Kick the crud out of your kids. It's not hard to use, you just gotta get more stick time on it. I'm seriously hoping for WiiSkydiving soon. With the controller setup of the Wii, and now the WiiBalanceBoard, it could be incredible. Time will tell. chest strap under canopy?
denete replied to rocketscientist's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I still use two hands to loosen mine. But, I do this with the brakes still stowed, so I've got a little more time (check traffic, rear-riser turn toward my first balloon, check altitude, do the housekeeping, check traffic / altitude / position, un-stow brakes, and fly the flight plan). It's a blast! I played for about 4 hours, and still suck at most tracks. Just figuring out the best cars/bikes is tough enough. Very cool though. Yeah, it's arcade-ish...but fun. Wii-tard! Here in the US (at least where I live), intersections that have red lights place them at the intersection. You can see them well in advance of arriving at the intersection. Yet, there are still people who drive through red lights. To make things worse, they have even been through a testing process to ensure that they know how to respond to red lights, and where to look for the red lights. So, you can try to idiot-proof things as much as you want. There are just going to be some people who are bigger idiots than you can anticipate. When they run through a red light (or get scammed in a scheme in the classifieds), they may have a negative experience by receiving a driving citation (or losing their Western Union wire-transferred money), and they will learn from their experience. Evolve. (In your next analogy, you might want to try the US welfare system.) SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

chest strap under canopy?

Are you familiar with the terms "Emperor's New Clothes" and "Placebo Effect"? I'm familiar with the "Elephant in the Living Room", and I've read "The Pachyderm and its Pilot". SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch) -

Find a Walmart and look in the electronics clearance section (near the TVs). I got a Griffin iTrip there for $30. I have the old-style iTrip (round) for my iPod, but I gave the new style (LCD display, stereo/mono, etc.) iTrip to my wife for her birthday. It works great. Because it is a synthesized transmitter, you can use any single-decimal station. Griffin has about 8 versions out now. http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itrip/ SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

chest strap under canopy?
denete replied to rocketscientist's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Is your buckle on the right side of your body? If it takes two hands to loosen the chest strap, wouldn't that put you into a left-hand turn...while you're looking down to your right? Sure, you're only looking down there for a second, but This whole thread brings up some good questions about "the routine" that happens once you've got a canopy overhead. I'm not going to say what I do (), but I am curious about what you old timers do. - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch) -

chest strap under canopy?
denete replied to rocketscientist's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Good idea. Thanks. So, there is the obvious benefit under canopy of flattening the canopy curve a little. But I was wondering if there might be another point to loosening the chest strap. During landing, wouldn't a loosened chest strap also allow you to lean forward and put your body weight over your feet as you swing out in front of the canopy while flaring? If so, can't you then "unload" the canopy as your feet touch the ground (woudn't letting them slide on the turf take a little weight off the harness, lighten the wing-loading, and prolong your forward progress)? It seems that with a tightened chest strap, the swing out in front is going to put you off balance with your body weight behind your feet. Anything that turns vertical energy into horizontal energy on landing seems like a good thing to me. There must be a negative side to this idea though. What is it? All Standard Disclaimers Apply (I'm not giving advice. I'm just asking questions about the potential benefits of this action. I always ask my instructors. I never try things that I'm not directly taught. Etc., etc.) - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch) -

Good fights. Thanks for hosting. Sorry i broke your house rules. I just realized that I pretty much talked through all the fights. Next time there will be bets...as long as I can change mine when the fighters walk into the octagon (cocky idiot Serra).

Hopefully your job doesn't define who you are. Many people work in order to allow themselves to do the things that they enjoy the most. For me it's a little like the movie Fight Club. I shaved off my goatee, wear my collared shirts, and work in order to get a paycheck and some personal rewards. But, I crank up the music in the car and sit in traffic a happier person because I have been in the sky. ps - I get paid to be a computer geek during the week. Nothing says hospitality like providing your guest honor some sweaty, hair pulling, teeth grinding, mind blowing sex. No wonder so many people stop by........ hahaha! Damn. Are you sure that you have to move at the end of the month? You certainly add a certain "flare" to the farm. (BTW, your rope-work is amazing. You should get someone up in the "hanging harness" and go to work on them. I'm sure you could find someone to do video for you.)
