Well, if you (or someone else) keeps saying that about every newbie who claims to be female, it'll indubitably be right eventually. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

I can see the 421, if you keep busy, but how did you manage to get only .81 of a hump? "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

Nope - we ignorant skydivers will simply make you buy beer for your "first prem-ear jump wot e'er der hell dat iz", and again for your proper first. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

The opinions on that are strangely divided. First, there's me saying "You'll drink whatever I'm buying and like it" and second there's everyone else asking for local brews, obscure stuff expensive beer, hard liquor or something called non-alcyhollic beaver-ages, whatever they are. So far I have never had any problems, probably because we got stuff on draught. Wish I HAD been there, Johan - I heard the stories. Besides, I've been dying to do a H&P at twelve with that Spectre and smoke it to three ASAP. I meant "canopies overtaking me on final" in my previous post, by the way. To get off newbie status asap, just buy a round of beer every week - experienced jumpers will know your face soon enough. But bring your friends anyway - that way you can bitch among each other about the skygods calling you newbies as well as gang up on the newbies when you become kygods yourselves Hint: To get off newbie status ASAP, prepare to buy a lot of beer. I demo'd a Storm 190 loaded at 1.1 this weekend. For someone of my experience (or lack thereof) it's an awesome ride. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

: 4 : 1 Made three hops on a rented Spectre 190 and had already made up my mind I'd buy it. Then I just HAD to go and demo a Storm 190, didn't I. Damn what a ride! (WL 1.1) Even though I only got one jump on it, I am seriously doubting which chute it's going to be.. OP, sorry for hijacking your thread so. Maybe if a moderator feels it's necessary, the "political" parts can be split off to a more appropriate forum. I have no problem with you saying that in English, though the thought is appreciated: [Quote] I think you should be honest to your potential customers; permanent altitude restrictions and long transit times are not normal in the skydiving world and should always be told to potential visitors Easy for me to say, I only jump in Germany, out of a caravan followed by a two minute walk to the packing mat As long as the final word isn't in on that altitude restriction (6k), I refuse to believe it's permanent. As you may have read on the KNVvL site, the letter giving notification of said altitude restriction, effective "end of March" was sent on March 26. The DZ management of the affected clubs are doing what they can to turn the tide, and the KNVvL has promised to help us too. And face it - as soon as the first DZs have been bullied away by Schiphol, the rest will follow soon enough. Even Texel and Teuge. It may take one year or three before The Letter is delivered, but I guess we have all seen how well LVNL and Schiphol keep their promises. You're right that long bus rides are not common in skydiving, but without knocking other DZs I can safely say that there are 'special circumstances' on all DZs in all countries; circumstances, that can easily be worked around I might add. For instance, weekdays we can jump on the airfield itself. And should you find yourself on the Student's DZ because you were needed to fill up a load, well - just bring a pull trough.. Just to clear up a slight misunderstanding here, the word "videot" is not an insult - it's a general term which refers to any camera flyer, regardless of skill or IQ *edited for layout - several times (I hate mondays)... I think the people from the "unimportant" DZs would beg to differ.. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

If you use the correct gear for either and have the appropriate skills necessary for landing in one piece I'd say swooping scares me more. Not only because you do it close to the ground, but you do it while other people are landing, people who might or might not have seen you - people who might react unpredictably. With CReW, at least you're high up, high enough to go to plan B should the shit hit the fan. Extra advantage is that the other people in your load will probably have already landed, leaving you with less hassle during your own landing. I'm not saying that I cannot handle flying in traffic, but the fewer canopies overtaking me from all sides, the happier I am

Welcome to Amsterdam, the promised city of opportunities. Seriously though, there are several dropzones within travelling distance of Amsterdam. I receommend you jsimply try them all out before selecting Hilversum "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

Wow. That's a very hard post to respond adequately to. Don't think too much about your roommate holing up - mine do this all the time. Sometimes one just needs their own space, a break from social situations. It doesn't necessarily mean he's avoiding you, especially since he's a trusted friend as you indicated. It doesn't even ncessarily mean something bad happened - sometimes you just want to be alone for a while. It's a shame that you're away for the weekend, but if on monday he directly goes to his room again, just knock and say you need to talk to him. Find out if there's anything wrong and if so, let them vent. Then make some small talk and when they feel at ease again tactfully bring up the money question. Is it possible to have sex with one person for the rest of your life?
Baksteen replied to tmanmike's topic in The Bonfire
Have sex with the same person for the rest of your life? Of course it's possible - just watch Basic Instinct. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom -
Under canopy at 3k with plenty of flying time left and the satisfaction of exercises gone better as expected. I say "excercises" rather than jump because the jump itself ain't over until you're packed and have called it a day. a bit late for this situation, but something to consider with future roommates: As my name is the only one on the lease for the house I live in, I am the only one responsible for paying the rent every month. Therefore I have all flatmates sign a standard lease contract when they rent a room from me. In addition to this I also have them pay a security deposit, which is refunded to them after they return the key and if everything is in order. Works for both parties - they have proof that they do not live with their parents anymore (which means they'll get a bigger student's grant) and I have some security against them trashing the place. Good luck! Yes, you said - the school is pressing charges. My original post in this thread was in no way directed against you but at a school who'd rather sue/press charges against their pupils than actually DO something about it (themselves). But aside from that there is a language barrier. The way your previous post was worded led me to understand there is a difference between "pressing charges" against someone and "sueing" someone. I was merely seeking clarification of the legal terms

Not others in general - only his. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

Forgive me, but I don't know the difference between sueing and pressing charges. As to bad parenting, my very own primary school bully fell off the swing once on a school trip, hitting the ground head first. Every adult in the vicinity jumped up but his mom merely looked round and said: "He's crying so it can't be serious." Small wonder that kid turned out the way he did . @Billy: After this same kid made my life completely miserable troughout primary and secondary school I graduated from college, found a job, made friends etc. When i was seventeen I publicly humiliated him when he tried to talk to me - he was acting all friendly and popular and with a smile put his right hand on my shoulder. I didn't respond, but merely turned my head to stare at his hand. I felt him tense and hesitantly remove it while going beet red. I moved my head again to look in front of me and completely ignored him while all his friends were laughing at him. Now it's ten years later and he was recently in the newspaper for stealing the clothes people had collected for charity, in order to sell them on as second hand. In addition, he's been turned out of his house and is now living with his loving mother. All his friends have abandoned him, since they have matured and he hasn't. Seems the tables are turned. Sweet 'revenge' indeed. Way sweeter than any violence could have been. S/L to Freefall Status - Some Lessons Learned
Baksteen replied to Gato's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Great job on the first, mate -
It's neither good, nor bad. I'm not necessarily hitting on them - believe it or not but I'm not into casual sex much. Like I said, usually those are girls chance met at some neutral occasion, like during a long journey by train. The way the SO is worked into the conversation is sometimes quite entertaining .
