Just to let you know, PokerStars has their MacOS software in beta. It seems to work just fine. Game on.

Why? No hard drive and no optical drive. That just leaves the cpu, display backlighting, bluetooth, and wireless networking to suck battery. Reduce the cpu a little, dim the screen a little, de-activate bluetooth and networking, and you can probably get 5 hours.

I started skydiving in 2007 and simultaneously left a career that had gotten to the point where the negatives outweighed the positives, and I was just collecting a paycheck. I stepped into an unknown future, which is something that I had never done in my life. With a wife and 4 year-old daughter, it scared the crap out of me. I got lucky and found that my new career was something that I had been doing for years for fun. My relationships at home were in a pretty bad state due to me putting so much of my focus on my previous career. I just didn't have time to fix them back then. Am I better off today? In three months I surpassed what I was earning after 9 years in my former profession. I get to solve complex problems daily. I have the opportunity to learn constantly. I am actively encouraged to pursue a path to advancement. I have a positive effect on the experiences of millions of people every day globally. I can go home at 5:00 PM. I am going to have the opportunity to live a life that a public school teacher only has when they are born into money or marry wealthy. I can focus on my family, on my interests, and on myself. So, am I better off today? Yes. How's my life? It is getting better, but there are no guarantees.

It's snowing and the roads will soon be freezing over.

The first two might be more like an advanced level, but you know your kids best. "Human Cannonball": For a given trajectory and initial speed, calculate the altitude at which a "human cannonball" has the lowest airspeed. Then, calculate that airspeed. "Two Trains from Denver": Two "dummies" of equal size but different weight are dropped at the same time from a balloon at a given altitude (10K?) on a no-wind day. They maintain equal body orientation during freefall. After how many seconds will the first reach 2,500' and at what airspeed? How many seconds later will the second one reach 2,500' and at what airspeed? This one is a little more basic. "Mr. Bill": Calculate the wing-loading for one jumper under a canopy in pounds per square feet. Add another jumper to the first and calculate the wing-loading for two jumpers suspended below one canopy. Extension: Convert results to Kilograms per square meter. And a good middle of the road problem (basic vector calculations). "Mister Crabby": Holding a fixed orientation and airspeed under canopy, plot the ground-path for a given fixed windspeed and direction. Calculate the groundspeed. Have fun. - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

USPA - Jan Meyer Impeachment??
denete replied to Thanatos340's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Sorry but your post is not correct. Please check again with Scott and Sherry. . Sorry, I thought Scott was the "Member-at-Large" of the Executive Committee. The PDF of the agenda shows Scott as the creator. My mistakes, I guess. All I asked him for was the name of the person who asked that 8-A be added to the agenda. That was based on the PDF information. Good luck, I guess we'll know the answers soon enough. - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch) -
Makes sense that it would snow after Dave heads further south. It's following him.

USPA - Jan Meyer Impeachment??
denete replied to Thanatos340's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Scott Smith created the agenda, and he represents all USPA members regardless of locale. I e-mailed him (and Sherry) to ask who had requested that 8-A be put on the agenda, so that I could get more information and provide input to BOD members. USPA - Jan Meyer Impeachment??

This may be a silly question, but have any of you called Glen B. and asked why the impeachment is on the agenda? - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch) -
Oooooo, I didn't think of that. Fetus Rights and all. Ooooo..future parents might want to check their state's stance on that. Even the parents could be charged in some states maybe. Child endangerment? Neglect? I dunno. If you're going to go down that road, then the woman would have to have a tandem rating...and should be grounded for signing the fetus' waivers before age 16 in the US. Case closed. Asshat out.

Do wire transfer and bank drafts have any type of recourse in the event of non-delivery on the part of the seller? I would only agree to using those if you have the merchandise in hand. Go with a good escrow service. - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

Can't be any worse than the guy who calls himself "Shamrock".

That reminds me of a story about a guy from Iowa. he checked into a hotel for the first time in his life and went up to his room. Soon after, he called the front desk. he said, "You've given me a room with not exit. How am I supposed to leave my room?" The front desk says, "Sir you are mistaken. Have you even looked for the door?" This guy says, "Well, there's one door that leads to the bathroom, there's a second door that goes into the closet, and there's a door I haven't tried, but it has a 'Do Not Disturb' sign on it. you got that right. If they fuck up and the guy gets off with a "not guilty" they can't try him again, if I have it right. Something about double jeopardy. But that would mean he would be released from the watchful eye of police custody, and would be walking among those he hurt. I am glad that there is a suspect, and that things are being handled in a lawful manner. Justice might ease some pain. - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

Pregnancy or conception? If you don't find pictures, there's always finding someone with an awesome arch who'll look pregnant. I think there was an article in Parachutist early last Spring that was about jumping while pregnant. I'm sure someone here can point you toward that issue. - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

You would prefer a full face. Hmmmm... Has anyone tried a Bonehead Havok with the face shield removed? The profile of the shell is pretty similar to the Echo...albeit CF instead of glass. -
Debrief, debrief, debrief. Isn't that standard for AFFIs? I'm mildly curious if this was a "my-job's-over-when-you-deploy" kind of instructor.

Sounds like you picked a winner of a company. You are correct. He did. They are a brilliant company and very popular. Okay, then he needs to learn how to use a telephone. SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch) -
