  1. Another asshat convicted of lying to federal prosecutors and impeding a federal investigation. I hope there is a very special cell for americans who commit crimes against America. He can. What he can't do is intentionally bypass the confirmation process and then lie to congress about it. They tend to get pissy when that happens. I'm amazed how people don't get that.
  2. I think it applies because the UK is a party to an armed conflict, and this is a kidnapping of service personnel. I believe that is how it applies, considering that the UK is there as a party to an on-going armed conflict, as well as being in internatinal waters; the kidnapping could easily be construed as an overt act of war. Here is something for you to consider: You can't honestly expect someone to extend you a courtesy that you have obviously not extended to them. I realize this is US and not UK, but the UK was the number 2 in the whole fuck up and they have had their own prisoner torture issues. Unfortunately, the shoe is now on the other foot. Thankfully, it is just a handful of men/woman and not tens of thousands.
  3. The mission the military as a whole was tasked with was going into Iraq to overthrow the regime and prevent the imminent attack of the US with weapons of mass destruction. The regime is overthrown, tried, and hanged. The WMDs didn't even exist. How many times does the president need to land on an aircraft carrier and declare the end of military operations under the MISSION ACCOMPLISHED banner before we begin to understand that the military did its job - long ago. The military is not an organization that should be deployed for nation building. They are the ones suffering the abhorent decision making of the administration. They did what they were sent to do long ago. Its time to bring them home. Immediately.
  4. Can you elaborate on this part? That thought hadn't occurred to me. Blues, Dave The US and its little brother are in no position to be parading around the Geneva Conventions after we publicly stated that we weren't going to follow them. I think the guy who said that is in the news right now also.
  5. Its the manifestation not of what Jeff Gordon is, but what he is not. - He is not from the south = bad - He is from California = even worse - He does not have a southern accent - His car had a rainbow painted on it for years (Dupont is the sponsor) - His wives are too hot and his car is too fast - He became a car owner and hired a guy from southern California Basically, he is viewed as an outsider. This outsider has been one of the best of all time and people hate him for it. Its similar to how the French feel about Lance Armstrong. People don't like it when you come and kick the crap out of them in their own race. Jimmie - went to Granite Hills HS in El Cajon with Brian and Marcus Giles (both play for the San Diego Padres)
  6. Dude is right handed and excited. She's not a dude. Person is right handed and excited?
  7. Dude is right handed and excited.
  8. You travel across the ocean to visit the US of A and you go to ........ Ohio??????? Good luck with the cow tipping.
  9. My wife's comment: Who is that dipshit? Me: That is the US ambassador to the UN. Her: That idiot is an ambassador? How embarrasing. Me: Make that item # 2648642 on the list.
  10. Absolutely wrong. They are supposed to be confirmed by the senate. These US attorneys are being replaced and not being subject to senate confirmation by using a provision in the Patriot Act. That is the problem completely. If they really deserved to be fired, they could have just done so for cause and gone through the process of confirming a replacement. They chose not to do so. Why? Because they were not firing for cause, but for politics.
  11. Although I really disagree with the bolded part, I will give you a hearty "Mission Accomplished" on the rest. Doing a heck of a job, Bill!
  12. 94-2. If you can't get your head around the fact that there is a problem and not just a party line vote, you may as well get that elephant tattoo on your ass. Ali G is not going to see the end of the month as AG and very deservedly so.
  13. If Ali G had been an otherwise decent AG and the administration hadn't been an absolute embarrassment, I think the political capital necessary to pull off the firings would have been there. In this case, not so much.
  14. Seems to be about a four year appointment with a mass turnover with administrations - all new appointments subject to senate approval. Problem here is prosecutors are being replaced purely for political reasons and without senate approval. I guess they're pretty pissed they got left out as evidenced by the 94-2 vote. Pretty hypocritical for them to cry about judicial activism and then do this. Instead of legislating from the bench, they legislate from the bar (or fire you if you don't comply). Pretty crappy all in all, but Al G. has done far, far, far worse. If this takes him away, its a good end.
  15. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/fired_prosecutors I'm not sure if I'm more surprised about how quick this is happening or how lopsided the vote is.
  16. Nice. Now he's put the ball in Bush's court. A brief summary of his record: - Geneva Conventions outdated and need not be followed - Authorized use of interrogation tactics expressly forbid in Geneva Conventions - Illegal domestic wiretapping - Illegally and improperly used the Patriot Act to spy on Americans - Orchestrated the firing of US district attorneys based on their support of the administration Response from the president: "He's a standup guy" Unbelievable. And Americans wonder why our image in the world is so tarnished.
  17. Didn't mean to imply anything about you in particular, just people in general when I replied to your post. We're getting off topic here, but this goes to the heart of why guys like Rush are enormously successful and guys like Franken are flops. Rush is an entertainer, period. He knows and embraces this. He says things that are so ridiculous, there is no way he could ever believe it, but still people listen. They listen even if they disagree with him, because he is a good entertainer. He did a bit with a phony Bill Clinton leaving him a voice mail that was one of the funniest 5 minutes of radio ever. Franken, on the other hand actually believes most of what he says. That just makes him an annoying guy with a radio show - I'm assuming he's still on.
  18. That pretty much says it all. I dont understand the point your trying to make. That the guy is an entertainer. Nothing more, nothing less. That people think what he says has even a sliver of credibility is laughable. He says what sells, comes up with some catchy phrases and hits the cash register. Ditto head, secular progressive, neo con, etc. - pay the man. edit: add Righteous Protectorate to the list too.
  19. He advocates overturning Roe v. Wade (someone will correct me with lightning speed if I'm wrong here). I would consider that dangerous. On the other side of the coin, that George person may advocate gun control to the extreme. I would consider that dangerous. Of course, listening to crazies argue is certainly going to sell a lot more books than listening to reasonable poeple debate.
  20. Interesting. Had to look it up because I'd never heard of it before and: "No such organization exists". Just a guess, but I think if you use some hot-button terms like fascist and moral erosion and go on to say that people who don't agree with you are trying to legislate values (which is actually what you are doing), you will probably sell a lot more books than by saying something along the lines of: we should strive to understand each other and have open and honest discourse that allows us to easily reach solutions in regards to our differences.
  21. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070313/ap_on_go_co/congress_prosecutors Seems to be getting more interesting by the day.
