Anyone know about back injuries and using these backbelt things?
willard replied to Twoply's topic in The Bonfire
OSHA required us to have them available for employees, but the choice to use or not was left up to each individual. They are great for rehab after an injury but can lead to further injury if misused. Extended use can lead to loss of strength and stability in the core muscles (abs and lower back). Injury occurs when someone who is used to wearing the brace attempts to lift without wearing one. Go ahead and use it to help with your recovery, but be careful when you resume normal work without it. Have to give your muscles time to get back in shape. -
You mean all those people told Rove to delete his e-mails? Wow. Impressive. I'm confused. On one hand the Lib-Dems claim that somehow the Bush administration is so smart they can craft a war, get other nations involved in it, make lots of money, etc. But then, on the other hand, they claim these same people are so stupid that they delete e-mails in an intentional attempt to cover their tracks and don't know that those same e-mails can be retrieved and/or are copied? I wish they would make up their minds!

That's just silly. There is no such thing as an ugly baby.

Uhh....because you tend to disbelieve anything a republican says? Isn't it convenient? Like Nixon's missing 18 minutes of tape. Sure is. But convenient doesn't always mean intentional. But to some people they are one and the same.

He wasn't even breaking a law. (Mr. Bookman from Seinfeld was not there!) A cop telling you to leave is not the law. It's just some dickhead with a taser and a gun telling you to leave the library. Unless he is acting to enforce the law, his actions are not justified. There have been several cases of peaceful, non-threatening resistance where the police responded with tasers and/or pepper spray, and they LOST the lawsuits. Just google 'q-tip pepper spray' - a case of police swabbing pepper spray directly into the eyeballs of peaceful protestors and then spraying them inches from their eyes. Yes, the cops lost. Less lethal can be good, but the potential for abuse is huge. How do you know he wasn't breaking the law? If he was asked to leave (for whatever reason) and refused while making a scene then he was engaged in disorderly conduct. We don't know for sure what happened before the camera was turned on.
-
Unless he was being placed under arrest the taser use is not justified, especially to remove a student from a library. They should tie that campus cop down and taser his nutsack for a few hours. Maybe he was being placed under arrest (disorderly conduct for refusing to leave when asked?)? We don't know. At least, I don't know. You are right, though, that unless he was resisting arest he shouldn't have been tasered. Unless he asked to be.

And since der gestapo errr I mean Law Compliance Officer is always right in this country.. thou shalt not deviate in the slightest to ANYTHING they tell you????? You are well indoctrinated I see. Since when have cops always been right? I never said they were. I also never said you were required to comply with everything a cop tells you to do under all circumstances. Those situations under which you are required BY LAW to comply with an officers directions are spelled out in civil code. You are welcome to look them up if you wish. In fact, I suggest you do before you start cutting on me and suggesting I am in some way a mindless puppet.

Since the struggle isn't in clear view in the video, it is impossible to say why they chose to taser. Maybe he was striking at them. Maybe he was trying to bite. Maybe he was doing nothing but laying there like a wet noodle. I can't see how anyone, myself included, can draw any conclusions from this vid.

I'm not about to touch on the premise of that film, but can anyone tell me how life began on this planet? What's the consensus in the scientific community? Life began on Earth by the FSM spreading peanut butter all over Cleveland in a very precise layer.

It can be difficult to stand after you have just been tasered. Cops using Gestapo torture tactics when they could easily 'cuff em and stuff em' is the kind of thing that makes me dislike cops. For the most part, cops are useless to me. They are never there to prevent REAL crime, and when they do show up, it's for this kind of useless bullshit, or speeding tickets, or to arrest someone for smoking a joint. I have a gun and know how to use it, and I am not a criminal, so for me, cops provide nothing. [puts on flame resistant shiny fire suit} The kid was coherent enough to refuse to cooperate and call for others to join his little "protest". This went on for several minutes , more than enough time for him to be able to stand. Comparing this incident to anything the Gestapo would have done would show it to be pretty tame. The Gestapo would have brought him to his feet by wrapping a small cord or wire around his neck and using much as a dog leash. Regardless of whether the kid was being singled out, thought he was in the right, etc., everything that took place was a direct result of choices he made. I feel certain the cops would have preferred he had just left peacefully. Nobody likes paperwork, especially having to convince others they were justified in their actions.

Stand up or get tasered. Hmmm....I think I'd stand up. Only a dumbass would choose not to. In this country when a police officer is giving you a lawful order you are required to comply even if you disagree with it. You'll have your chance to speak later. I'd say the cops did very well to keep the situation under some sort of control. The only thing disgusting I saw in the vid was the kid acting like a spoiled brat.

Don't cut them so short. They've done a great job of helping to kill tens of thousands of people needlessly. And better yet, they've even made it profitable! As if Democrats walk around with halos above their heads.

I feel sorry for the Repubs. As hard as they try, they just can't seem to do anything to equal Kennedy murdering his girlfriend. Oh.....Clinton got a BJ!
