  1. But did you see the "Roo Bounce"? Great amplitude in the undulations. SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)
  2. What is this "workahol" that you speak of? I have one other thing about my work ethic that I thought I'd mention, as I've noticed that it is slipping from the mainstream workforce. I try to constantly remind myself that I don't know enough about my area of expertise. I perpetuate the idea that I'm still not good enough to sit back and cruise through my career. I'm going to go find some Father's Day Chocohol now. SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)
  3. I got two nice drawings of myself with an airplane and a parachute from my 5 year-old daughter, Amelia. It is nice to be a Daddy sometimes. SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)
  4. At work I have two goals: 1. Do what is best for the company. 2. Do what is best for the customer. Then I have 3 fundamental principles that guide my work: 1. Yes, it IS possible. 2. Do whatever must be done in order to create a successful product. 3. Do things that make sense. Yep, I'm in the minority. 18. You do NOT yell "pilot shoot pilot shoot pilot shoot!" ...unless you just want to meet a real-life sky marshall.
  19. I second that. SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)
  20. SkyFest was great. I was, and am still, just trying to process it all. I know that J and James did so much more work than most people will ever realize, and I have the utmost respect for their vision and effort. I learned a ton at this event. Some of the dz.comers that met me may think that I'm a bit stand-off-ish. Well, I spent a lot of my time at SF trying to keep from wussing out and heading home. It turns out that Friday AM, my SCR attempt concluded with a very big "learning experience" for me. I am pretty embarrassed about it, but my doctor says that with time and a nice prescription for pain-killers, I'll get over the after-effects of my biffed landing. As a result, I'll probably preach certain "thou shalt not _____ on landing" commandments for the rest of my time in the sport. So, if you noticed that I spent most of my time just walking the vendor tents with a painful look on my face instead of skydiving, that's because sitting was not a pleasant option (driving 4 hours leaning over the center console was about as bad), and walking came in second place. Highlights for me were: meeting a ton of people, the repatriation of Delfina's rogue globe light, the stories that "older" folks shared, the great dz and dz staff, Dale's ice, digging into the cooler to find Gatorade on the bottom, receiving a scholarship from Chuting Star and the JSF, the free canopy control course with the PD guys, two sweet landings during the course, having one of the course's jumps provided in memory of Bob H., making my first Casa jump as a hop-n-pop, jumping without a jumpsuit for the first time (thanks to 100+ degrees in the shade), having Cyndi say how she was cold in the Casa (ha), meeting my PokerStars nemesis in person (sorry I never got to make that jump with you), thinking that I could make just one jump on Saturday and be alright, Jimmy's poetry reading, and leaving SF with the desire to have done so much more than I did...which drives me to be back next year without hesitation. If the focus was on education, mission accomplished! I certainly learned a lot. And, a few people learned how to pronounce my name...though I liked Perra's pronunciation the best. See you guys next year. (if any of this doesn't make sense, it's probably the meds...thank you hydrocodone) - David (ee-Net) SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)
  21. Yes. With avatars. SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)
  22. I'll second what kkeenan said. The ceremony didn't seem to be a glossed over version of what someone remembered that someone else said during their initiation. It really seemed to make an impression on the mags...until the pouring took over their senses. How about those mantles? Anyone build one? I wish I could have made it in. Next time though, no doubt. 24. FWIW, ASC may be in the process of changing their business name from "Atlanta Skydiving Center" to "Adventure Skydiving Center". I saw it on the lead-in of a tandem video shot recently and posted on youtube. They may be trying to squirrel their companies to protect their assets in preparation for an eventual judgment/settlement...but that's just blind speculation.
