The conclusion was based "on the totality of the information," Seattle FBI spokeswoman Robbie Burroughs said, and not just the opinion of Earl Cossey, the FAA-certified parachute rigger who packed each of the four parachutes that were handed over to Cooper on Nov. 24, 1971. "Other parachute experts were consulted," Burroughs said, including some who steeped forward to help the FBI after the parachute's discovery was announced last week. Cossey said Monday that the parachute he examined last week could not have been used by Cooper because of differences in fabric. The parachute laid on his garage floor on Friday was silk; the parachute packed for Cooper was ripstop nylon, Cossey said. Burroughs acknowledged that FBI officials initially erred in saying that the parachute found near Amboy contained no identifying features. After making that statement, a closer inspection found two pieces of information on the parachute: the date Feb. 21, 1946, and what is believed to be a serial number, 307551." Well, it is article like that one and other articles that REALLY confuse thing. Cossey delivered 2 chutes and the other guy had 2 chutes sent over and the 2 front packs came from one of th skyjump places (to tired to look it up). So if there were 4 Back chutes delivered - do we REALLY know if Cossey packed that. There has been quiet a rift over the back chute and whose was used. Until that is CLARIFIED with documents one has to wonder. This is even confusing on which chute went on to the plane. If the other guys was used - he only got one back. So 3 back chutes are missing and only 2 were delivered to the plane - what happened to chute number 3. I don't think the FBI can even unravel the stories on the chutes at this point and time....I know between Cossey's story, the other man's story - there are supposed to be 4 chutes - did Cossey pack all 4 (I am not counting the front packs from Issaqua). So were all 4 of the chutes nylon or silk or what? Would some one clarify this in 1,2, 3, 4 for me. NOT BRUCE - he makes the chute story even more confusing. I know what Cossey sent me and I still have the pictures and the letter and the emails he sent. How do they know which Chutes Cooper used or which one finally were delivered to him - they only took 2 back packs to the pane - exactly what were they. If they were the 2 chutes Cossey had then what happened to the 2 chutes the other guys sent? Could some one spell it out in A & B from Cossey D & C from the other guy. WHAT kind was ALL four chute (disregard the front emergency chutes). CAN anyone swear what CHUTE were taken to the plane and WHY the other guy was reimbursed if it was NOT his chute that was used. Stupid Dumb Old WOMAN needs it spelled out - preferably by the FBI and someone who KNOWS the 4 kinds of Back pacs and who they belonged to and what the legal & physical description was of each said Chute. Sorry - guess I am just Dumb, but I don't get it - what did the FBI do - loose a chute or chutes. A. Cossey delivered kind type etc B. Cossey delivered kind type, etc C Other guy had type,, etc D. Other guy had type, etc. 2 front pacs delivered from Issaqua. Which was cut up A,B,C, OR D? WHICH 2 of the 4 did they actually deliver to the plane!????????????? The other guy got C or D back and was re-emburst for the other one? What was Cossey re-imbursed for -1 or 2 chutes? What did the FBI do with the 3rd unaccounted for chute? All I want is to read and hear is more about the FIRST REAL INVESTIGATION REGARDING the FLIGHT PATH. The INFORMATION TRAIN was really going down the tracks - you could here the WHISTLES being blown - ALL ABOARD! Sitting on that Train was a TEAM of real investigators and those who are well versed in their field. Then along comes this guy who missed the train LONG ago - saying "WAIT-up for me!" The TRAIN is sitting still waiting for him to produce his damn Ticket! Some of the Passengers who boarded are just casual passengers along for the ride and some who like to interject information about their prior trips along that same path. BUT then there is always the guy who will NOT shut UP and just irritates the HELL out of everyone else! There are the Bullies who poke and prod other passengers who contribute what little they know along the way. One Bully demeans a little old lady (who has been on the train since it left the EAST Coast). Hi, Hominid. you are correct, I gave the link to the voice recorder, but it's appears both are on a loop? "All airliners are required to carry flight data recorders and cockpit voice recorders that run on a loop, preserving all flight parameters and conversation for short periods of time, usually one to several hours." could they record that long in the 70's? That is what is missing and it was lost because of the time limit....I didn't understand it - but this is what Himmelsbach was referring to. I was just contact by WA and this was a relay for a question I asked and then relayed to a second party - who was trying to answer what she assumed was the question. The conversation about the Microwave communications between the Dams: The Dams used the microwave to talk to EACH other and to the workers at the dams and up RIVER (so what is Up River) This was a part I did NOT grasp and was coming from a second party with a relay. THese Communications are criticial to the releasing of the power for the grids.... The communications between towers and upstream (what-ever up stream mean in WA) - seems like everything is the opposite of what is the norm. Such as the Lewis flowing North. There was a glitch in the communications between these microwaves as the plane went over. The workers did NOT have land lines and stayed in-touch by microwave. These communications are critical for the operation of the damns. NOW, that is all I know. The third party communicating the information may not have understood the question... What was assured is that the CONVERSATION did happen and it concerned the Dams and Microwave communications and a Glitch. Hopefully I will be able to speak with the 3rd party in a few day, but perhaps someone out there will be able to make some sense out of this . AT LEAST I know I am not CRAZY and hearing things! Gives credence to the areas as outlined not being given to the public. I have known what their statement was - but that picture give credence to the statements made regarding the search areas. Did you take a map and try to outline the area they were searching?I did and it is all withing the perimenter Duane took me and showed me. Not the South Easterly line of the search and how it angles over. THERE are things the FBI has never made public. Who would have thought that 42 yrs later some one could take an OLD search map being used in the field and modern technology would allow the introduction of new stuff. WOW! You accused me of being a liar! YOU have been here in this thread HOW many DAYS? After you have been here for 10 yrs - shall we go back and see HOW your story evolves. Facts do evolve with discovery and investigation. My simple litte experiment with magnets and the watch was completely out of curiousity. Something had bugged me for a LONG time. The brief glich I learned about in WA in 2010 with the grid...and vaguely remember it mentioned in 2001. The authorities down-played the glich and it was dismissed as soon as it was known...but, the rumor continued. You know that old saying "WHAT IF?" Well, enquiring minds will do what is necessary to give it more than a fleeting thought and/or to base something on an unknown. I REALLY am a DUMB BROAD. Mostly because I am very naive, but an honor student. My co-ordination caused me to be made fun of in Gym. I was always in the kitchen Cooking and made the plans for all the others to have a good time.....my first husband was an avid football & baseball player. There are many ways a wife can participate without sitting thru hours of something that bores her. Do something else that allows others to enjoy the activity. YOU STATED: Let me assure you there is little out there I have NOT explored, but in a long lengthy post above I have explained all of that. I WAS telling things to the FBI and to Mr. H prior to any of that being made available to me....all I had until 2000 was a PHONE in my hand and a few things a friend provided to me. I did use the office computer to visit some sites a friend informed me about. I was waiting for the FBI.When they MIS-INFORMED me on information already obtained by another souce - BANG! I let go! I do not know if most of you are aware of this. I received the Ha Ha Ha in the mail after I realized who Dan Cooper was. At that point the only book I had read was Max Gunther's book and the things within that book were screaming at me. The book did NOT arrive until after I got intouch with Himmelsbach and after I read his book. The book I read & turning down pages - those pages are still turned down. Obviously the BOOK that GreyCop has - is a newer addition as there is NO page 4 in Chapter 18. I had contacted Mr. H as I was reading the book - I was frantic. Some of the stories I had ALREADY told MR. H. and the 2 friends I confided in. The Dog - Duane's story was just a little different, but one I had been told by him during out marriage with NO reference to Cooper. La Vegas - I associated with why we went to Tahoe in 1979. I asked Duane why not Las Vega - his explanation was "I can never go there again"....this was before we left the Portland area. I was worried we couldn't afford it and he said the company gave him a cash bonus (this was not true). This was told to the FBI & Himmelsbach before I ever heard of HA HA HA. Mr. H is very aware of when I received the book several months after I contacted him. I didn't get the book until AFTER - the FBI came to see me. I expect I logged the receipt of the book. It just said Pensacola, FL. and it was several months after my contacting Mr. H. I had a friend who was a PI help me put the information together I mailed to Mr. H. I did NOT have the book at that time....yet, I had told some of these same stories to Mr. H and by the way to JT. P.S. The PI is a minister and he would NOT lie about this. He still resides in the area. There are pages are turned down until I get to page 259 - Chapter 16. I will indicate the pages turned down all the way to the end. The stories Duane told me were similar things in the book - but not the same. What got my attention was SWIMMING LAPS. Something Duane did every time he got the chance & we rented a home with a pool & he swam laps everyday. He would swim in the Atlantic - he was a strong swimmer. His best friend was very aware of this as he traveled with Duane. His ex-wife said that was all he did for a few month before they separated. When did the book get my attention: Page 284 - the story about Pyramid. On our way to Tahoe Duane pointed out Pyramid and told me we weren't going there, but he used to know a man there. Had already shared with Mr. H and the FBI...but didn't have the book. The story he told me about Pyramid - the man who was jumper & how the man used to jump tha area. He told me the man was Indian or part Indian. He did NOT mention this in relation to Cooper. You will never know the countless hours & the long distance phone calls I made in 1997 to the area and in my notes and my logs it is all there...I have EVERY phone bill and they are itemized up until 2001. On age 287 - I couldn't contain myself - Duane had told me about an old friend who kept getting in trouble with shoplifting - "just to stay in Practice". But, it was not a friend Duane was talking about - it was himself - he would have exposed his criminal record to me. During the last few months of Duane's life - I found he had been shoplifting at the local grocery. I would not know until pockets of koolaid sufaced. I went to see the manage and he told me they knew, but also knew he was ill and just let it go. This Manager told me a story I didn't know. How Duane paid for things for others infront of him. In one case the woman was buying formula for her baby and she didn't have the money for 2 cans to get her thru the next day. Duane ordered the clerk to go back and get several cans and then he paid for them. When Duane was caught stealing Kool Aid - the manager remember this was the old man who paid for the formula & the old man who bought a toy a child wanted and could not afford. The manager and others had witnessed Duane's compassion for others and how he helped others and - he stole Kool AID. I told the manager I didn't know why he was doing this other than to get attention and he was in end stage renal failure - we were a very small town in 1995. The manager was to contact me if he was aware of Duane taking anything but, he never did. The only thing funny about this is we didn't drink Kool Aid. I had confronted Duane after finding several packets in his jacket pockets, but he never knew I spoke to the Store manage. Duane's excuse "Just Keeping in Practice" - this was in 1994. Duane had told me about Longview and a smorgasborg he and the GUYS used to eat at (that was on our trip to Seattle from Vancouver....I had told Mr. H about this before I ever got thw damn book. THat should be in my original statements to the FBI on those first phone calls. I had NEVER heard of the book at that time. Duane's hair from pictures the wife sent me was graying before the skyjacking and she admitted to dying his hair for him many times. The pictures I have prove this. In Tahoe Duane explained the catwalk they used to catch gamblers cheating - I really do not know how one cheats with cards - they must be magicians. Told to Mr. H and FBI before ever seeing the book....if the FBI recorded my conversations - the will find that is so. Duane's sister lived in Modesto in 1971. The sister thought I was the woman who was with him in 1971...it was there he went to let things die down, but I would NOT know this until I actually met the sister in 2004 & what she told me in the hospital at that time. She was SO happy I was NOT THAT woman she thought I was. I had been telling her that since Duane died, but until she saw me with her own eyes she did NOT believe it. Oakdale was just about 13 miles from Modesto. The incident with the Owner of the Pet shop was told to me by Duane but in a different way. He always made it a point to do things for other people and very generous even when we didn't have it to give. Remember the story I told about a client of mine. IT was Christmas the yr before he died. I came home really upset about what I had witnessed in a home...it was Christmas and all those kid and there was no heat - just a big fire place and quilts hanging in the ajoining room so the heat would stay in that room and the kitchen. It was obvious they slept on the floor in that room. I saw what she was cooking - and my heart was breaking. When I got home I told Duane about what I saw - he proceeded to get dressed - and said do you know how many kids - I had them on my books age and sex. We went to K-mart and he was grabbing age & sex appropriate gifts & we went to the grocery story. I was worried about money because he just had his disbability & I wasn't making much...but they had nothing. The tree was a pine limb leaning in one corner with paper decorations. I wrapped all of the gift and we had 2 large Paper bag of food - Christmas dinner - everything she needed to make a feast plus bags of fruit & pecans. It was dark and he pulled the van just past the house and I went to the door first with the gift and fruit coming back for the 2 bags of groceries...then I knocked on the door and ran like hell. Jumped in the van - they had never seen what my husband drove. When we saw the door open we took off. Didn't want someone else to take it and there was no phone...the neighborhood was a very poor area. It was a good feeling - this is just how Duane was. There is a part of the book I did not know was another little something that connected Weber to the book. I knew there was a man in Duane's past with the name Fuchs, but did NOT know Duane had a close relationship with a relative of his...this man even told a person interviewing him on my behalf that Duane had a relationship with a family member. I recently revealed that in this thread. I was was connecting the name with a name of a man Duane worked for and thought it just coincidence. Duane told me about knowing a guy who worked in the airport as a shoe shine man AS we went thru Portland, but he didn't know if know if he was still there. I have told this story before. Duane and his ex at one time lived briefly in OAKDALE this - came from the ex and from his sister. Oakdale in the event some of you do not know - was an area were several thousands of dollars in 20's was thrown into back yds after I had come forward....I contacted Himmelsbach and asked them if the FBI had check the 20 against Cooper. Evidently they were checked out....remember this was AFTER I contacted the FBI and I AFTER I went public. So this is what you guys have been referring to - why didn't you just ask. I told all of these things to the FBI and to MR. H before I went to the FBI and before I even thought about going public. THE thing that forced me to go public was a FBI agent telling me things that we had already investigated & knew were true - and I was told by the FBI such facts were NOT true...had to do with the Army and the McNeil record. A few wks ago I pulled the book because of what GreyCop said and looked something up, but I have a difficult time reading the screen and the written word...so I didn't start reading until a comment made by GreyCop reference something in the book. He gave an incorrect page number and he is such a nut. ONLY then did I realize what you guys have been digging for. BARE this in mind - this book was published in 1983 and Duane told me the stories before that... ON OUR trip in 1979! Of course I can well see where YOU will take this - but, I did NOT read the book until 1997 and every word above is the truth and the same story I have told for yrs. By the way on a trip to N.Orleans Duane went to see a TRUMPET Player and a SHOE SHINE man in N.ORLEANS...in 198. He did NOT allow me to meet these individuals because they knew him under another name which I would not learn about until 1990. He left a package for both of them. I never knew what was in those packages....whatever it was he was able to put in his pockets! I have a picture of the N.Orleans trumpet player. I will see if it is still in my online file and post it. It was a newpaper article regarding is age and his birthday - he was VERY old. So this is what you guys have been digging for - all you had to do was ASK. I was telling about these things for yrs...it was NO secret...WHY the hell did you think I kept digging - because I knew many things in that book there was NO way I could know. Our trip was in 1979 and the book was NOT published until 1983. WHY the hell do you GUYS think I DRIVE myself SO hard. If this was what you were after we could have save me several yrs of my life and my health. The book was telling STORIES - DUANE told me in 1979 on the trip....in most cases the book was more elaborate, but the stories were to similar to ignore. The stories took place BEFORE the book was written. 1979 comes before 1983. I can't believe this is what you have BEEN after all of this time. WHY NOT ask his friends - friends he knew before he ever married me. Why didn't the FBI ask his EX-wife? I understand where you guys are coming from and I have never made any secret about having read the book and the stories Duane told me.... was in 1979 and the book was not published until 1983.... NO way DUANE was setting me up - did he know about the book in 1980 when he made a trip to Omaha to a bank ....IF this is the impression the FBI has been under all of these yrs - they need to go back to the conversations BEFORE I read the BOOK & when I made long pleading calls they ignored - prior to ever reading the book. Now that I think about this - perhaps it was one of the FBI agents who sent me the book. All it said was Pensacola, FL. I hope I logged the time frame the book arrived at my home. I had spoke to the guy who I was dating and to my best friend and her husband. They didn't send it - so that leaves the FBI or someone else with access to a Pensacola post mark. If you are referring to the old prior research - what is posted was as far as I could get - NO pictures in 2008 and I could not get to the place they were stored at. A man went there on my behalf but was denied entry to the files. At least HE TOLD ME HE WENT THERE...? I came back to say - it was time we got back to some real research like we used to and not all of this game playing some of these nuts have driven myself and others to. What was posted back then was as far as I could get. My old computer and the searches were easier. Now, I can't even down load the things I used to be able to. If you are saying there is a profile picture on that DAN COOPER - I will FREAK out! SURELY that is NOT what you are saying. YOU have done some amazing things in the past with your searches - especially finding the picture of Duane as John Collins in 1966. THAT one I will NEVER ever forget! Surely you are playing a game with me. As of this morning when I signed off - I just decided to focus my attention where I needed it to be focused right now - my health and re-doing my will. 1. The rule & regulation prevent me from exposing you on the thread. 2. I have NOT plagerized anything that I am aware of. I try to use the quotes and the source. I was only able to read the obits on that site he sent me to - so if plagurization is the accusation - then SOME one PLEASE show me the post I made and then the source from which I supposedly took such information. After 18 yrs at this - I am sure I do not remember a source for certain information and I am not writing a book. WHAT I want to know is WHAT information is being referred to...and I mean specific....the article versus what I wrote in the thread. SOMEONE show me the PROOF. THEN if I did tell something WORD FOR WORD that I had read - then I EITHER HAVE ONE HELL OF A MEMORY or IT is something that has been repeated over and over by others in the thread or in the books I read for yrs. YOU can bet the first time what ever was said - that it was accredited to the source. I also repeat stories that are told to me by Weber and by others...I will not know the source and it is hearsay. If I tell stories told to me by Weber and I have told a lot of them. They come from my researching the things he talked about, the things his wife told me and the things he himself told me about. WHAT I want to know is an EXACT sample of what I am accused of plagurizing or claiming as MY OWN memory. If what I am BEING ACCUSED of comes from others WHO actually cannot talk about the subject in an objective and intelligent and informed manner - this put up or shut UP. I have been at this for 18 fricking yrs...and I am sure my memory uses the words of others - and I am stating them for information purposes as they apply to the subject at hand. NO more accusation of telling LIES, without presenting the exact item supposedly being lied about and proving I took that item from a specific place. I have just about every book or artical ever written about the case and many I have printed from sites on the computer and many mores mailed to and sent to me because my search capabilities are pretty poor. If it takes 30 minutes to down load a site - you just go on by. It was not this bad in 2000 when I first got a computer - I thought it was fast...but programs changed and my computer is old and I have dial up - things take forever to come up. Do any of you know how many differenct stories have been told about those chutes. Sure wish the FBI would at least state and with demonstrations. 1. Front chutes - emergency packs came from A. B. C. One of these was a dummy. They were provided by who and from where. 2. Two Back Pack and they were A. kind B. size C. owned by 3. The chute that was cut up was ' 1. a front emergence 2. A back chute. 3. What chute above was returned to Hayden and WHY did Cossey claim they were his - WHY was he the one to DELIVER them. Where they at Cossey's place to be repacked. Why was one of them a left hand pull. hence Cossey's declaration Cooper did not survive. I truely wish someone would outline this - everything I ever read confuses the types of chute and who what belonged to. This start with Mr. H's book and continues to this day...the more I learn the more confusing it is...Until I came to this thread I THOUGHT I knew which one was which and finally I just went along for the ride as the chutes didn't seem to make any difference in what I had to say. Enough of all of the cutting and hacking - WHAT are you going to do when a representative for the WA power and dam - are confronted by old & new articles that mention this Glitch with the Grids & the dismissal of the man at the controls that night. Remember Tina noted something sticking out of the top of the briefcase - it was green. Remember the old back brace with the staves in it - something he could NO longer get around his large girth, but refused to allow it be thrown away? No one ever found the brief case yet everyone feels certain he would have chose the satchel over the case - but the case was evidence - what do you bet it had a receiver in it? Or perhaps it blew to pieces before it hit the ground. Now that is just movie stuff. But the brief case was loaded with evidence that would convict Cooper and his accomplices! - So what is a guy to do! HOLD on for dear life! The briefcase was NEVER found. Did he bury it and then go back for it? He needed the damn chute to protect him until his pickup could locate him. He had receiver set up in several place - he had to keep moving and he was running out of options. He was missing the pick-up. So who was the pick-up...and who was the skyjacker...how many were involved? This story could have endless endings but there is only one! I exchanged phone calls and communication with this man in the last few yrs. I had contacted him about the WHITE BOY at WALLA WALLA who used to go the white man's store to buy them things since they were not allowed to go in the restuarants and other places. At that time there was 3 of the original Nickles and now I do not know if the other 2 are alive. You see MATT I do communicate with others in this mad search and I do like anyone else jump the gun especially now. I have found nothing new other than some new obits. The site is nothing like the old one, but I am able to access it very slowly. I have his address still and do not know if there was other living relatives - but a thank you and condolence card will be mailed to the address I have with a please forward. He was very NICE, but he did what he could to help me. I do not know who the other 2 are or if they are still living - but there were 3 and it does not seem like it was so long ago...time runs by and the people I needed to talk to where all in their 80's - if Duane was alive he would be 88 yrs old. I do not know how to contact the other 2 or if they are still living. By the way this is not the other 2 smokejumpers I have from the obits. His OBIT below Walter Morris ( Pendleton 1945 ) posted: Oct 22, 2013 Walter, 92, died Oct. 13, 2013, in Palm Coast, Florida. He was one of the original black paratroopers in the Army’s 555th Parachute Infantry Company the “Triple Nickles” and served during the time when the military was segregated. Walter, a first sergeant, led his men on a westbound train from Camp Mackall, North Carolina, in May 1945, during a secret mission called “Operation Firefly.” They had expected to join the fighting in the Pacific, but upon arrival in Pendleton, Oregon, they learned they would be parachuting into remote areas to fight forest fires caused by Japanese incendiary balloons. He told the Associated Press in 2000: “There was this group of loggers sitting around this big pot-bellied stove, and they said, ‘Oh, you’re here. We’ve been waiting for you a long time. We read in the paper that you were coming out here’ ” to be smokejumpers. After high school graduation, Walter began an apprenticeship as a bricklayer, but he found construction work was sparse during the Depression. He joined the Army as a one-year volunteer in January 1941. Walter and his men were largely servants to the white combat troops at Ft. Benning, Georgia – they did the cooking, mess hall serving and other mundane tasks, but longed to be paratroopers. In their off time, Sgt. Morris and a few others trained themselves to be paratroopers while the “jump school” facilities were not in use by “official” trainees. A passing general took note of their efforts and put Walter in charge of a handful of black soldiers, who began official training to be Army paratroopers. Walter was the first black soldier to earn the Army's coveted “Jump Wings.” The handful soon became a company with Walter in charge. The Airborne Training School was subsequently inundated with black applicants and the company became a battalion. Walter was promoted to sergeant major, the battalion’s highest-ranking enlisted man. I didn't look for anything but the obits and it took forever. I didn't see anything on Richard Paperlegs Peterson - I have Paperlegs obit and that is how I knew so much about him. He was the first person I looked for yrs ago. That was because Duane went to Langdon to see him...the trip we got caught in the Snow storm in WY. coming home - the same trip the plane communiation came thru on our CB on our way to Rock Springs. When we get to Rock Spring Duane goes to langdon to see Paperleg - he is 1 1/2 hours away....Duane went with NO appointment....NO one does that to sell an insurance policy.
