I had a copy of the letter in a more accessible file. The date is April 15, 1943 He thanks his mother for the dollar she sent. "I thought maybe if I came home I could get this straighten out and save you people a lot of money. But if you people have it all straightened out that is all that is necessary. If you ever get sick I want you to notify the Red Cross as they can notify me. That is all I can get a leave for is sickness. That is the law in the Army, but don't worry about me on getting out of this one man outfit. I wonder what the HELL this meant? When are you going to send me my watch as I sure do need it out in the field as I have a lot of time precision and I need something to tell what time it is. Thank you for washing my clothes but I won't be able to wear them anyway when I get home. I am also glad you recieved papers. I tried to take out $10,000 in insurance, but they would only allow me $8,000 because of my $2,000 Navy insurance. I also had my bonds signed over to you. The chemical end of it is just as good as anything else. Maybe I will get a chance to see John soon. He might get sent to Camp Sibert Ala before he goes across. All dressed up is right. Without pulling the file I can't answer that at this time - he was only at Camp Siebert about 2 months. I do have the file and if I feel like it this week-end I will pull it - I am not supposed to lift anything over 2 lbs - Those files are in 4 inch deep bound volumes. I am getting ready to take my "Stupid Pill" so it won't be tonight....plus I am in lots of pain. Do you have clue were E18 came from and where what has been put out there about Cooper that would cause him to even ASK those questions. He is either a spook from another site with a lot of Knoss kind of stuff or he has knowledge the general public has never been informed of. 18E's questions threw me for a loop. Boot Camp: You do realize Duane had served in the Navy and put out on a bad conduct charge - for striking an office in the time of war. The incident happened OFF base, but since it was WAR TIME - it made no difference. I have no verification of the cause, but I have the correspondence between Duane's mother and the Navy personnel. I also have detailed Navy military records supporting this. This should answer you first 3 questions adequately. Duane was only 16 when he got into the Navy. The Navy was his choice because he wanted to be a pilot, but his being farsighted meant his dream would never come true....so he had to settle for being a machinist. His sister told me this story and I assume it to be true. She was not one to lie or exaggerate. I forget what the military records said about his age and I am not well enough to dig though the documents. The originals are in a large safe provided for me by another source and I have copies for my use, but the files are massive and I do not have the physical ability to dig thru them. I have quoted the Navy file in this thread a few yrs ago. Duane had be expelled from the Army after they found he had been in the Navy and discharged on a Bad Conduct. How he got in the Army is still a mystery! But he was at Camp Siebert in 1943. He was in CA in late 1944 (377 knows all of these details) and they were discussed in the thread. In CA 1944 he had been arrested and released , but he ran away - back East and was arrested there and then immediately sent back to CA. (I have all of the supporting documents on this including the letters to and from the authorities and to all of the communications between his mother and the authorities. CA immediately sentenced him to McNeil in Jan of 1945 for violation of (don't remember the terminology). They even gave the date he was transported (immediately) to WA. He was released 6 months later, but remained in the WA/OR/ID area. Note during those 6 months he was NOT in the population of the McNeil prison....the details of that prison record were so old they had been destroyed and only a brief summary was left. The family and the Uncle intervened and he was placed I suppose in a special program, but not within the confines of McNeil. The historian at the prison had hoped there might still be something left - but nothing. This was a few yrs ago, but the FBI had access before they were destroyed...not that they bothered to do so. The official file was just a few lines and indicated he was 26 yrs old per the ID he had, but he was actually only 19. I hope this helps answer the questions. Sorry I am unable to dig for the details so you will have to settle for my memory or search the thread - it was all posted and discussed. At that time I was posting from the files actual copies of government documents. I do not have the ability to copies the documents and post the documents - that is beyond my skills. People use things like this against me - when I quote from memory without the files which is why some of the things seem to change so I hope I didn't get a date or a detail wrong - I am in my 70's. The division Duane was in is clearly spelled out on the letter and the address. He was doing field training and it required a lot of timing and asked his mother to send him his watch. He states that the chemical end of this is not so bad, but it was not what he wanted. Do you think Duane made that up in 1943 and that he managed to get the letter post marked from the base. There is NO biological on the address and the identifications on the letter. Perhaps the Biological was NOT add to the training until after 1943. YOU think? I never stated that Duane worked for this CBR. I don't know who he worked for or if it was part of the "out sourcing" with McNeil in 1945. His uncle - CHECK IT OUT YOURSELF, was CWF in WW1 and then recalled for a BRIEF time during the Balloon Bomb - this brief recall was done with Public Service. YOU just do not GET IT. I don't give a HOOT how old you are or how much experience you CLAIM to have - you had nothing to do with Camp Siebert CWFT and you had nothing to do with the Effort in WA during the Balloon Bomb time. Are you a MILITARY HISTORIAN? If not then show RECORDS from history that support your purported knowledge of the Camp Siebert training in CWF in 1943. I do not know what your resources are - but you need to talk to the McNeil Historian about the programs they created for 1st time offender who did NOT belong in Camp Siebert. I have listed these previously. I have also stated the FAMILY members and friends of the family took efforts to make sure Duane did NOT enter the general population of the prison where he would have been raped and placed with harden criminals. His being sent to McNeil destroyed his life or what it could have been with the intervention programs available to day. Duane Weber was ALWAYS there to help others when they fell. He never turned anyone down - he was a good friend to those he knew and to those he did not know, but saw struggling or moving in the wrong direction. In fact I thought he was too SOFT on others. Duane was being trained in the field - and his letter indicates timing and in the field. Duane may not formally have finished high school but let me assure you he took every course there was to take in prison made available to him - I have some of the certificates. Therefore in prison - he had more than a high school education. His penmanship, history knowledge, math skills and his ability to improvise - might have caused you with your degrees to lower your head in shame. Formal education is NOT all there is to life. Obviously you never learned the lessons life has to offer. 1.NEVER try to discredit a woman or make a mockery of her when you already know she holds the papers on the criterior you are speaking of. If you had been reading my posts you would know that the CAMP SIEBERT part of this story has been documented and researched. I do NOT live to far from there and historians from the area and some out of Ft. Benning did a LOT of research for me. Duane was handy and he was in WA. If his Uncle wanted him you can bet he got him on one of the field crews. They pulled this together VERY fast - and if the individual was available and had even the basic training they were put on crews. WHO said they were employed by CBR. Did CBR actually exist in 1945 and did they have enough field personnel available in the states with small planes to do what they needed to do over a multi state area. NO THEY DID NOT. They used private planes because military planes would have cause the public to become alarmed. What is in BLUE is DOCUMENTED. Take yout supposed knowledge of this and shove it where it will do the most good! On second thought both ends! Jo, The whole story above is not believable. The first thing you do when entering the Army, whether WW2 or today, is go through about two months of what used to be called Basic Combat Training. Advanced Training of one type or another would follow that. You said a few days ago that Duane was only in the Army for a couple of months before his enlistment fraud was discovered and he was booted out. It is HIGHLY unlikely that Duane had any type of chemical training except maybe a few minutes of tear gas exposure as he was learning to use a gas mask (assuming he even made it that far). Duane didn't acquire any military skills during his time in the Army. If he claimed otherwise in a letter to his mother, he was conning her just as much as he apparently conned you. Robert99 The admission records and the letter and the other papers we acquired would tend to argue your point successfully. I cannot explain these things, but that is the way it was. I do have the PROOF regarding the Army part. It is still unclear how long he was at Camp Seibert and if he went there from another facililty. Perhaps basic was not done - and he was given a second chance and blew it - I don't know. We do have the letter stating knowledge of his escapades on base - by commandeering a superiour officer's vehicle for a joy ride. I have explored that theory and of course go NO where with the FBI or the facility! Remember that after he served his time he stayed only briefly in Kansas and then they went to CO. where his wife had family. I do not know how much time expired. Both he and his wife had jobs in CO. When the sister of the wife called her husband and told him the FBI had been there. The brother-in-law called Duane and his wife (the man's sister-in-law) and told him to take a car out of his warehouse (not sure where this car was stored) and leave. The wife and her children left with him for N.Orleans...they had 2 cars and abandoned one along the highway. They stayed with an individual for about 2 wks and then then got an apt. He worked as a busman and doorman. Later moving to Alabama where Duane obtained a job as a INSURANCE SALEMAN - in the state. The FBI never bothered them and he was licensed under the name of Duane L. Weber. When the hurricane (Camile - I think it was if my memory serves me) they headed for Atlanta, Ga where he then went to work for the SAME company (a company known to hire many ex-cons). Your explanation works, but WHY did they not pursue this 5 time felon who had spent 17 yrs in prison? While in New Orleans he worked as a bus boy in a resturant and a doorman for a hotel there in the beginning and he over heard a conversation. He passed this information to authorities and this was when he went to AL with a job as an unsurance agent and the FBI never bothered him again. I would later after finding out more about the man who owned the company that hired Duane - that this is ALL pausible. The ex-wife swore it was the truth and the things I found out about the company who hired him and taught him to use his con skills to sell insurance - a career that basically provide him with a future. He was arrested after that only when he was passing thru Jax, FL He was in the middle of a nasty divorce and because someone pulled some strings he did NO time for the offense you guys provided regarding 1976. I knew some of this story - but knew nothing about a the theft or gun. I was told he had a DUI and that is all I would know until many many yrs later. Unless someone pulled some strings - Duane should have gone STRAIGHT back to prison. Like a monopoly game - which by the way was a game he excelled in but, was told prisoners played lots of monopoly when not on detail. Therefore - U may be right as that fits right into what I know. Now U know the other things that happened and there are few other explanation - one just does not go from being a "MOUSE" (read into that what you will) to being a successful insurance salesman - without some help. 1971 was a bad yr because he got sick - and was diagnosed with PKD. His marriage to the woman with him in CO and AL fell apart. I will never know everything that happened that yr., but the parts I have been told were hard to handle. A child was born to his step-daughter and was "given" to the father of the baby as the 15 yr old mother would not have been able to provide for him. The income for both of them was less than $2000. I have provided the work detail of that yr on this thread. They were living from day to day and I am sure he had to have been back at his old occupation - but just did not get caught. I think the baby and his inablility to provide income - was the breaking point. He alway spoke very fondly of the 8 yr old boy and the 15 yr old girl and what she went thru. He told me about how horrible it was to see a child giving birth to a child. This child, Tina and my daughter all had similar appearances. Long blond hair and very fragil looking. Jo, Your wild imagination about balloon bomb secrets, forest fire fighters that required security clearances, and "information about all of the different groups involved" is complete nonsense. No firefighter needs a security clearance to fight a forest fire. Stories about the balloon bombs were initally printed in newspapers and even national magazines in the US. Finally, the US Government asked the media to embargo those stories. But there were plenty of other ways that the news about the bombs could be, and was, circulated. In my particular case, having seen one of those balloon bombs in flight, the word was passed to the kids at school to notify the police if they found one of the balloons out in the brush. Reportedly, the first information the Japanese had about the balloons arriving in the US was from a story in a Thailand newspaper. "All the different groups involved" that you mentioned consisted of only the normal police and law enforcement officals plus the military services. There were no "secret" groups set up as a result of the balloon bombs as far as is known. Jo, Here is a question for you. What event caused the Japanese to develop those ballon bombs in the first place? Finally, it is typical of Jo Weber to believe her own imagination about supposed events even when eye witnesses to those events do not support her version. If what you are saying is TRUE - I have NOT been notified of the actiivities of John Collins from 1962 to 1966 and he was encarcerated under that name and recieved a commution of sentence uder the name John Collins and Not Duane Weber. The online site was NOT available when I started and then when they put it ON-LINE they WASHED the file. Therefore if they knew he was Duane Weber then I am ENTITLED to a commutation of sentence for Duane L. Weber from Jefferson. This needs to be OFFICIAL and as it stands Duane L. Weber was NOT commuted. I have the enclosure they left with the returned DNA tested items - date and individual doing the testing. STRANGE 377 NEVER told me his son did the DNA testing....I am NOT supposed to lift anything or bend my head, but I am going to find that report. What you are stating are things that if they are true I was NEVER told - so how do you come by this knowledge or hearsay! I try to tell what I can - I am not a investigator nor do I have knowledge of how to present things - I don't know what else to do other than what I have been doing. I can't make my words become fact...I can't access old safety deposit accounts because I can prove Duane Weber was John C. Collins. My hands are tied unless the FBI provides me with the information...those yrs are closed to me - in many ways. I can't go dig up the dead and make them talk. I can present specific DNA that will be that of Duane L. Weber - but I can't afford to take the watch to a DNA person and have them pull that DNA in all its details to someday be compared to whatever else might ever show up. I do not understand what anyone expects of me. I can't do it alone - I have tried for 16 yrs now. During the first few yrs I let the FBI do their thing until I realized they were doing nothing. I come off a lot different in person than I do on the thread, but I try to stay in the background and out of site because there have been problems with this in the past. I am not looking for publicity the way Marla does and I do NOT speak in public - one on one or one to a couple - otherwise I freeze up. The pictures could be that of Ed or a relative because of the resemblance. The man who I was told was very dangerous I have NO picture of and he disappeared or died. Tony Wong - those painting were from behind a prison wall, but the wire wall and the towers seemed to be to keep something out instead of in. It would have been REAL easy for the FBI to find Tony before he died - but they didn't care or where told NOT to. Yes, I do believe all of this has something to do with the GOV and that the FBI has their hands tied. I really really do. Duane was a 2 bit criminal but he got messed up in something bigger than he was....by accident or for a promise that was never kept. I have pieced his life together the best I can - and it is up to others to fill in the blanks. Fill those blanks in and you will find Cooper or whoever is buried in that grave in WA. The Balloon Bomb connection can be proved and it is the most significant angle the FBI could approach if they were NOT keeping secrets. Perhaps why Ckrets name was just that Secret. The ties to Duane's past lye there in. As for the CB thing I only know what I heard and what Duane said to me. IT did happen! I tried to hire a PI, but I had only Duane's life insurance, my job and a house with a mortgage. The phone bills were enough to break me, but I kept on and I still keep on. Now my health is a really bad issue....but, I have to somehow get the FBI or someone to really look at Duane's past....the missing yrs the FBI refuses to talk about! Marla would never venture into what I have and she never will, because she knows her story cannot STAND up to something like the DZ where there are individuals who know what they are talking about and the mockery that goes with the territory. Because I searched for the truth and I was telling the truth about my life with Weber and the things he said and did and the people he knew...I had NO reason to be timid about the hard questions that have come my way and the iffy places I have had travel to in my mind. The connections to MLK are real and the FBI knows this - it is undeniable that Duane did know James Earl Ray and the wife knew him...they simultaneously spent time in the same prison for a few months. Alcatraz - only because I met Ed and because he looks like he could be John and something Duane said to me - but, I will die with that one. I will let it go that the escape was in 1962 and Duane was on the run in 1962 as John Collins and there were individual who knew Duane as John Collins and very one of them I met had questionable pasts connected to all of the things I have spoke of over the yrs. Well think what you want but it is true and I know you are making fun of me, but I am a very serious person. Not very good at jokes. As for the CIA and government cover-ups. Yes, I explore many things and remembering the yrs with Duane and the things he told me and the missing yrs the FBI provided no insight into - would lead anyone down avenues best not traveled. I knew he had introduced me to some individuals - and because of my memory, I was able to trace some of this - and tracing took me places I had never been. Such as a party we attended in N.Orleans - when the man's face I never forgot showed up in a new article - I freaked. Duane claiming to know Paperlegs and his ex-wife verifying this...she said she had a picture of her with his wife a place she hated "In Plane Sight". Let you figure out what I am talking about and I have told the story in this thread. Several others were connected to the criminal world and some I will never know about. You mock me I know , but I have lived this life and it has NOT been a pleasant trip. I have told what I could and I can do no more. I wish more than anything in the world he had never told me what he did in the hospital, but he did and it is what it is. How you guys will remember me and how you mock me - that is not a good feeling, but I have NOT lied nor have I fabricated a story. Do you know what private investigators charge for something like that? Lots of travel time and they would not know anymore than what we have been able to find with all of the contributors to this thread. A book writer - I am not. A story teller - I am not. A liar - I am not. Someone hitching onto a star - well if I was - there would have been a book or movie yrs and yrs ago. I chose to wait for the FBI, but when it was evident the FBI was doing nothing I turned to the computer. It was a process as the only programs I had ever used on a computer where booking and keying the information. It was not even on line so doubt it was even considered a computer. In 1996 when I got my Real Estate Licences I learned to search the MLS on the computer at work. During the yr of 1998 after the FBI dismissed me, my boss allowed me to stay in the office to do a little searching, but I did NOT know how - I found a few articles, but did not participate in a forum. I tried not to abuse the access he provided. He knew what I was looking for, but I had not gone public....I confided in him because I needed to use the computer to find things my friends had found and to see how much I could find. I had attended a Real Estate College in CO and also took the required classes in FL and passed the test with a VERY high score...if I had not erased to correct answers it would have been the first perfect score. As it was it was so high they took the liberity of looking at my card (we did not use computers for the test in 1996). The dream never ever changed and I have never forgotten what he said. He was talking in his sleep and I started trying to get him to talk about his daughter, but he was deep into that dream. He screams out with his hand extended and scream very very loudly "I left my prints on the Aft Stairs - I'm going to DIEEEEEeee!" He gets up and takes some medication and fixes himself a brandy. I asked what Aft stairs was and he simply said it it was the stairway in a jail. I did not know he had been in jail and he made it sound like it was just a couple of months and he got in trouble with a couple of guys. I didn't ask anymore than he volunteered. He indicated he was young so I thought it was probably nothing more than a county jail. I just didn't want to know - I had never known anyone who had been to jail. I swear to you and before the creator that I did NOT know who DAN Cooper was until 1996 - 1yr and 2 months after Duane died, when I read the book a friend told me to read - after I told him about the things Duane said when he was dieing. I knew VAGUELY who D.B. Cooper was but did not ever make any connections between Duane and D.B.Cooper other than the strange thing he said in WA in 1979. Only get an aol connection very briefly so I am having to do this in segments. If Duane was doing something out of spite - it was 17 yrs in the making. Think about this and think really hard. When Duane showed me were McCoy died and told me the story about McCoy - (this was in 1983) I do not on this date remember him mentioning anything about D.B. Cooper. I never heard of DAN Cooper until 1995 when he died and I did NOT know DAN Cooper was the name used by D.B. Cooper until 1996 when I read a book a gentleman friend suggested I read. I was on the phone to the FBI - (I listed the page number before, but I am not going to try to find it now). He just told me about McCoy and he did say McCoy was a copy cat, but he did NOT mention Dan Cooper. The confession in 1995 really happened and I wish I had known at that time Dan Cooper was D.B. Cooper - then what he told me might have made a little sense at the time. A couple of wks before he went to the hospital he asked me for a recorder. I could not afford one, but a friend took one to him, but did not work. I did not know why he needed a recorder now I do. P.S. The location McCoy died in was NO WHERE near our home, but on the same road as the Mall with the Thalhimer in it in 1983. The location McCoy died in was a few blocks from this Mall, but more than a couple of blocks. Again this is how Jerry attacked me over and over and over and over and over. These would be very good pieces of circumstantial evidence. If the ticket was THE ticket, it would be a slam dunk. Without them, well... Very true - if I had that ticket this would be over with. What he did with the ticket I will never know. Did he bury it with Symba. Symba was so smelling NONE of us wanted to get too close. Was in in the hidden wallet or some other place in that Van. I don't know and I never found it. I ACTUALLY held the ticket in my hands and read the date off of it. The next time I saw it it was in his sock door and then it disappeared. I believe he placed them in a book that was not a book and the girl at the market sold them. This was before he died....she was helping us with a garage sale. That evening Duane asked me to go out to the garage and get him that book - it was not there. He said he would take care of it tomorrow.
