  1. As of right now I'm mainly a dispatcher (having gotten my EMT cert I should start training on that soon). They don't really like putting dispatchers on 16's let alone 24's. Mostly because you're stuck in that one little room whereas emt's and medic's can at least go out so long as nothing is going on. So right now I'm mostly working 8 hour shifts. Unfortunately this is a place that likes you to be available at all times. For the most part we have enough staff but there are days when they need people to come in last minute just because we're so busy with emergencies or taking people down to Pittsburgh (the hospital in town is crap...it doesn't even have an orthopedic surgeon). I guess I'll just have to talk to them and see what they say. I mean I don't expect to be off EVERY weekend during the summer, but most would be nice.
  2. So I'm in a bit of a dilemma right now. My finances are looking like shit at the moment. I've been putting off finding a 2nd job because I knew the jumping season would be starting soon and I'd be able to make some decent money packing and doing odd jobs around the dz. The issue comes in that where I work, full-time employees aren't allowed to put in availability. (I work in EMS so it's a 24/7 job, hours can get pretty weird sometimes.) So I can't say that I need evenings and weekends off. But I really need to be able to work at the dz at least somewhat regularly so I can make some money. I don't want to risk them cutting me back to part-time at work because I need to be full-time during the winter and also so that I'll have insurance. How would you go about talking to your boss about this?
  3. Wesley Snipes, Tom Barringer, can't think of the 3rd
  4. So it's becoming increasingly hard to decide what songs to take off of my ipod so that I can put new ones on. I've decided that (although I shouldn't because my finances suck at the moment) I'm going to start looking into a new MP3 player. I don't need the ability to play videos, take pictures, any of that crap. (I think the screens are to small to watch videos on. I would think it would hurt my eyes.) But one thing that I do really like about my ipod is that it tells me the name of the song and artist and I can easily scroll through them and even attach ratings to them and such WHILE listening to it. Right now I have a 4GB...hoping to go 8GB or bigger (depending on prices). Any suggestions? Thanks
  5. Thank you for reminding me of my love of Carlos Mencia. That man is absolutely hysterical.
  6. Thank you. Though I was not directly involved in the whole situation, I didn't sleep much because I was worried about my coworkers. I can't even begin to image what they're going through right now. Most of the people I work with are involved with the volunteer fire departments. The mood at work was deffinately a somber one yesterday.
  7. The really sad thing was had she taken the time to look she would've seen that her dog had run out the back door to a neighbors yard. Though I do feel weary about commenting on what people do in those situations. You know how you would like to to think you'd act in that situation but you never truly know until you're actually in that situation.
  8. not for me but for people I work with. To say it was an emotional day is an understatement. It all started at 6am with a fully involved house fire. A woman ran back into the house to save her dog. She ended up perishing in the fire. Meanwhile 2 firefighters ran into the house hoping to save her. When they got up to the 2nd floor there was a flash and they were both knocked out. The one firefighter was taken to the hospital, treated and released. The other...well...he is the brother of one of the guys I work with. He was flown down to a burn center in Pittsburgh with 2nd degree burns on over 50% of his body. After several hours of surgery we got a report that he would probably make it but might lose all his fingers. Well, we just got another update that they ended up having to cut his stomach open to relieve the pressure and at this point it's not looking good. On top of that, during the fire, we had to take the guy I work with's grandfather from a nursing home to the hospital in respiratory distress. Later in the afternoon we got word that he passed away. So in 1 day a guy I work with lost his grandfather and very well could lose his brother. As if all that wasn't enough, found out today that another person I work with had to put her teenage son on suicide watch last night. Needless to say it was a VERY emotional day. So please...vibes to those I work with would be greatly appreciated. For an official article on the fire go to http://www.wpxi.com/news/15447327/detail.html The pictures say it all.
  9. I know this topic has been discussed many times before. I was actually just looking through some of the past threads. I currently have a pair of Bobster Cruizer goggles with the interchangeable lenses. They worked just fine until I start playing around with doing head down. When I did that they had a tendency to flip down a bit and I'd lose a contact. I would love to have some goggles that are very similar to regular sunglasses. (you know...the whole 2 for the price of 1 thing) However, it tends to be hard to find sunglasses that fit my head. Is there any way I could try different kinds of goggles/sunglasses without having to constantly buy and return them?
  10. I wanna play!! Can I play with all the cool people?
  11. The DZ is about 8 miles from where I live. If I get desperate enough I'll ride my bike there. (And no I don't mean motorcycle, I mean on of those things you actually have to use muscles to use.)
  12. Thanks for the advice. Who cares if I haven't jumped since early Novemeber. My next jump I'm gonna have to give that a try. I'll deffinately be sure to let you know how it turns out.
  13. Jack wakes up with a huge hangover after attending his company's Christmas Party. He didn't even remember how he got home from the party. As bad as he was feeling, he wondered if he did something wrong. Jack had to force himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he saw is a couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table. And, next to them, a single red rose! Jack sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed. He looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotlessly clean. So is the rest of the house. He takes the aspirins, cringes when he sees a huge black eye staring back at him in the bathroom mirror. Then he notices a note hanging on the corner of the mirror written in red with little hearts on it and a kiss mark from his wife in lipstick: "Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to get groceries to make you your favorite dinner tonight. I love you, darling! Love, Jillian . "He stumbles to the kitchen and sure enough, there is hot breakfast, steaming hot coffee and the morning newspaper. His son is also at the table, eating. Jack asks,"Son... what happened last night?" "Well, you came home after 3 A.M., drunk and out of your mind. You fell over the coffee table and broke it, and then you puked in the hallway, and got that black eye when you ran into the door."Confused, he asked his son, "So, why is everything in such perfect order and so clean? I have a rose, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me?? "His son replies, "Oh THAT!... Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your pants off, you screamed,"LEAVE ME ALONE BITCH, I'M MARRIED!!" Broken Coffee Table $239.99 Hot Breakfast $4.20 Two Aspirins $.38 Saying the right thing at the right time......PRICELESS!!
  14. Thank you for the clarification. Being as I only have 87 jumps I haven't even begun to ask question about how to swoop yet. Though I would like to try it one day I know I'm no where near ready yet.
  15. Here's my question...maybe it's just low numbers speaking....but with that canopy would he even have to do a swoop setup? I would think with it being that small and moving at the speed it does he would basically be doing a swoop landing no matter what. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  16. Yep...it was me who did it...now what biyatch?
  17. I think a man who is willing to hold a woman's purse for her is incredibly attractive. When I see that I get jealous.
  18. HA...a moderator is guilty of reposting. This is just too funny. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3134600;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread
  19. I think I was reading it as how much you SPEND on gas. Meaning if you have to fill it up 3x a week that's gonna be a much larger percentage than just the cost of filling it up once (which is what I think you're asking now). Am I starting to get on the right track? And can you see where the confusion came in on my end?
  20. I know my jump numbers are few but I spent the last half of last summer packing. For the most part I find pro packing to take a hell of alot less time then flat packing. Now when it comes to a much bigger canopy (say my 230 or a tandem) sometimes flat packing is easier just because there's so much fabric. But the one guy I packed for most of last summer had a 97 and i couldn't imagine flat packing that thing just cause it's so little. Part of it is also personal preference. This is all IMHO. Take it for what it is.
  21. I would think it would have an effect. I mean if I used more gas then the amount I would have to put in would increase therefore I would spend more and the percentage of my pay that I spend on gas would increase. Or is my lack of sleep totally screwing up how I'm interpreting your question?
