  1. I'm not disabled, but way back in the early 80's, my dad, two brothers and I were all skydiving at point or another. What makes this cool is that my dad was 100% disabled with his R leg missing from his waist down. He finally wound up using a scuba flipper on his only foot to compensate for the inherant r-hand turn... Anyway, he started skydiving after his disability, but went on to earn his D-9053, SCS, SCR, Falcons, Eagle, and Pro #90 - All with NO waivers whatsoever (meaning he did everything to the same criteria as everyone else whether RW or Accuracy). That was in the 80's: there were no such things as wind tunnels, but we did use paper dolls and a ladder on more than one occassion while brainstorming his stability issues... he started on a Paracommander, which meant he became very proficient at a PLFs (sometimes more of a banana-splat kind of thingy) but he did wind up on a 375 sq ft canopy for a main and a Raven 4 reserve. His accuracy was excellant, and he did in fact stand up the vast majority of his landings very close to where his crutches were mind you, for obvious reasons. I'd say your friend has zero excuses! Bear in mind that I am not an instructor... but I suspect there's shouldn't be any concerns RW wise, once he learns to fly HIS body, to include tracking. Canopy piloting will be a little more critical, but only in terms of a 'feet and knees together and pound in' kind of landing where 2 legs are stronger than 1 leg kinda thing applies. He'll always be at a disadvantage there, but its prolly best for everybody to avoid those situations though. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  2. Another option would be to buy some tunnel time. It's something the two of you could share, and he could get some great coaching.
  3. It's a good idea not to let em rip, and for more than just one reason. I knew a jump pilot who would eat boiled / deviled eggs on Sat nites, just to return the favor! Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...

    Disney World...

I totally concur w/the previous suggestion of waiting until your kids are older. They really won't remember it.... I waited and took my two this last Xmas, at 9 and 11. It was money well spent! Having said this, I'd suggest the Magic Kingdom. It's really geared towards the younger crowd (Princesses, the Castle, parades, characters, rides...). I'd also suggest staying IN the park to take advantage of the extended hours (before and after gen public). Fast track passes == DEF Worth it! Think divide and conquer... as early as you can, go stand in line w/the kids and have your hubby go get fast passes. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  5. Lets not try and get technical about it. Especially when concerning up and coming skydivers, an actual instructor is intended IMHO. Do you think that just maybe (work with me here), there is a reason for this? I don't intend to take anything away from coaches, but they are NOT equals to instructors. 8. Good replies so far, but there's 1 thingy I haven't seen mentioned, which is.... really, what do you want to do with your canopy? Even if you haven't decided, it's something to think about. Does CRW interest you at all, even if you haven't tried it? Most seem to suggest 9-cells as if that's your only choice, or that you will naturally want to toe-surf or sumtin.... Just something to think about. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  9. It's today... don't forget... it's not too late either. On a side note, I can't believe Billy hasn't mentioned it. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  10. Absolutely F'n NOT! To start with, I personally feel that random drug tests are an invasion of privacy. Granted, there are numerous professions where being subjected to a random DT would be reasonable (commercial pilots, police, EVERBODY in politics, etc.), but for the population as a whole then I don't think so. Given a valid reason for a DT, such as a workplace or auto accident, then certainly. What people do on their own time, providing that no harm comes to others, is really nobody elses business. To randomly piss those who are layed off due to no fault of their own, soley to stretch the $$$ in the state's coffers is quite frankly, absurd. but like most every other topic that erodes the basic fabric of the Good Ol USofA and our personal rights, ...well, we all know what will happen next. 11. As far as your question goes... no matter what responses you get, you just won't understand until you yourself have jumped. It's kinda like describing sex to a virgin... they can read all the books, watch all the movies, bs their friends and hopefuls till they're blue in the face... but they just don't know what it's like till they actually get laid. Now go schedule a Tandem, jump, and then come back and give us your answers to these questions.
  12. Prior to my first jump, I didn't really know what to expect, I just knew it was something I wanted to do. I do however remember, as I was standing on the strut of a worn-out 182 with the jumpmaster holding my static line yelling 'Go!'... thinking to myself; "What the fuck am I doing hanging on the outside of this airplane at 3000' ????" . My Second jump however, scared the living shit out of me, because I had a much better idea of what to expect. I was very nervous, and for the first time in my life I manned up and faced my fear. I grew 3 whole sizes that day. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...

  17. Not that I've ever done these mind you, nor do I condone the following: 1. Hunters scent mask: Typically comes in 2 bottles that you mix together... a squirt of each INTO their car door (where the window rolls down) does the trick. 2. Multiple (as in as many as you can muster) subscriptions to hard core gay porno and drug related magazines in their name delivered to their work address. 3. Be kind and submit a change of address for them at the post office. 4. A cup of water poured into their work chair seat at the end of the day generally results in a bit of fun first thing the next morning. 5. Call a towing company and have their car towed And the list goes on and on and on... Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  18. Sounds kinda redneck-ish to me. I would certainly NOT even try this. Think about it.... road vibration + stretchy nylon rope = a lost bike + all possible reprocussions of said bike tumbling down the highway causing a mini-van full of toddlers to die a horrible and fiery death in the resulting roll over accident... At the very least, I'd bet you don't get 30 miles down the road before Leo notices (I'm pretty sure there's multiple law infractions involved, all of which were put into place to protect the general public from "things like this"). You'd be better off getting someone to drive your car down while you drive the bike, or just leave the damn bike there and go back for it at a later date. This being said, the easiest solution would be to sell your rig and use the money to rent a small u-haul truck that you can put the bike in and pull the car with. 23. 3500'+ sq ft... 3bd/3bth... 2 kids... Does ALL of the laundry, cleaning, and cooking, as well as running the kids whereever the hell the need to be that day. Costs... only a 3500' 3/3 house, a new minivan, an updated wardrobe, various shiny rock and metal thingies, and a seemingly endless spending account. My last payment was a 47" HD. And the kicker is, I can't afford to NOT use her anymore. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
