the best in the US, hands down. 20. so my weekly small group is a private party like any other. that just happens to read the bible when we're there. My point is that singling out "religion" in the zoning is what needs to be looked at here. why do zoning laws prohibit the free exercise of religion? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  21. I would also be curious to know the division of the SC in those 60% of overturned cases. A lot of 5-4 decisions wouldn't surprise me, given the current ideological make-up of the USSC... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  22. LMAO! oh boy, i haven't laughed that hard in a while... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  23. no, read my previous post with my disclaimer. personally, yeah, it worries me because a weekly part of my life may be in jeopardy. But on a larger level, it's worrisome because i think it's pretty intrusive. I don't care if you're meeting in your house to talk about Jesus, Buddha, Allah, guns, the Chargers, or pink elephants. People should be allowed to freely assemble in their homes. You know i have been using a weekly sports party as an analogy, but that's perhaps not controversial enough. What if, say, the neighbors had a weekly swingers party/orgy? And the fundamental question is...why is one type of weekly gathering a zoning issue, and another not? Cars on the street and blocking access, etc is the SAME, no matter what the purpose of the meeting is. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  24. ok,of THAT i'm jealous! Vegas is only a 5 hour drive for me. ho hum. but Glaciers! always wanted to go Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  25. well, either way, i have to wonder: If this had been a weekly sports-watching party, would we even be talking about it now? Even if one of the semi-buzzed fans hit a neighbor's car, would the neighbor have called the county or handled it like most normal people handle a fender-bender? Would it even be in the news?
