  1. Similar story here, only I was 18 when I started.
  2. Broken rubber band can be easily removed in following way: Thread pullup cord under rubber band and pull sides of tape one at the time - fast. This will create a friction that will sew rubber band in half. This method is very effective. No need for knife, pliers, propane torch,...
  3. Totally badass! Be careful, man,... and as Ali G would say : restekpa
  4. What about reserve packing contenst ? Was it called rigger roddeo?
  5. I had a worse spinning malfunction. I was jumping springo 140. It was packed by me, same way as hundred jumps before. When I tossed PC, I looked up and 3 center cells were sniveling and canopy already had 7-8 twists. I was bringing risers together and scissoring my legs but very soon I was on my back (canopy was in stalling and spinning). I have to cutaway fast as I have Pdf reverse risers (they are hard to pull after force increases). I felt like reserve was opening in horizontal speeds as I had been sling shooed. After main was recovered I found that one line was pulled under twists. I suspect one line was snagged on velcro of factory diver. As container looks good (PdF Legend). I guess I'll never know.
  6. One thing to consider is riser length. As longer risers go more around reserve, so less slack is needed in the lines. So number in inches is not important, important is that bag can be lifted without lines snagging reserve.
  7. I think you can get ratios by measuring (A lines + riser length) : (C lines + riser length). I’ll use metric system as I am from Europe,.. For example if your A lines + risers = 400 cm long And your C lines + risers = 600 cm long 400 / 600 = 0,6666 ratio. This would be 66% of weight on front risers. If we take 5' (12 cm longer risers) Now we have 412 / 612 ratio = 0,673 witch is very similar to original ratio. So I think that this difference is hardly noticeable on any canopy. I did't experiment with high-performance canopy, I have jumped with Classic with shorter risers (and normal ones) and it is hard to tell if it is little slower on short risers,..
  8. Ok, I'll bite. How much does the angle of attack change if the risers go from 20" to 25"? Alternatively, how much does the force distribution change for such a change in riser length? Mark I agree change will be minimal. But if you go from 20" to 25" risers, canopy will fly slightly more steeply with more force on front lines. This is from eiff manual : Risers The angle of incidence of a canopy is set by the suspension geometry (we often call it the "line program") as measured from the bottom of the canopy, through the keel or flare, including lines, connector links and risers, down to the "node" point of the risers that is, to the point where the risers "split" into front and back risers, just above the 3 ring confluence wrap. The suspension geometry of the Classic is based on 16 inch (40 cm) risers, measured from the top of the riser to the top of the confluence wrap. If you use longer risers, the center of gravity will move forward. The canopy will fly more nose down, and will be more difficult to stop. If you use shorter risers, the center of gravity will move aft. The canopy will fly more nose up, stalling with less brake deflection. Risers are considered part of the harness, and are provided by your harness/container manufacturer. Therein lies a potential problem. If your system comes with very long (20") or very short (12") risers, your Classic will not fly as designed. The maximum variance from the 16" riser length figured into your Classic line program is plus or minus 2 inches (+/ 5cm).
  9. Riser length changes force distribution ratio between AB : CD lines ! For example if this ratio is 60:40 with 20 inch risers (60 percent of mass is on A&B lines) it will be different if you use 25 inch risers. Canopy will be more loaded on C&D lines than usual. Such canopy would fly less steeply. For example Eiff Classic specifies riser length for their canopies.
  10. This is all great. But what I don't like in Racers is the fact - quick loop forms a big eye (compared to normal cypres closing loop). And in freebag there is not tunnel of fabric, only 2 vertical tabs. And this big quick loop eye can teoreticaly catch some reserve fabric (or even vertical tab fabric) and cause freebag lock ! Reflexes also used quick loops, but they have tunnels of fabric in freebags.
  11. Another passenger with not properly adjusted harness!
  12. I did 1 jump with scuba diving mask for fun. Poant is after exit it is totaly fogged. So it was similar blind sensation, he he he,... It was 1000 meter jump, so only 5-6 sec of freefall,...
  13. Call Aerodyne they will be able to help you.
  14. I was told to look over my right shoulder to visualy check for drogue inflation, and this is what I always do. Such practise should eliminate bridle pull followed by golf ball pull,... Also during my TM training we did 1 jump when drouge was thrown on 3000 meters (jump was from 4000) to feel different speed when it is not inflated. It is hard not to notice that something is wrong no drogue scenario.
  15. You can use home - sewing machine for Dacron (it is wide enough). You can imitate bartack. Use zig-zag stitching on finer trapped part and E thread. Measure bartack width, step lenth and adjust sewing machine to copy that. It should be 5-7 stitches per inch. Don't use straight stitching because dacron streaches and it will break the thread.
  16. I don't want any patent rights or money from potential user/implementer of this idea. I just want to us to have more advanced gear on our backs. I personally think that this concept is good, and I would like to have it on my back someday. With this system you should be sure that you can cutaway from 600 ft in case of entanglement, as with skyhook you have 90 % chance to live from this situation. If any manufacturer decides to use this idea, I hope that I will get one harness/container for free
  17. Hi Riggers, Here is my MARD concept. Idea is to have break thread that decides if main will or will not attach to reserve bridle. Photos are in attachment. Prototype is old centaurus rig. I don't have a freebag for it, and many parts are built from wrong materials, as I don't have right tools and materials, but idea can be shown anyway. Regarding second hole on bridle that is used to break 20 kilo thread (knife should be used here look at picture option2.jpg), in case when reserve PC is doing deployment. In case there is a knife in second hole reserve PC has almost no additional force added. It is there in case of a bag lock, if it doesn't have enough force to break thread, once reseve PC lauches, bridle/knife must break thread - to release main. System should fail if force is over 200 kilos, because it will cause a line dump of reserve lines. Skylock hole, must be near center of reserve bridle, but it must not allow reserve PC to touch reserve lines. Also I would suggest "Staging loop" in case reserve is opened after main. System uses colins lanyard for dumping secondary riser. Please, share your questions and comments.
  18. No, it is other way around. You can't open main conteiner without throwing the drogue first,..
  19. After 4-year checkup there was no jumps ?
  20. Ha! We usually joke with this stuff. I am pretending like taking anti depresion pills before going into plane with my student. I know for a fact that sunlight is needed for production of vitamin D, and for well being. I can only suggest that you pack and breif outside on the sun and focus on positive things during day.
  21. Have you ever watched Bear Grylls man vs wild on Discovery channel ? He always destroys good canopy I come from country with lower standard, and I know how much skydivers work to pay for their rigs. When we watch Bear cutting canopy - we suffer and feel injustice. So we have to drown our sorrow in alcohol
  22. Do a search for Coriolis illusion and vertigo. Condition happens during spin on one axis and when you tilt your head down. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sensory_illusions_in_aviation Could you be expiriencing this ?
  23. Yes they are, but I am not talking about American company, I am talking about Slovenian company. http://www.basetroll.com/ They are close to me, not expensive, and I am very satisfied with Radical.
