  1. OP: Yes, stay away from "questionable" sources. If you want to do what I refer to as "pre-loading" concepts, your first step is to call the dropzone and talk to the person who will be your FJC Instructor. Ask that person what you can do in the meantime. If they want you to be a blank slate when you show up for the course, they will tell you to not read anything. Nobody here can help you. You have to be smart / safe for yourself. You can dig up bad information just as easily as good information and only experience (yours) or knowledge (your FJCI's) will tell you if it was good or bad. If you're taking that chance, you should at least know the seriousness of your wager. If you need to know the seriousness of your wager, I'd recommend reading any sport skydiving warning label or your dropzone's waiver. That's all you need to know going into the FJC. If you just need something to occupy you in the interim, spend your extra energy and time making sure that you are in good shape. It'll be fun, but baby steps keep the average mind chugging away throughout the process. Have fun. - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)
  2. Sounds like you picked a winner of a company.
  3. I used this on my last landing (flared a bit high): "Wait, wait, wait, keep it going straight, and...finish." From little Ella in manifest over the PA: "Go to bus! Go to bus! Go to bus! Go to bus! Go to bus!"
  4. If you use MS Office, try Excel. This was discussed sometime in the past 3 months though, so a search might help. - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)
  5. I still have my "shirt tail" (the entire back of my shirt) from when I was 19 years old after soloing at Dekalb-Peachtree. Talk about a tight traffic-filled environment for learning. 6. 1. Finish my A before I turn 40 2. Find some "big folks" like myself to jump with 3. Keep enjoying every jump 4. Learn, learn, learn & learn some more 5. Find some comfy gear to call my own 6. Make some good dropzone friends - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)
  7. 39...and I'm still 39. SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)
  8. If anyone wants to go the Wiley-X SG-1 route, just PM me. I've got a set of frames (two sets actually), two sets of arms, and the snap-in goggle strap. I'll part with them really cheaply (especially when compared to the price of those items new). You can just call SportRX and have them make up the pop-in lenses for your prescription and you're set. I think they charge $60 for the lenses. - David

    Is it acceptable

That's the only to go if you're playin' the butt-trumpet.
  10. See you there. SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)
  11. No soul? You must be in advertising. I'll be coming in early (relatively). Hans says jumping is from 9 to 2. My goal is to be on every load that I can. No more of this sleeping in the hangar during the day crap.
  12. Well, I don't play in a band...but I am a musician. Primary instrument is percussion, but I'm a bit of a freak. I don't like to play drumset. I played enough to pass my performance competencies and that was enough for me. I like hand-drums better.
  13. Are you going to be there New Year's Eve?
  14. And now I remember why I'm not a Hughes fan. The last good bet that I won was on darts. Playing against an IT worker in college, she had to cover a bet so she wagered her soul. I actually won this girl's soul...but then lost it to a guy at MIT later the same night. Ah well. I'll cover your debt to James...unless you want to play for your soul?
  15. Hi. Thanks for dropzone.com! I think it would be great to see sub-categories in the classifieds. Here is the idea. I'm looking for a new canopy in the 230-260 sq. ft. range. Currently I have to search through all of the posted canopies to find some that may match. It isn't a real big pain after doing it the first time, but it would be nice if items such as canopies had mandatory fields (area, etc.) that could be searched. Similarly, jumpsuits could have height and weight fields that could be searched against. Just a thought. Thanks again! - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)
  16. What time are things starting up (jumping-wise) on New Year's Eve? SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)
  17. Nice. I'm seriously envious.
