  2. What's the importance of standing up landings? "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  3. A PLF landing can be just as soft as a stand up landing,.... I agree. Sometimes a PLF landing is a lot softer on you than a standup would have been. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  4. So you're this 'Walt'-guy I heard so much about? "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

  10. An American citizen isn't allowed to display the American flag in America because it's a Mexican holiday? Some people take this PC-BS way too seriously. And here's me thinking we Dutch are crazy "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  11. The Dutch have a saying: "als een baksteen naar beneden vallen" (to fall like a brick). I needed a username for my DZ's forum and baksteen seemed as good a name as any - especially since I hadn't made my first jump yet. However, that username kind of backfired when people started to think that was my actual last name. So on the Dutch forums I've changed it to "brick", while on the international one I'm still unknown as "baksteen"
  12. Me too... video over here No idea why or how that got 20k views; those exits aren't *that* bad... I'm the second one out. As I push off all my instincts scream I'm about to die and I close my eyes in terror. Next thing I know I get this 'slam' kind of experience and I open my eyes in surprise to look up at a parachute. I remember belatedly thinking: "ah... Yes.. eh.. 1001 1002 1003 parachute checklist." Then I noticed some linetwists and laughed. Of course - happens to *me* on my first jump! I kicked out of the twists and nicely landed my canopy on the DZ, even if I flared at what looked like 20 meters.... After struggling an eternity to pack that Manta, manifest calls two slots remaining on the next load. My FJC buddy Bas and I exchange a glance and manifest again. Second jump I did remember the exit count, but got totally confused with the new landing pattern (the winds probably had changed, I can't remember) I flew a less-than-textbook approach and landed crosswind. Unfortunately I have since lost sight of Bas, who gave up skydiving, but I got the bug... 13. Yes. And I *hate* the bowling speech. But if someone tries to pump the slider up until they are at 1k and then cut away (thank you RSL) without taking any further action, ending in a downwind no-flare landing I quickly run out of options.... This particular student was not able to jump immediately after their FJC for whatever reasons, and apparently never thought of skydiving again until showing up at the DZ a few weeks later. I might add the student in question never realised the gravity of the situation, despite me and a full instructor trying mulitple times - first in person and later via email after the student had been sent away. They just kept insisting they 'followed the procedures the exact way they were taught' and placed blame on everyone but themselves. But if anyone has any suggestions about a different approach, I'm all ears
  14. : 3 : 0 3 Lots of laughter, few points turned. First an almost-fourway, followed by a nice threeway with four points from 6k and lastly a jump in honour of someones 100th. They wanted to do a naked jump and I was very disappointed that they wouldn't let me spot for them. because I was conned into doing my first demo. 15. Making way too much money. Usually this begets some bullshit "but a presidency costs a lot of money too"-argument, but way I see it, keep the royalty but cut WAY the fuck back on their pocket money. 16. dont tell me it's NOT you! Wait... It isn't you? When i opened the link I thought you were just showing off because you finally almost nearly got kind of laid... 17. : 3 : 0 *Landed my canopy and since I was the last one down I kited my canopy and ran towards the first-jump staticliner I'd just dropped in order to give him a congratulatory gift wrap.
  18. Aw hell; I'll give it a go. Other Dutch jumpers, feel free to correct me. Translated from the Royal Dutch Aeronautical Association (RDAA) regulations: 1) Yes. BUt the regulations are not very clear on what document is considered appropriate. 2) a valid skydiving licence, recognised by the (foreign equivalent of) the RDAA. Students are a special case; I wouldn't know the official policy. Dutch students get an oefenvergunning" ("permit to practice") after completing their FJC, which in this context also counts as a 'licence'. 3) [I don't understand] 4) Reserves must be repacked by a Dutch senior or Master rigger or foreign equivalent, as per the manufacturers guidelines. A 'rigger seal' is mandatory, except if if the reserve is packed by a rigger from a country were sealing is not permitted. A packing card including serial#must be shown. 4a) Repacks are 6 months. I don't know about longer nor shorter cycles in other counries. 5) AAD+serial+maintainance is described on a logcard. 6) Main: serial is described on a logcard, but no inspection cycles are recorded. 7+8) H/C are decribed on a logcard. Serial needed. Gear used by foreign jumpers is evaluated for airworthiness (sp?) by an instructor/rigger. Note: this includes whether or not the I/R thinks the jumper should actually be jumping that canopy. 9) Responsible for airworthiness: ultimately, the owner. Other papers: - a logbook - a membership certificate of the Royal Dutch Aeronautical association (or a foreign equivalent). 22. It's C-licence over here - a national rule, but I don't have a problem with it. I guess it all depends on what you're used to.
  23. I decided that the benefits of having an AAD outweigh the disadvantages of not having one. In order to limit the disadvantages of having one as much as I can, I had better understand the limits of what the device which I chose to buy can do for me. That includes discussing and knowing/learning about(minimum) activation altitude, activation parameters, local circumstances such as a significant difference in LZ altitude and take-off altitude etc, etc, etc. Happy now?
