Kris, Your ideal job is a Stunt Person.

Notice that the biggest Cobalt is 150 in production. Your Space might have the same airfoil. Man you are annoying. Really. REALLY. if you want to trade links, then here's one from Square1 specifying 170 size: http://www.square1.com/manufacturers/square1/p1133.asp and FAQ from Atair specifying a 170 size http://www.atairaerodynamics.com/FAQ.html The Space IS A COBALT made by Atair FOR SkyDepot. There are threads on this very website stating what the difference are. atair's website is so far out of date, that I would take any information available regarding their canopies with a grain of salt. I've heard on numerous occasions that the cobalt and comp. cobalt are no longer in production, and there isn't even a tidbit of information available online from them regarding any of their BASE canopies.

what was I thinking! 0:2:0.. not too much going on.

I also got in 2 jumps at SDH this weekend. Did a little 2-way belly level control jump and then did a 5-way horny gorilla. With the landing area being a little wet.., I decided to quit while I was still dry and go watch some football.

You want to time the canopy recovery (planing out) as close as possible, but you would use your rear risers to make the small adjustments and change the angle of attack to ride the swoop out further. Using your brakes distorts the canopy and causes a ton of drag (lots of speed loss) I highly recommend you doing alot more reading on the subject. Brian Germain's The Parachute and its Pilot is an excellent source for learning the fundamental theories behind canopy flight. You REALLY need to understand a great bit of canopy control methods before trying any high performance landings. It is VERY easy to stall out your canopy with the rear risers.

if you're too close to the ground, you're not going to ride out anything except the ambulance. If you are low, by all means, get on the toggles and abort the swoop... that should be an essential part of your canopy training.

Atair Cobalt 135

I usually either eat it sliced up and cold on a sandwich with miracle whip or mustard... sometimes if i've got the time/desire I will fry the slices of spam before I put it on the bread and make it a hot sandwich. SPAM is good stuff

cookie composites makes some nice small helmets as well. My head measures ~21.5 and I wear a small... I also have a medium oxygn but haven't worn it in the air yet... it's definately a bit looser than the cookie is though. I'd really love to try on a small oxygn to compare.

as long as it was cared for properly and not heavily abused, the canopy being 10 years old is no problem. There are still alot of airworthy canopies around and being jumped that are 10+ years old. My cobalt is a 98 or 99, about 400-450 jumps on it with the original lineset, still in great condition... A sabre 150 that I had was a 93 and it was also still in great condition (it had a new lineset though)

agreed. Solid colors for reserves, multiple colors (at least 1 cell or a logo) for mains. I like really bright colored reserves... yellow, pink, orange, etc... but alot of them are white or blue also... White and blue can be hard to see against the sky from the ground and on-level in the air (dependant on conditions), but jumpers above can see them both pretty well against the ground. I'm always looking for a trailing pilot chute when I see solid colored canopies.

You'll probably end up wearing more than 10lbs of weights for some dives... I wear 12-15 the majority of the time, was wearing 18 doing 4-way (and still needed 3-4 more pounds), and i've worn 22-23 on hop&pops.... and you're floatier than I am.

What excuse do you use to get out of going to the gym?
kris2extreme replied to Evelyn's topic in The Bonfire
my normal excuse is that it's a 20+ minute headache of a drive. My excuse this week is that it is cold as all getup and i'm not venturing outside. -
shoot. The closest I got to being outside today was looking out the window... and even THAT was cold!

Anyone ever snapped 18 out 20 lines ?
kris2extreme replied to ArnoSchutte's topic in Gear and Rigging
That'd be my guess as well, just too wierd for all the lines to break in the same spot not near a fingertrap/bartack/etc. FWIW. When I had my baglock that I recovered in a manner similar to you (baglock stood me up, I reached up, grabbed the risers and jerked them down), I didn't have a hard opening (and that was on an original sabre!). From my findings of two adjacent broken rubber band stows on the bag, I concluded that the stowed lines had wrapped around the stow above it and locked the lines together... then when i yanked down it broke both of those rubber bands. Line twists out the wazoo though. -
it's DAMNED cold out. I like texas because it's the south and it's supposed to be warm! I did not even make it outside of the house today. The cold air from the refrigerator was plenty for me... I need to go food shopping tomorrow and get a haircut... but there's a HIGH probability it won't be happening

My neptune records pretty closely to when i'm in the saddle.

0:0:0 Clouds and rain yesterday. Overcast at 100ft today.

and here is mine. I think it's the same black/charcoal/navy or royal blue... just in a different color scheme. Mine looks a little pregnant. I guess thats what happens when you stuff a 135 cobalt in a container only meant to hold a 120.

New AFF students take a look...
kris2extreme replied to floridadiver81's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
that is just the first of many misc bruises, scratches, scrapes, cuts, and bumps you will receive from skydiving... most of them you won't find until days later and have absolutely no clue where they came from. sore muscles are fun too. It builds character -
Cool Balloon Jump Video
kris2extreme replied to adventurechick's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
it's for collapsing the slider to reduce drag and get rid of the annoying popping in the wind that it likes to do. -
Did you have to repeat any AFF levels?
kris2extreme replied to daniel52587's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The closest ones to you are in Denver, Orlando, and Arizona. -

kris2extreme replied to daniel52587's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I repeated level 3 due to poor leg position resulting in a circular backslide. There's nothing wrong with repeating levels as long as you are learning from your mistakes and working to correct them. -
I don't. Alot of people seem to do it because they bring the food out to you. I generally reserve tipping for people who are actually working on a waiter-wages (here it is ~$2.13/hr) and are truly working for their tips. Sonic employees make minimum wage or better... if they want more money, get a different job.
