  1. This is one of my all time favorites.
  2. This part of your post really bothers me. A very importanct concept in this sport is wing loading. It is the ratio of your total weight with gear to the size of the canopy. There have been numerous injuries and some deaths because people did not have the proper size canopy for their skill level. Yes...the main concern is that the equipment would malfunction (meaning important stuff could break causing you to plummet to your death) if you go beyond the weight limit. The weight limits are there for a reason. You would also be surprised by the number of people who consider themselves to be in good shape but still get hurt. Just this past summer I saw a very experienced skydiver (somewhere around 2000 jumps), who normally makes high performance landings, hurt his knee to the point of needing surgery doing the most subdued landing I had ever seen him make. Two summers ago I saw another experience skydiver break his ankle because his foot found a hole in the ground when he landed. I don't like bringing up stuff like this to a newbie but cockyness does not belong in this sport. It is the people who believe that they can't/won't get hurt that make up the largest percentage of injuries/fatalities. I hate to be the berrer of bad news but you need to realize that we have all this regulations and restrictions for your own safety.
  3. WARNING...person with low numbers speaking...take it for what you want and please correct me if I'm wrong. Unfortunately weight restrictions are strictly enforced. It's strictly for safety purposes. The equipment is only made to handle so much force. And these restrictions are enforced by the FAA. (This sport is much more regulated by the FAA then people outside of the sport know.) You will be hard pressed to find a dz with the correct equipment for you. I doubt you would be allowed to jump a tandem parachute. Those rigs are very different from your everyday rig. You have to have a special rating (which requires 500 jumps to get) before you're even allowed to jump one by yourself let alone with someone attached to you. There may be a place out there that would have what you need but I don't personally know of any. I don't mean to be a downer. Trust me, in this sport it is NOT one size fits all. There are no 2 systems EXACTLY alike. I know that I myself had to buy a made-for-me rig because I couldn't find a used one that would even come close to fitting me. And at the time I got it I weighed just under 200lbs. Once again...I hate to be a downer but that is what I know.
  4. A) It's Friday B) I'm at Work C) Even if I wasn't at work see my other thread about possibly having strep. Please have an extra drink for those like me who are unable to drink at this time.
  5. It's about damn time!!!!
  6. Hey now...I happen to enjoy foreplay. I've found that sometimes foreplay is much better then the sex itself. But then again, I enjoy being a tease and being teased. So that could have something to do with it.
  7. That would be good and all but if I used sign language no one would know where the emergency is.
  8. I have started drinking more water despite how much it hurts. Unfortunately there is no salt here and I did a search and there aren't any urgent care facilities within 50 miles of here. Usually I'll chit-chat with the people I'm working with. There's none of that going on tonight. I think they laugh at me everytime I talk on the radio. I keep wondering if they can actually understand what I'm saying.
  9. So, I've been fighting this cold thing for almost 2 weeks now. For the last several days I've felt fine. The only symptoms I've had is at work my voice tends to get scratchy. I've just attributed that to the fact that I talk alot at work (I've been dispatching lately) and the incredibly dry heat at work. Well, this evening I've all but lost my voice (makes it real fun trying to talk on the radio) and it feels like I have 2 giant grapefruit in my throat. I can barely swallow anything. I have yet to go to a dr. only because my insurance coverage just kicked in on the 1st of April. I'm stuck at work till 7am tomorrow (working a double). Is there anything I can do for it while at work tonight? Or am I screwed until I'm able to go to the ER tomorow morning? (Only going to the ER cause I've learned in the past there's no going to my dr. without an appoinment made 2 weeks in advance.)
  10. I had to watch it twice before I finally saw the damn bear.

  15. Everyday I work I ask the pilot to take me for a ride. I even tell them I have my own way of getting to the ground. They just keep telling me no.
  16. For those who don't remember I had spoken before about STATMedEvac setting up a new base here in town. They are currently staying at the ambulance service I work at until their new place is built. This means we have a pretty helicopter sitting on our parking lot.
