For sashimi or any sushi with raw fish, I want to see the fish before the sushi is prepared. That's why I like "traditional" (ha) sushi bars and sitting at the bar. SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

That depends, Skydive Atlanta is maybe 3 or 4 times farther from I-20 than The Farm. If you're within 20 miles south of I-20 on the west side of Atlanta, you're closer to The Farm. If you are talking about I-20 at the Ga/Al state line. Thomaston is on a line roughly between LaGrange and Macon. That's a pretty good distance down from I-20 From Cumming, Georgia the Farm is 88.3 miles and Thomaston is 99.6 miles. It's a distance toss-up...a geographical oddity being two hours from everywhere. When I was in college there was this beer called Drewry's. It was the cheapest beer around, and you could return their bottles to get a deposit back. This was not too long ago (relatively), and I can only guess that they had a local brewery. Where else do they give you a break on the cost if you bring back an empty case? Cheap, nasty, and it gotcha drunk. SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

Seriously, it was fun. It was good to meet a lot of new folks and let them in on the Farm fun. And who the heck knew that Robin and Nadia lived less than 3 hours away! Annual event, check. Demon Seedless fruit. I do remember meeting "Loud Mel" though. I could still hear her the next day. Hey, who's this guy (in the attachment)? Wasn't he freeflying at the Farm? SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

No matter how little they are, or how sweet they are, or how innocently they bob up and down in the jar, NEVER look a mug full of "pineapple demons from hell" in the eyes and say, "Aw...what's a little fruit going to do to me? It's like a Del Monte fruit cup when I was a kid. Gimme another mug full." Never. Alright? I think I did meet some cool people that night though. And look at it carefully. I got a finger through a loop of brake line before unstowing the toggles once. I had looked at them when I put my hands into the toggles, but I didn't look carefully as my fingers curled around the toggles to pull them down. I had to bite the line to take tension off it, and then pull my gloved finger out of the loop. I'm still not 100% sure about the balance between the pros and cons of wearing gloves. Today, Tennessee State law says No to Skyride!
denete replied to Jumpdude's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I don't think it will be the end of Skyride, but if enforced, it'll at least thin their pockets a bit and hopefully force some truth into their damn websites... They'll just shut down their Tenn. operations, and set up somewhere else. It doesn't appear to keep them from running deceptive "Skydive-Murfreesboro/Chattanooga/Memphis" types of sites, unless they are a business (Skyride) operating in Tennessee. I hate to say it, but if they were really smart, they'd be running the "company" offshore. I'll have to agree. Having a temper-fueled response does no good, except to give you a moment of catharsis. Now that some time has passed, if it is still bothering you, I would suggest just telling the guy the truth. Remember, I don't know you or him. I don't know your working relationship. I don't know your work environment. I do, however, know how things like this can get stored away and turn people into three-headed monsters down the road. "Do you remember what you said about my dead friend and thinning the herd? Can you remind me of the comment that you made so that I don't misquote you? Okay, thanks for reminding me. That's how I remember it also. Do you think that was an appropriate comment to make to me? I'm going to go ahead and type it out to make sure that I don't forget what you said. I'll also include what you've just said about how you do/don't feel that this was appropriate, but you decided to say it anyhow. Would you mind signing it just to verify that this is how you chose to communicate with me regarding the tragic death of someone that I knew." Usually, people will start to backpedal and apologize around the time that they have to verbally repeat the phrase. For apologies, my response is usually something like this. "You don't have to be sorry. It's no problem. It just tells me more about the kind of person you are and you can't change that, so it's cool." I usually do all of this in the calmest possible manner. It either evokes some serious soul-searching for the other person, or sends them into a rage. Either way, things change for the better...for me. Your mileage may vary.
