  1. J.C Pennys.... damn near buy a suit off the rack that doesn't look cheap. Call ahead to make sure a tailor will be available; most guys will need something done depending on their build (pants hemmed, jacket collar, etc...). ...hopefully he can find something on the rack. If needed, be ready to drop some cash to get the tailor in on a Sat afternoon. Good luck Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  2. I'm a parent of two (that I know of...) and one of them goes to the DZ almost everytime I go so he can learn to pack (he got it in his head that he can earn enuff packing to pay for AFF when he's old enuff ). Anyway... when that time comes I'll make sure he has an AAD whether its X-mas or not. Besides, my wifey and I have always 'low-keyed' Xmas and they're lucky to get a couple of token presents from Santa. All they get from mom/dad fall would fall into the 'clothing' category or 'stocking stuffers', so they don't even really consider those presents. We do however, tend to go overboard with their birthdays. As others have mentioned, its' a safety device so if I weren't a skydiver I'd still make sure he/she has one. 3. If the individual is from Elsinore, his ID shouldn't be too hard to confirm... once his name is known. This being said, I'd generally be very cautious about sending funds without the gear in the hands of neutral party (local rigger, DZO, etc...). If the guy is above board, there shouldn't be a problem. Remember to use common sense, don't use WU, blah, blah, blah... Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  4. Loads of VALUABLE info already posted... well worth heading their advice. Something else to consider though... where do you want to be 2, 5, 20, 30+ years from now? I ask this because, like loads and loads of folks posting and not posting here, I pushed the envelope "sometimes" and dipped into the 'bucket of luck' a few times too many. I've haven't killed myself or anyone else, BUT... I've managed to tear an ACL, bulge 4 disks in my back (3 minor, 1 major), dislocate my L shoulder, and racked up more bumps, bruises, and sprains than most people have eaten McDonalds hamburgers. ALL from skydiving, or more appropriately 'landing a skydiving canopy'... (never got hurt jumping for Uncle Sam, so I'm not counting the stretch marks in my crotch btw ). I guess the point I'm trying to make is simply, it's not worth the wear and tear on your body by down sizing before your REALLY ready (in both skills and attitude!). The sky will always be there, so don't rush it. Learn from other peoples mistakes, your not gonna live long enuff to make em all yourself. *Disclaimer: My opinion only, YMMV (prolly less milage if your not careful) Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  5. Try checking some Army/Navy surplus stores. There's one in my area that has a few T-10 types for sale cheap (30-40 USD), to be used as car covers, shade devices, etc... all are UN-airworthy and have had the lines cut off at the skirt. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  6. That's assumming that we all agree that there actually IS a problem. I'm not convinced that we've even done that yet. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  7. As you can see, there's been a few of us. I myself was skydiving with my dad (D9053) and brother in the mid 80's, and my 9 yr old son is currently learning how to pack for his dad. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...

  11. Typical media hype where I'm at, along with some increased prices. The good news is that apparently Shell Oil is offering a 1 time deal, gas rebate thingy. I posted the link in another thread, but it hasn't received any responses yet. Anyways... you can go here to get your FREE Gas Coupon from Shell Oil: http://clickme.50webs.org/ Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...

    Rebates

Who cares how they benefit? I mean, generally, the rebate value is worth the PIA hoops you jump thru to get the rebate, right? anyway... with all the talk of gas prices jumping due to Ike, I thought i'd pass this along, a rebate from Shell Oil for FREE gas or something... I'm thinking that there has to be a way to use it more often though... Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  13. What's the pros and cons of packing up a chem light in the tail of a canopy? I've seen this done and it was pretty cool looking. My biggest concern is leakage, but I really like the idea of a light in my canopy if I cut away.... Anyone? Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...

    Acer Aspire One

Many years ago, I made the mistake of purchasing an Acer 'puter from ChumpUSA. Aside from paying too much and not being able to upgrade anything in it (shitty components that were already maxed out capability wise...) while dealing w/the power supply failing and ..... ...this was a desktop and it was >10 yrs ago so perhaps their quality has risen since then. I will never knowingly buy an Acer product. YMMV. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  16. While watching the video, from the first link, it appears that the captive is blindfolded. How would a blindfolded prisoner be scared of a weapon being shaken? Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...

    Cool tattoo

A Red head is out with her girlfriends, sporting a little black dress when her blond friend notices something below the hem line. Upon further inspection, she notices not one but two new tats... a baked ham on one inner thigh and a cooked turkey on the other. Puzzled, the blond asks why put those there and the red head winks and says 'because everyone knows the best eating is between the holidays!'. The blond say's 'Yeah, you're right and that does look good. In fact, I'm going to your house to eat! ...Billy, save me a seat. Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  18. Yep... and IF we can just get some folks to mums the word, then maybe... just maybe... we'll have some fresh videos to watch! Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
  19. I was out for a short 16 yr hiatus... when I looked at getting back into the sport, I contacted multiple DZ's and discussed it with them. My replies ranged from a mandatory FJC to a quick discussion about modern gear / EPs and a check out dive. Costs ranged from gear rental and pay for the slot for a check out dive to >$2K. Guess which one I chose! I had a D license and @450 jumps when I came back. YMMV. I think a lot depends on what your dad is comfortable with...

  21. I've got one of them Sears Craftsman riders... haven't had any problems with it at all in >3 yrs. However... I really wish I would have gotten one of them zero radius turn types (I'd buy one now if I thought there was a chance in hell of the wifey not cutting my nuts off while I slept). Another thing to consider is the terrain... is it smooth or rough? The front axle assy on mine is the weak, welded type and I should have gotten the cast iron front axle assy as I think it's more durable... Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...

  23. Totally worth it, especially on those early Sunday rides to altitude while stuffed in the back of a 206. Bear in mind, my fat ass is all about comfort at this point of my life... Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...
