I was an avid skydiver and airplane nut in 1971. I also owned a huge 727 flight manual then. I couldn't see any way to jump from a 727. The flight manual gave no hints that the rear stairs could be safely deployed in flight. I assumed that they couldn't. I figured there must be a locking system that prevented the stairs from deploying after takeoff. Most airliners have "squat switches" that are triggered by landing gear strut compression and can be used to disable or enable systems. I had no idea that a stock airline 727 could be jumped in 1971. Jo had insisted to me that 727s were jumped in SE Asia. I was sceptical but did some searching and made contact with Dr. Joe Leeker at Univ of TX who had tons of info on CIA and Air America ops in that area. He confirmed the use of 727s for test airdrops over Thailand. Leeker had fantastically detailed records of CIA aircraft and ops during the Viet Nam war. He was very gracious about sharing info. Without that knowledge he was very possibly entering an aluminum jail cell that would prevent his escape until landing. With my 727 knowledge and skydiving experience in 71 I never wound have tried what Cooper did because I could not be sure I could get out of the plane in flight. Not any of the cockpit crew nor anyone at NWA ops could could determine whether the plane could be safely flown stairs down. They had to call Boeing. Turns out Boeing knew because they had done extensive flight tests probably for the CIA. 377 Thank YOU so very much for explaining this to the posters so that they have a grasp of WHAT REALLY HAPPENED. Read ALL you can find about the Missoula fire and you will know why the Cooper name was chosen! An old teaching from the indians - "Lie down in the fire". When I read about the teachings of surving a fire, I knew where DUANE WEBER got that expression. He mentioned the indians and remember the survior who survived only because he laid down in the fire. Duane actually told me this on our 1979 trip...it would be yrs later before I would find verification of this in my research. The teachings came not only from the indians, but from a man in history dating way back. His name was COOPER! Had his teachings been taught to the fire fighters - many would have survived fires they did not. The man who survived Missoula by lieing down in the fire - knew the teaching of this man. I forget the names now, but I have copies of the writings and somewhere in this thread I made the quotes from the book. I do not remember the name of the book right now. As I have said I am loosing details I have held on to many yrs - so you guys will have to do the research on your own or get it from the guy who gets all of my reseach information when I am gone. The teachings of Cooper could have saved many lives. Duane claimed to have known a couple of the guys who were at Missoula. It seemed a very emotional thing for him. He told me this story as we drove along the highway on our way to WA. We did NOT go to Missoula, but he told me the story! You see I do NOT forget things like this - I remember. Just a stange quirk I share with other members of my family...only I am not the best at recall - my brother is as was my father. Also men who change names and use alias often use the same initials. Duane was John C. Collins and other variations of that name. His brother's name was John. John Dusty Collins is how he is listed on the Missouri file and Dusty is give as nickname in other senarios. Dusty Collins a name he used. Dusty was Tattooed on his arm and is listed in the encarceration at Folsom/SanQuentin. Do not know if this tattoo is listed on early arrests prior to that - such as McNeil as the detailed records had been destroyed. Remember this when I met Duane that first time - I did NOT use my married name as it was very common and I was tired of hearing "Sure Baby, Sure". I started using my given name and it intrigued Weber. He was more interesterd in my family history than he was me. He specifically asked me when I told him I was from KY if my fathers name was John. It told him know but my Grandfathers name was John. Yrs later - 1990 when Duane tried to obtain and DID obtain a FL drivers license under an alias he had used John C. Collins that I started to think my marriage to him was a shield. The patrol thought because the van was register to me that the man they were looking for was my father. He seemed surprised when I told him "No, that is my husband, he is 17 yrs older than myself". You know the rest of the story. Using the same initial such as DC makes it easier to remember your fake ID's. Dusty Collins, John C. Collins, Dan Cooper. Duane Weber. Remember if he slipped and said D and didn't finish it he could easily go from saying Duane to Dan. C was easy because his father and brother use Claude and Claudian (not sure I spelled those right, but do not feel like looking them up). This is the story behind the name Dan Cooper. One can also make a K out of the C - he had to have names that follow the thougt path so he could always cover up if he slipped up on his name. Do you think he gave his real name to all of the Women he swindled and stole from? It was the pattern - Easy to slip from Dddd to Dan or Duane. Same with Colllins - easy to slip from Collins to Cooper, to Kooten, to Cotton. I mention Cotton because that is an alias Clare mentioned. One used in the book, but only becuase Clara told Max Gunther that Cooper used sound alike name to his own during the yrs she knew him 1962 to 1972. I have...In San Diego & Hawaii...also in Guam but that's arguably not U.S.A. (yet) YOUR 'personal experience' seems to be rather limited in this instance. Odd you should mention this about San Diego. I know that Duane and his lady of the day - took jobs with a service crew that cleaned the planes and delivered the meals to the planes in between 1962 and 1969. I would have to go back to my notes as I tried to take notes as she talked and/or after I got off the phone with her. So much of this I have not revisited in several yrs. Two note spiral note books of conversation I had with her after I was able to establish a relationship with her after the FBI scared the wits out of her when the contacted her around 1997- 1998. You are not very good with picture studies! Dan Cooper did NOT have a broad face and the eyes are listed as hazel for Wild Bill. The bridge of the nose has a similar appearance - but that is all. The hair line is approx with the composite. NOTE: The artist could not get the hairline correct - not to please all of the witnesses. Florence in some old information on the 10th anniversary - tried again to explain the hair line and then the irregularity got worse - it became a widows peak. If someone has the witness description given to the artist of record - you will find she kept trying to describe what whe was talking about and the artist just did NOT GET IT! So what? Seriously. So what? It's not as if bringing that to light comes with a copyright. Once a piece of information is public, that's what it is; public. I definitely realize that - it is just that I like to see credit given where credit is due. I despise deception even though I have had to participate in deception myself - often pleading ignorance to a subject or pretending to know more about the subject than I really did. 17 yrs is a LONG time to dwell on one subject. I do try to remember who brought certain things forward and despise individuals who do NOT give the credits where they belong - instead taking credit for things they had NOTHING to do with. I knew by participating in this thread that I had to be an open book and I have tried to do that. Believe you me, I could have taken the book thing and the movie thing offered to me, but I chose to find the truths. I was not comfortable with the "places" they wanted to go. I refused to provide her an address - she wanted to send me something. I will never know what that "something" was. Perhaps it was something that would have solve the case - now I will never know. Max Gunther believed that Clara and Duane's ex were one and the same - that was from a recording of her voice. He made a trip to CA and when he returned he and I exchange our last letter and our last phone call in which he asked me if I had a marker and pen. We went thru the book and I marked the few things that Clara shared - the truths that he used to create his book. The book was mostly fiction. Clara was real and the 6 phone calls he exchange with Clara are real - the story was created using those 6 phone calls - he had a lot of filling in to do...but, only after the FBI said they had no interest in Clara or her story. When Clara contacted Max - she thought Cooper was already dead because the last time he saw her in 1977 - he told her he only had about 5 yrs... I remember that when I contacted the ex - she told me she thought he had died a long time before 1995....she was terrified of the FBI. I know my response when I found out in 2001 about what the artist Roy Rose told Doug Pasternak. When Rose told Doug he couldn't make the mouth satisfy the witnessed because of an action he made with his mouth. I immediately told Doug what it was! He and I both had chills from our head to our toes. I will never forget that moment as long as I live as I finished Doug's sentence. He and I discussed Duane's having a lower particial at that time. The next shocking moment was when I first saw that Jefferson Prison intake of Duane. All I could say was "Oh, My God!" Those who know me know that is seldom a terminology I use. Ashen was NOT the correct terminology - absolutely speechless and the sounds I heard that did NOT want to stop that night was my physical reaction. I will never forget the sounds - NOT ever. It was a eerie night! Over the yrs I have felt anger and frustration. It is the moments of new found information and things that fit into what I had been telling for yrs - that took me to my knees or caused me to shout out to no one as I was alone. No, I didn't know that and I don't think your "source" knew that either. The 727 was designed for routes shorter than the 707 routes and it was also designed to fit into the air traffic at airports that also handled the 707. Consequently, it was NOT designed for a small airport. Perhaps you are confused by the 737 which was designed for secondary airports while its main competitor, the DC-9, was designed to fit into air traffic along with the 707, 727, etc.. Let me elaborate a bit more on what Shutter and Georger are writing about these stairs. Normally, there is no need to open a door or hatch on an airliner in flight and they are designed so that cabin pressurization helps keep them closed and sealed. The 727 was just one of several airliners in that time frame that had rear stairs. For instance, the DC-9 was in widespread use in the USA and it had rear stairs as well as did a number of foreign designs. But the 727 was unique in that it was the only airliner with rear stairs that could be deployed in flight. The DC-9 and other airliners could not do this. In addition, it was not "common knowledge", or something that could be observed at the local airport, that the 727's stairs had that capability (or maybe design oversight). So Cooper had to have previous knowledge that the 727's stairs could be deployed in flight and that people and cargo could depart the aircraft in flight by means of those stairs. Since the only place the 727 was being used in this manner was in Southeast Asia, it is logical to conclude that Cooper had knowledge of those operations. When he arrived at the ticket counter in Portland, Cooper had already selected the 727 as the airliner he wanted and he just double checked with the ticket agent. If another aircraft had been substituted for that flight on that day, Cooper would probably have just flown to Portland, got off the plane, and started looking for another opportunity to do a hijacking. Want to BET that there was NOT fingerprints out there on the John Collins ID that matched the prints on Duane Weber - EXACTLY why the WEBER encarceration was as JOHN COLLINS. The Damn Comic was never mentioned in the Cooper Case until Snowmman brought it up in this thread. If YOU think it was - PRODUCE the evidence - PRODUCE the articles where the FBI said this or and if it was made public. IT was not until Snowmman found it and put it in the thread and then Carr used it on the FBI site! The FBI plagurized Snowmman! If you can prove otherwise I will apologize - but I have done this for 17 yrs and never found the Comic until Snowmman put it in the thread. The Comic was never mentioned by the FBI and if it was part of the FBI files - they never made it public. The FBI and any one using this comic angle will need to prove it was in the minutes and that there was an article bringing it public that Cooper may have taken his name from the Comics and that the FBI was looking for such a person. Born June 18, 1924 Died March 28, 1995 If alive today he would be 89 yrs old! Testxyz - I am watching your verbage and your handle is very much like the man who contacted me! The man who contacted me started off with a name that was a friend of Duane's (not difficult to do if you have read the thread and/or have knowledge of the history I have provided to individuals like Sluggo and others). His story started when he was a boy on a vacation with family. I would not provide him with the last name of the friend - this seemed to incite him. This name he was associating with a Boeing employee, but would not give me a name. It was a stand-off! He produced a picture I had not seen before, but blacked out the other individuals. There was a ring familiarity to the pic - I told him there was NO way for me to comment. I had seen that damn photo before or another one taken about the same time...but the only way I was going to be sure was if I could see all of the faces. he refused to do so. It was not so much as I recognized the man (I didn't), but the tie I had seen before. Probably just a popular thing back then. When I went to CA to see Duane's brother there where pictures on the wall of John and a friend. I asked his wife about them out of curiousity. One specific picture stood out - not at that time, but NOW! IT was a picture of John with a man associated with John & Boeing. I have NO idea who ended up with the pictures after John died, but I would love to see a copy of that photo - ONE more time. I thought the other photo I had remembered was posted on this thread by 377, but he said no. It was 2 men sitting on a couch in the 60's. One was wearing the same damn tie I saw in the pic sent to me by Mr. X. A few days later he shifts to another story & pulls away from Boeing and the picture. Suddenly he has a witness! If there were individuals out there who had made claims of seeing Cooper - they would have surfaced LONG ago. He did claim the woman ID a photo of Duane as being the man who called himself "Dusty". We all know that "Dusty" is a name tatooed on Duane's arm and associated with his prison records. I enjoyed talking to the guy, but then all things have to come to an end and he was all over the board. I just decided to move on at that point. Why he presented something to me that was familiar and nothing I had specifically posted about - was of interest and still is. If I saw all the faces in that group photo - would have a better grasp of a memory buried in all of the useless CRAP my mind has retained. Yes, out of the midwest, but the name I was provided - neither stated with an "N". There are persons of interest - well, more than one that started with an N. Well, one chance out of 28 of being right! So we can try the first 2 letters except I just do NOT know which one to start with - again 28 chances one would be right! One name I do not know the second letter - could be Ni or Ny or Ne, but the rest sounds like mick....connected to Boeing in a way, but not sure how. I also have something to share about a man who contacted me for over 2 months who gave me a "story" about Weber. Supposedly his contacts matched the Marla Cooper contact. I stopped communicating with this guy because he was making his story up as we went. Just like BK. The man claimed to have a US Marshall and a backer - I finally cut the man off but I saved all of his emails - bet they match someone from the DL camp! It sounded like a MARLA act from the start, but I played along. When Cossey was killed I stopped communicating with this man - because I realized what he was up to. Told me he had a witness who ID'd Duane at a store in Carson a couple of days after the crime and that he used a pay phone and was picked up by a WHITE caddie with a man driving and a blonde woman in the back. IT smelled like and sounded like a trap set by Marla's Camp. The man could get quiet angry on the phone if I didn't agree with him. This went on for several wks and then I caught him...he was using sources I had used and claiming he had a buddy there who was putting himself at great jeopardy by obtaining info from a source. There are only a couple of peole who work at that location and neitherh one of them had any contact with this man. What the man did not understand was how deep and personal my contacts had been and that I had already done a lot on that particular place with it's 100's of archived photos of forestry workers, sawmill workers and others. His story started in one place and suddenly he shifts in a different direction. I played along until I got bored and then I dropped it! This was in Feb and Mar and lasted until about a wk or 10 days after Cossey got killed. I got nervous regarding the 'game' he was playing and just ceased communications. Since he got MAD at me - he has moved on. He said this thread was monitored by the Marshall or the Backer...he would tell me not to post about it. He was all over the place, but I let it play thru. Unless you can verify your sources defy and beware. He sent me warnings telling me about something that was being said in the thread - but, I knew what it was - and was no threat. He claimed what he had done in a few wks the thread had not done. Hopefully he moved on, but I doubt it - he was sure Weber was Cooper. So now he is working on the DL angle - betcha! The pic of Duane was taken on Christmas 1977 by me at my home. Duane was born in 1924 and LD was born in 1933 - pretty hard to make LD be a middle aged man. She has provided NO good decent pic of LD. What is shown is that LD's eyes looked NOTHING like Cooper and LD had lighter hair with smaller eyes, Coopers eye were very prominent to the stewardess who saw him look over his glasses and tell her "Miss, I have a bomb". Right now you guys know as much as I do. Tomorrow is Duane Weber's birthday June 18, 1924. I try NOT to talk about "other things" Weber discussed over the yrs as they never seem relevant to the subject. Note: I do make cocky remarks to Georger that he NEVER responds to. One might wonder what does JO know about Georger. I myself didn't know I knew things about Georger until I learned his REAL name. Georger NEVER responds to these little hidden but in plain site remarks. Considering Georger's temper one has to wonder WHY? I have often mentioned a man - a man who had a strong connection to the Unions and with many high ranking officials with the government! Not one person "got them" or had a clue what I was talking about. Anyone who did - just let them ride and fade into the past. What they meant is known only to me and to someone who had connections. Was I playing a game? Was I fishing or did I actually have knowledge of things - I did not understand. Do I understand now? Only that I knew things I should not know and that they were connected to things and places I did NOT go to. My knowledge was not that broad - just observation and recall of things said...things I chose NOT to explore. Things I chalked up to Duane being a conman and having traveled in the underworld for 6 yrs of his life as John C. Collins. Also his having served 17 yrs of his life within the system. The people I met over the yrs - with no actual knowledge of who they were until I tried to unravel Duane's life. Things and place I went into to unravel his life - are not places I felt comfortable with. I never ever forgot what Tommy told me "Your husband knew people in high places and if you want to be around to play with your grandkids you will destroy everything you have and NEVER look back!" This statement was made to me 1996. I still have the phone records and could pull up the exact date of that conversation. Duane had told me that the man was a VERY dangerous man and that I should NEVER be alone with him - I have told this story before and will not repeat it in detail. Thank You, Lee! Lee was thanking me because I started the serious discussions about Cooper. The thread I started or someone started for me - was Trashed! Then Quade started this thread. The post was UNRELATED to some of the more recent postings and I appreciate the support. As Quade stated there are those who follow the Cooper story and are personally interested in the subject. Many members of the DZ have reached out to assist me over the yrs - each in their own way. Many (most) of them do NOT post to this thread, but I know they are there if I need them. Georger do YOU know how many NEW composites have surface since 2007 and they all claim to be OFFICIAL! Well, new composites could NOT be done WITHOUT - Tina, Florence and Alice and any other witness who is still alive. None of the witnesses have contributed to NEW composites. This is all hype AND/OR just proving the FBI knows there was more to the Cooper Case than has ever been revealed... Georger just ignore Blevins because you are going to be needed very soon. You will note my posts were NOT addressed to him, but he chose to reply as though he had the power and knew more than anyone else in the thread. If you are in anyway connected to the FBI YOU know there is something going on and what is going to happen is NOT going to make ANYONE happy. If this case is going to be solved it will have to be done by the public. If the FBI is going to announce they are closing the case because they have solved it - BULL! NOT until the Fat Lady Sings! If by some small chance the think Weber was the best suspect - it is going to put a lot of guys up in arms. No matter what they do - they will not make everyone happy. Most of the key witnesses are getting old and if they can't finish the story now they NEVER will. Rather than argue back and forth between all of us - I would like to suggest something. ONE Blevins will be left entirely out of this and the same with JT as he has absolutely nothing to offer and only frightens people and intimidates them. I spoke with the copilot last wk and we had a very nice conversation. He knows I have stayed out of his life due to his health and his wifes health. He intends to come see me - he said that before but I understand circumstances get in the was. I am going to suggest that the co-pilot, the 3 stewardess and a couple of other who think they remember whatcooper looked like ....get to gether in a quit conference CLOSES to the public with on certian individuals invited. NOTE distruptive individuals like Jerry or Blevins. Each person would decide what they are going to present and they can make their presentation with NO INTERUPTION and a 15 question answer session. Then move to the next subject such as the flight. The finding of the money, The location of the money, This is going to be last yr to make this happen. Some people will feel left out, but they have to understand why they have been left out. I believe Tina will come for me if her sister and brother in law is with them.' I have 3 witnesses in the area who would come for me - we are all gettin old and next yr we won't all be here. We will take bus tours to places of interest to all and if someone will provide the plane - a trip that simulates the actual route which will be decided by the co- pilot from his memories. We will have an actual jump be made from the plane with simulated packages and equipment. Then HOW long the man on the ground can avoid the ground crews. We will all be looking for him - so where does he go. Each piece of this has to be seriouos so we will actually know the reactions if you are in the position they were in in 1971. One might find it strange that Tina lived about 9 miles from the money find in Gresham. Was there a change he home was paid a visit that same day when Duane and I went to WA . Remembe rhe knew where she was and what she was doing - is that were he disappearded to for part of that 5 plus 1/2 missing hours. Was her apt broke into and was she missing something as simple as cookbook with picture in it for a marker. If we don't have this this yr we will never have it. We will go all the way to Eugene to finishing the project. For those unable to pay their way was will have to make arrangemens.. It is my idea and I have the fartherest to come. Just a thouht. We ciould have Cooper flags every where -in Wa. AS a group we go and we aske questions of the citiczine - what do they think about his. The internet has allowed not only the public, but anyone with a reason to alter the image of Cooper - to promote a subject or if the FBI themselves have ACTUALLY participated in this - to further bury the truths. Should it be the latter - then the rumors of CIA or covert actions would seem pausible. If the FBI is NOT sanctioning the new composite - they should be able to have them taken off of the internet! One was supposedly done recently - and I expect Marla Cooper was behind this one! THERE should be a law against things like this! TSK TSK! You actually believe my post required an answer from you or that you send the FBI a private message? You REALLY think they even want to talk to you? Well, guess again! You are not a moderator for the FBI and the Cooper Story nor are you the person to go to for answers! My statement was simple and forthright, It required NO reply from you or anyone else.
