  1. Finally, a legitimate reason not to pack after the last load! Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  2. You have 3 hurdles to overcome: 1) Getting them to give you the opportunity... 2) Accuracy / effeciency to what they want... 3) the hardware and software to support their needs... I'd find some local engineering firms, architectural firms, power companies, etc... and speak with them about picking up their EC work for either doing, or checking it. It's typically boring and droll, but it still has to be done and it allows their staff to do actually do the design stuff. Get your foot in the door and show them you deliver on their needs and your gold. This being said... effectively communicating with the company while working at home will be a PIA. There's a million little details that will have to be worked and you will need to really organized to effectively communicate with the company on their schedule. Good luck....
  3. So I'm a fucker eh? Nice PA. Mods? Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  4. This is not a mens only problem.... I distinctely remember catching a lass 'adjusting' herself while gearing up one day. When she caught me looking, I asked her if she was having issues. With a gleam in her eye she said something to the effect that it hurts like hell when her hardware catches, thus the adjustments.
  5. Excellant... an informative response based on facts and not just the opinions of others. Ok... I'll admit to baiting you a bit, since I interpreted your initial response as rather flippant and while the reasons may be obvious to you, they could easily be lost on someone else. Thanks much for an informative post.... If we ever meet up, the first is on me. And btw... there's a Vigil II sitting in my rig.
  6. ...care to elaborate? By what measure would it be "obvious" and why? Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  7. I'd venture to say yes, depending on the size/WL you wind up with... and you have the added advantage of having a CRW friendly canopy if you ever desire to dabble on the dark side... Disregarding the whole "not knowing what dicipline you'll follow" or the "downsizing in a few hundred jumps and getting enuff on the resale to buy another canopy" arguments... I think you should def buy one! In fact, get two if you can afford it... Preferable Blue ones, with orange and white thrown in. Oh, and make sure you get the CRW set-up too... And when your ready to downsize, just let me know. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  8. Around these parts, Western Central NC, they sell this crap that they call BBQ... is a bunch of nasty-assed, vinegar-based watered down drivil that I swear is unfit for most human consumption. No, seriously... it's tastes like crap. AND THEY KNOW IT! ... why else would they serve it under a heaping pile of coleslaw? This being said... most folks around these parts are kinda biased towards it, to the point of being proud. and they even came up with their own name for it: Carolina BBQ. 9. I had a rigger mis-route my reserve rip-cord in such a way that I would of had a hard, if not impossible pull... I never jumped the rig, as it was immediately grounded by another rigger upon my arrival at a new dz. At the time, this "rigger" was also being investigated for pencil packing reserves and was busted by the FAA for doing so. While I don't think my issue caused his ticket to be revoked, I'm confident that it sealed his fate. That lying, lazy, thieving POSMF will never again endanger the life of a skydiver through rigging ever again. ** The lesson that I re-learned that day is that while riggers are human and thus do make mistakes... not all riggers are equal and there are riggers out there that shouldn't be riggers. If you got your ticket to earn some cash or to offset your jumping costs, than shame on you! Your not doing anyone a favor and sooner or later your going to have to live with the consequences of your actions. If you want my business, earn my trust. We (skydivers) trust you (riggers) with our lives... Buzz and Mur: Again, I thank you for your actions and professionalism and I consider both them and you a credit to the Rigging community. You both have a 'save' in my book! ** Yes Mods, I know it was a PA. Spank me if you must but please... be gentle. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  10. Ralffers, Continuing education can't hurt.... I finally went back to school and completed a BS degree via online. Damn glad I did, and starting to regret not continuing for my MS actually.... but that's another story. Anyways,... Make sure that you carefully look at the schools accredidation. I went via Univ of Phoenix online and haven't had any issues with it's accrediation, although I haven't tried to transfer and credits to a typical brick and mortar institution. Online classes are all about teamwork. You'll have your individual work, but also team projects to complete. Most of the time it's cool, but occassionally you'll have one asshat who won't complete their tasks forcing more work on you. Kind of like real life in that regard.... Anyway, study your ass off and it's totally doable. Grats on your decision. I'm currently reaping the benefits of the same decision by virtue of recently getting a promotion and $$$... now all I need to do is find more time to jump. 13. How stable are the companies? Not including the money factor, which employer offers the best benefits, work environment, perks, and stability? Money isn't everything... especially if you find yourself working someplace that you hate because of one reason or another. This being said... there's a couple of important questions you have to ask yourself: Which is closest to the DZ you want to jump at? Which would be more agreeable to you taking a long lunch to squeeze in a load or two? I don't see it as unethical at all. Your looking out for numero uno... Afterall, nobody else will. Handle yourself professionally and it shouldn't bite you in the ass later on... Take the advice from the previous posters and you'll be fine... 2x the pay and less housing expenses... having trouble figuring out what the problem is. 14. I agree with the gear coming un-assembled, as I would certainly prefer to pick the riggers I have work for me. I learned a long time ago that not everyone who carries a riggers ticket should be a rigger (and there are those who should be but don't btw). This sentiment was re-inforced when I purchased all new gear a couple of years ago. The guy who assembled my rig and packed up the reserve gave me a "minimum" of a hard pull on the reserve if not a total. I'd rather pay the money to whom I trust than a faceless wonder somewhere. 15. I remember that... and as I recall the 'authorities' were none too happy about it and some pretty hefty "penalties" insued for those involved. I remember thinking that they got royally hosed when the shit hit the fan and wound up paying a very, very heavy price for that log book entry. But man... I'd love to have that one in MY log book. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  16. How about keeping your eyes peeled on the newbies and granting them the alti as a reward for 'paying it forward' themselves.... like when they help someone out, pitch in and help around the dz, or somehow go above and beyond. Just an idea.... Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  17. ...can't help but wonder what the eq manufactures would have to say about it. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  18. Not necessarily, I've made several dives wearing flip-flops (without a tow-stow) and deck shoessand not lost them... so I find it hard to believe that its a certainty that he lost his loafers... YMMV I've had one of these... stood up a 26' Phantom barefooted on a cut-away once upon a time. It's possible... I was 20-something, in great shape, and damn near immortal at the time though... Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  19. uh oh... a new Jeb post. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  20. I've been sitting here a minute trying to figure out how to work 'deaf, dumb, and blind' into this and I just can't without it sounding like a PA.... anyway, I'd agree with you run with it.
