  5. I'm sorry, I'm not a rigger so I don't really understand this. Does the fact that you've made a point of the statement mean that one method is wrong? Or one method is better than the other? My next question would be to ask if this is the way all of these containers have been manufactured or whether it was a one off and whether any sort of recall or check is being done on the rest of the containers. But since Rob or John have commented but not mentioned anything about the construction can we assume they are standard? Guys? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

Exisiting discussion in Wingsuit forum. Be sure to check out the nice montage that Jarno did... Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  11. Nice cut and paste job Jarno. Did you do it manually or automate it some how? I did a rough calculation, assuming the penultimate picture is pretty much the full height of the jumper and assuming they are 6 foot tall (1.8m), it takes up 62 pixels on the screen. From the touch down point to the top of the picture is 861 pixels. That makes the maximum height of the picture at 83 feet (25 m)?? Sound about right? Is the jumper Russian? 15. I don't see it. The video shows a higher res version and I still don't see it. I'm not saying it's not there, just that I can't see it on the picture. Anyone else? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  17. From St. Louis today.com If the photo has been released to the AP, can we expect to see it printed? These engines are widely used, isn't it more likely that failure was due to something other than negligence on the part of the desginer/manufacturer? But I guess the manufacturer has the biggest pockets for settling with rather than go to court? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  18. Is that going to happen in today's market? John said to me that the material was more durable than exisiting F111 but I doubt it would compare with zero porosity. People usually buy a main primarily for it's flying performance rather than it's pack volume so why would they want something that isn't going to last for 1000 jumps. They only people who are going to be putting a significant number of jumps onto these canopies are PD's test jumpers, even after they are released. Do you not trust PD? What is riskier, overloading a well proven reserve or correctly-loading a less proven one? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  19. John LeBlanc was jumping a 143 reserve, made out of this special material, as a main at Spa in Belgium last week. He said it packed as small as his 90 (Velocity?) and fit inside his Power Racer. It did look very small bagged. I asked him about the collapse of Perserverance Mills and he said, "You didn't think we'd put all of our eggs in one basket, did you?" 20. No. Well yes, because it's only ever been talked about in relation to reserves before but I talked with John LeBlanc at the SPAcials event in Belgium last week and he was jumping a reserve as a main made out of the same material. It was a 143 that he said packed as small as the 90 (but that is probably a cross-braced Velocity) his Power Racer was sized for. It did go into a tiny little bag. I said that I'd assumed that the idea had fallen by the wayside due to the collapse of Perserverance Mills but he said, "You don't think we'd have all of our eggs in one basket do you?", with a wry smile on his face... Plus Shawn's recent post alludes to an announcement from PD soon. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  22. Just recently did my 400th tandem. I'm pretty sure I've jumped in higher winds than the official (BPA) limit as I've been going backwards most of the time. Pretty challenging, and quite mentally draining as you have to be thinking the whole time. I wouldn't like to do it regularly, but as long as it's not gusting, and I have a couple of catchers (shaggers) and spotting I trust, I would jump in the mid-to-high 20's. I recently broke my personal best for most number of tandems in a day by doing 9 (the most sport jumps I've done in a day is 8 and since I'm a property owner and no longer have that kind of money, and I'm not in a team, I'm unlikely to better that anytime soon!) and then did 8 the next day, all of which I packed myself (although they were mostly done on Hops - small (330 sq ft) canopies with light toggle pressure and easy landings). I didn't feel too bad and felt like (wanted, even) that I could do more, but there were no more to do. Mind you, I get to sit behind a desk for the next five days after that; it would be different if I was doing it every day. Although, I did go out for a 12km run the next day. How much phys do you do Regan? I find it helps me a lot. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
