  1. Giving a new example of the exact same thing (experienced people doing stupid shit) doesn't suddenly make it a good idea when a TI and a whuffo-PAX do stupid shit. 2. My girlfriend and I moved in together this year. So what better gift than six plates (from person A), and two coffee mugs and two identical tea pots (from person B)? 3. Generally speaking, as long as the owner is aware of the AAD's firing parameters and the associated do's and dont's (like Gary stated above) I see no problem with keeping it in Student mode. However, "DZ staff telling a jumper to keep his AAD in student mode "because the jumper is new to the DZ" makes no sense to me. 4. Got my A at 91 jumps, B and C nearly simultaneously at ~300 jumps. Jump numbers aren't important. Having fun is.
  5. You know, you should do your laundry way before you are able to stand it upright. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  6. Sounds like a common douche who shouldn't be under a stiletto
  7. Sounds familiar... Except we noticed the problem when we returned from a week's holidays. The smell was quite... unique. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  8. I've got a feeling I've seen this before. The lighting, the poses.... It may sound a little cliche, but it's a sort of post-new figuration so to speak. I mean, if it had had a little more... I don't know, claire-obscure contrast it would have held more appeal for me. Coffee, anyone? 9. No, not "technically speaking" It's "reality legally" speaking and "experience" speaking. Fixed it for you Can't even call them "damm l*wyers" or they'll sue the ass of you... 10. C'mon guys.. Cut it out. We all got the student's best interests at heart. Now kiss and make up. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  11. I think it's a great attempt at describing the events in a way the media understand. It's all too easy to get lost in skydiverspeak and get Lutz-coverage :-) "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  12. Only once did someone flat out refuse to give me a gear check. They argued that they hadn't ever done a gear check and didn't know what to check. My offer of practicing together was refused in a similar manner. This jumper has over five hundred jumps and a C-licence. Scary. 13. No it's not. He's Dutch. And if the British can talk about RAPS instead of whatever the hell the American term is, WE are allowed to talk about our reserve procedures. OP, as you haven't filled out your profile, I'm assuming you haven't got a lot of experience. Hence, I agree with Surfgrl1. Do not rehearse different reserve procedures for different scenarios. Stick to what you're taught - it offers the most chance of getting down alive. Yadda yadda internet advice blah blah root of all evil. So at the very least consult an instructor who knows a lot about this kind of thing - face to face, that is. 15. Well, at least it's a more original reason than the usual "no money/no time/ OMFG you're gonna die"-stuff you usually get. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  16. Well, there is ALWAYS a risk to persons/property on the ground and air traffic... Should we only do jumps over no-fly-zones, where there is no people/buildings/vehicles allowed anywhere near the LZ? That's what ATC in the Netherlands is slowly steering at, except they prefer that there would be simply no skydiving at all. 17. I never understood this line of thinking. Why take your chances with a canopy you know isn't good while you have a second canopy which is packed by a professional and which probably will be perfectly fine? This isn't directed at the OP personally - they walked away so they made the right choice. It's just that I'm a firm believer in the saying "when in doubt, whip it out". 18. Well, you got your own gear - but what if you hadn't? Would you have had to pay equipment rental for that plane ride? "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  19. A 170 Spectre does not fly the way a 170 Storm does. The Storm is more of a high performance canopy. Since you jump a Sabre2 190, a Storm 190 will still dive and turn faster. If I were you, I'd go with a Spectre 170 instead. You'll leave more of a margin for error if you fuck up a little. JMO Long answer: I fly a Storm 190 and have demoed a Spectre 190 for about twenty jumps. The Storm turns and dives a lot faster than a Spectre 190, but on the other hand, it is very well behaved in serious line twists, (rear riser) stalls etc. Openings are comfortably slow but a little shorter than a Spectre. OTOH, a brake fire during opening will start you spinning very quickly - but for me it did not result in line twists. The canopy is still rather forgiving; last week I fucked up during the landing (the low panic turn I vowed never to make) but I'm still walking. All in all I'd say the storm is an excellent all round canopy. Perhaps the OP might even find a lot of satisfaction in a storm 190, removing the necessity to downsize and increasing the margin for error even more. Short answer: Demo demo demo... 21. Came down with some bug past monday and I'm still recovering. On the plus side, I did lose ten pounds in a single week. I hear many people would pay good money for a similar result. 24. I agree with what you say, but wouldn't you be in the same legal position if a student was to land in a tree *despite* radio instruction? They could always blame you for "giving incompetent instruction", even if they were simply not reacting to the radio. Their word against that of the DZ.
