  1. I tried it once. I was young. Took one drag waited a while and decided that if I wanted to be dizzy I'd do a few pirouettes. That is a lot cheaper and another plus is that a pirhouette doesn't give you that awful burning sensation in your respiratory tract. Besides, feeling dizzy/lightheaded is scary for me. My opinion: Do whatever you like, but NOT before you jump. Drugs and alcohol should not be combined with skydiving, no matter how people claim they can handle it. 2. That sounds a lot different from "you did this well, continue to do this - it looked really good, but you failed the level because did this and this not right, so let's go up and do it again" -"Oh.." "No big deal, you made good progress though and we allow do overs" Your approach is a positive one, the one in my example places the accent on what they did wrong. I may be no instructor, but some things carry over quite nicely from other fields
  3. Booty is more important - but as(s) a musician i'm not a 'fan' of women who can only sing in A-flat. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

  11. Hi, You made a small typo which I took the liberty of correcting.
  12. Great story! However, I really have a problem with terms like "dope-rope". The first few jumps are intimidating enough for students without them getting the idea that the level their at makes them putzes. Another danger is that it might encourage the student to want too much too fast - they don't want to be uncool anymore. Also, did you guys consider that the "built in turn" could have been an off-heading opening? That the first thing that came to my mind when I read the story. In the second jump, did the instructor on the spot check the students altimeter? If it did point at 0, did they verify it by sending it up with a pilot/instructor? Of course it's easy for me tp second-guess peoples decisions from the comfortable position of a keyboard..
  13. I'd hate to see Virgin-Burner (banned)... I'd have noone to be nasty to. No, that.. whatsisname.. Gonzales-something or other.. that guy really gets on my nerves. Begone, oh foul fiend No, let's ban Skymama "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

  15. It also implies that this search generates only eight times as many responses than boobies.... The boobies are taking over the world - it's a conspiracy I tell you!!!!! 16. A student had 55 jumps and got on the plane after a very short night. His tiredness definitely contributed to the fact that he couldn't locate his ripcord at pull time (3k) so the student executed a (full) reserve porcedure after a second try to find his ripcord. But having nothing out this took "a while" so the student was under canopy and reaching for his reserve toggles at 1000 feet - he DID pull the reserve ripcord himself, but his FXC also fired. The student was unable to make it back to the DZ and landed in a ditch, badly spraining his ankle. They gave him an official reprimand in his logbook and an extensive debrief. That student is now training for his coach rating. Just saying. As for your post, I wasn't there and I'm not an instructor - but a student just off radio making such a mistake and immediately getting the bowling speech? He must've shown some promise, or he'd stuill be on radio, right? Could you please elaborate why you chose to take this course of action? There must be more to the scenario than you described. Not flaming, looking to learn. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  17. I agree that a post which entire contents are "do a search" just doesn't cut it - when aimed at newbies. They just don't know any better. In addition to that, suppose I'm a curious guy and want to find out what really happened on Lutz's jump: scott lutz Well, good luck with that scott lutz what really happened Oh. Let's try again lutz what happened there's my info - a post by NickDG
  18. A co-worker asked me yesterday whether it wasn't too cold to jump this time a year (it's around 0 C around here at the moment). Perfectly valid question - so I explained that a lot of Dutch skydivers 'hibernate' in winter, but that even though it can get really cold at altitude you can dress for succes and keep jumping. He then proceeded to ask me whether all that extra clothing wouldn't make me too heavy so that I would descend too rapidly under my parachute. I explained that since I weigh in at around ninety kilograms, so an extra coat would not be that much of a difference. Somewhat in his defence, though, the guy is from Curacao - I hear they are wearing winter clothes there when its 21 C outside. 20. Hi, It's official, my boss just gave me his blessing to head out to Perris in April! I'm a belly flyer with 200 jumps, but very limited RW experience and looking to improve. So I'm looking for some people to split coaching/video fees with in one of the two weeks that I'll be there. We're talking about maybe ten, twenty jumps or any other reasonable amount.
  21. 1) to make sure the equipment isn't jumped, as it is not skyworthy 2) The parts might be used for spares, decoration, collections etc. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
