  1. I wonder if online storage will be viable/cost effective? I currently use 5GB of free space on SkyDrive to store all my personal favourite pictures. GMail currently has 7GB of storage and Google Pictures has 1GB for free. There are lots of online storage services that use Amazon S3 services which are pretty cheap. Amazon S3 (write it yourself) charges 15 cents per GB of storage and JungleDisk, one of the consumer services based on it charges the same amount. The underlying services are based on massive redundant arrays in multiple datacenters so you only need to upload it once and it should be safe. So you can have 100 GB of storage for $15 a month. How much is spent on buying/renewing hard drives and media? One downside is if Amazon does titsup, the data could be lost, but that's fairly unlikey. So are free/paid services a viable alternative to local physical media? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  8. Exactly. Normally I'd lock this thread now. Everyone care to prove me wrong? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  9. No. When a thread is moved, a pointer is left, for everyone to see and follow. That pointer is now sitting at the top of page 2. i.e that pointer was on page 1 of this forum until unnecessary threads pushed it over on to page 2 today. It was just moved. But the pointer was left. If people only read this one forum but can't be bothered to scan all of the subjects on one page, the solution is not to put multiple posts about it. 10. It's in the rules. That should be enough. Having said that, imagine if everyone posted every post they made in every forum; it would ruin the structure of the site. You'd effectively have just one very nosiy forum. What if an FS jumper posted their picture and link to a competition in here? You think you'd like that? The post that is now in General started out here and was moved to General by me so that it would get a wider audience. If you'd hung around here enough your would have seen the link in here that indicated it had been moved. Please also see the bit about no griping at the bottom of the rules. 16. Hi RMK, I can't really speak on behalf of the BPA and I'm sorry if you feel that you've been treated that way but I doubt any direspect was intended. From my experience the BPA, who have done a lot of work with insurance companies, believe that there are very few underwriters when it comes to aviation insurance and quite often they are told about new brokers who may be able to help but in the end it comes down to the same few syndicates and rarely makes much difference. Having said that, I'm the Chairman of the Development sub-committee of the British Parachute Association and as such, Insurance comes under my remit. I would be very interested in the details that you could supply so that they may be investigated. Open to suggestions! Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  20. I was thinking about this last night, and I think that is Strong's opinion too. I haven't seen it but I believe that in their Side Spin video they recommend balling up with the student in order to get out of it for the same reasons that you give. I've never done a tandem from anything smaller than a Porter, so I admit I don't appreciate the difficulties of doing one from something like a 182 but falling on my back (stable or otherwise!) is not somewhere I really want to be with an inexperienced person on my front :-P Like you say, it's a bit unorthodox; I realise that the Vector manual is a bit old but that technique for exiting a Cessna is not in there Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  22. Yes, I'm an archer (of sorts, I don't fly knees down generally). I think arching on exit is especially important; the few times I've had trouble is generally when I haven't been arching enough (coupled with poor student position). I'm only Vector type rated, but from the pictures I've seen, it seems to me that the way the Strong systems fly seem to promote more of a knees down/straddle position? Also, it seems that in order to be able to fly knees down, that the laterals need to be looser? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
