  1. Hey Guys, So I work for a small production house and advertising agency in Cincinnati called Killerspots. Recently we submitted several commercials for some advertising awards from a recent campaign we have been working on. One of these spots is up for The People's Telly Awards. Winning this award would really mean a lot and give us a lot of local and national recognition. If you have a moment I would like to ask that you please click on the link below and vote this commercial. http://www.youtube.com/tellyawards?x=KSQWGbsDZs8 Thanks! 3. I agree. I have got flowers and gifts for women in the past but i dont do that anymore and i tell them upfront. That doesnt mean i dont ever send flowers or anything...just not for this holiday. A few years ago some friends and I started a tradition. We rent a giant chalet in Gatlinburg TN for the weekend around Vday. We always gett he place for dirt cheap since its the dead of winter but its a blast. Nice new "cabins" with 4-5 master beds, jacuzzis, fireplaces, hot tub, pool table, the works. It ends up being a couples weekend retreat. This way it's more of a gift for both of us and its something we are doing together that is a lot of fun, relaxing, and cheap. Although the women seem to keep changing every year we always have a great time. 4. Not sure what part of WV you are in but Larry Lemaster owns Tri-State Skydiving and it is very close to Huntington, WV even though its in Ohio. "If this post needs to be moderated I would prefer it to be completly removed and not edited and butchered into a disney movie" - DorkZone Hero
  5. I think that's prob the best answer Paul. Better to do it upstairs. I guess what i have a problem with is people considering/attempting to do it on final. 6. I see where you are coming from pops and labrys, i think we just have different opinions on priorities for obstacle avoidance. As Bill mentioned, i believe too that someone needs to be focusing on missing the object in the first place instead of worrying about the RSL. I understand the need for a backup plan, but in this particular scenario i feel worry about the backup could interfere with the goal of the main plan first. (Not hitting the object.) What I meant by "too low" is exactly that, too low. If someone where coming in and it looks like they are going to land on a large hanger then they obviously need to steer away. At 500ft, even a turn of 45 degrees could avoid VERY large obstacles. So, my point is someone would have to be VERY low to realize they cant avoid an object. At that point, i feel, the main concern should be ONLY on surviving the initial landing. 7. If you think I am wrong then help me understand. (I mean that sincerely and not with malice, i am always looking to learn.) The way I see it...someone wont know they are going to land on an obstacle until they are VERY low. If they realize before this point, then they should turn. If it does come down to it, and avoiding the object is impossible, then they should be so low or close to the object that all they should be focusing on is touching down. 8. Point still stands....if you have the time to disconnect your RSL then you have time to maneuver away from the obstacle. The only time i can see where this wouldnt be true would be a water landing. 9. Anything is possible, and at some point in time anything that is possible will inevitably happen. However just because it can happen doesn't mean it is probable. I am more confused by the recommendation of disconnecting the RSL in the air upon realization that someone will be landing on or near an obstacle. If you have time to drop your toggles, disconnect your RSL, then pick up your toggles again and land then there is no excuse for not being able to avoid the obstacle in the first place. 11. A centrifuge is simply stress, if you want to be profoundly f'ed up, take a spin in the chair or the gimbal rig. http://humansystems.arc.nasa.gov/groups/psychophysio/images/specialchair.gif http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofp_IM-vNyI I spent about 5 minutes in a gimbal rig once and wasn't well for hours afterward. Oh i have, in Huntsville in fact. Back when I was a kid I went on a school trip down there for a few days. We hit a lot of the simulators and activities for both Space Camp and Aviation Challenge camp. The Gimbal rig (didnt know thats what it was called) was alright but my fav was the two person centrifuge at Aviation Challenge. They cranked it up to 3.5 G's and i was loving every minute of it. It was a blast...too bad they dont have a program like that for 25 year olds "If this post needs to be moderated I would prefer it to be completly removed and not edited and butchered into a disney movie" - DorkZone Hero
  12. Drink a bunch of the $5 pints then go for a spin in the centrifuge "If this post needs to be moderated I would prefer it to be completly removed and not edited and butchered into a disney movie" - DorkZone Hero
  13. Darius' title seems to so imply. Did you even watch the video? "Mr Way to Proud of Texas Guy" is the name of the commercial/promo. Any idea or comment that his post was about you (as your link to the rule about targeting an individual indicates) then you came up with that all on your own. Some would call this a guilty conscience "If this post needs to be moderated I would prefer it to be completly removed and not edited and butchered into a disney movie" - DorkZone Hero
  14. Rest assured Darius i found it hysterical. I used to travel to Texas between every other week and every third week and found Texas pride to be amusing. You could make ANY statement...i mean ANYTHING...and someone would somehow find a way to make it about Texas and top it. "Wow this steak is good" "Of course it is it's from Texas" "Wow gas is getting expensive" "Good thing it's always cheaper in Texas" "Damn that girl is hot!" "Not as hot at the ones in Texas!" "Once a month you will bleed from your vagina" "Mmm, nothin in the world like menstrual blood from Texas!" 16. It can be done and a lot of people have done so. Of course a lot of people have also been really hurt, killed, and torn up their pretty gear trying to do so. I am a firm believer in using the right tool for the right job. There are plenty of PG and speed wings out there. Not to be the dorkzone police or anything because i hate all the super safety nuts on here but keep in mind most people dont realize how dangerous ground launching can be. Your essentially proximity flying under canopy. Which means you will be maneuvering very close to the ground and possibly other obstacles. 22. Has anyone ever witnessed or experienced school administrators fueling the fire? At my second high school (family moved due to job relocation) it was REALLY bad. Every school has polotics but this was ridiculous. Teachers played favorites among students and so did administrators, admins played favs with teachers, coaches played favs, school BOD played favs, and then of course you have your tight parental groups whose loud barking causes favorites. It was silly. Students knew it, teachers knew it, admins knew it, and parents knew it. Instead of trying to change it though instead everyone competed for position to either be the favorite, support the favorite, or make their student/teacher/coach the new pick. This contributed to bullying, especially among the girls at my school, BIG TIME. There were a group of girls that could do WHATEVER THEY WANTED. It was ridiculous. They had half of the staff kissing their ass because they wanted to be the "cool teachers" that connected with the students and the other half of the staff was scared of them. This allowed the girls to do and say whatever they wanted whenever they wanted. These girls were essentially untouchable. They would write profanities on people's lockers, use lighter fluid to burn words about other people in the school lawn, use shaving cream to say nasty things about people. Use eggs, shaving cream, lotion, post it notes, and whatever else they could get their hands on to vandalize people's cars. And this was all BEFORE the online social networking phenom. I cant believe some of the stories my younger sister has told me involving online bullying. I guess the point I am trying to make is that everytime something like this happens everyone always asked "What could be have done to prevent it?" Well, maybe people should be asking "What did we do to cause this?" 23. Was there any pain? Are you sure it was a hang up in your arm or could it have been gear as Dave already suggested could have been the issues too. If it was your arm you might want to figure out what caused it in case it happens again or more importantly to prevent it from happening. As Dave already mentioned low turns are already dangerous and can be fatal even without the possibility of a locked up joint. What you described has only happened to me once but it was in my leg (knee) after spending half an hour on my knees packing up a rig. I went to stand up and my right leg simply stopped extending, when i realized this i forced it which caused immediate and intense pain followed by a few days of soreness. The big thing is to find out what caused it regardless of whether its an equipment issue or a gear issue. If you have to landing in half brakes in MUCH better than landing with one toggle higher than the other.
