  1. I have the magnetic rise covers as well. I've only started freeflying so I'm sure you can imagine it's not the prettiest thing you've ever seen. However, even when tumbling through the sky I haven't had any problems with them coming open (even when I've accidentally gone head down).
  2. I'm not trying to say I don't feel I should be held responsible for one of my pack jobs. I'm saying shit happens. The first (and only time at this point...knock on wood) I saw something I packed land under a reserve I went running out in a panic. I felt horrible that I put someone through a reserve ride. I later found out it was due to operator error not packer error but until I found that out I was practically in tears. I'm just saying that shit happens and if you're going to tear your packer's head off if they make a mistake then I don't wanna be your packer. I've been known to pack 30 rigs in a day. When you're packing that much you're bound to make an honest mistake at some point. I've already vowed that if I do ever pack someone a malfunction that was my fault I'll by them a case as a way of saying I'm sorry.
  3. That looks very much like a freebag from a reserve to me. It also looks fairly new. Although I couldn't tell you anything more specific about it.
  4. Please let me know if you ever come to the states and where you'll be jumping at. I'm a packer and have hunderds of pack jobs. But...after the comments you just made about packers I want to make sure I never pack for you. You could pay me $100 per pack job and I still wouldn't pack for you.
  5. Well for me it's just a house split up into 4 apartments. And all except the people in the one apartment get along great. We're all the same age and hang out quite often. It's great.
  6. I think you forgot something. And congrats by the way.
  7. Well fortunately there is a small bathroom in this little room.
  8. Or maybe it means that her "O" face was seen 3 times this weekend.
  9. Get on the other side of the radio and you'll understand my adamant concern. There's concern on this side of the radio as well. The other morning I about had a heart attack cause a crew took forever to get in the truck and when they got on scene they discovered that the PT wasn't breathing. Not good. And they wonder why I get pissed if they don't go running to the truck.
  10. Why thank you cheesy. And Dave...I've worked those shifts as well. It does suck. But I also feel that my boss wouldn't be letting me do this if he didn't have at least some confidence in me. After all...I'm not the one girl who used to work here and would litterally sleep through calls. The one morning I came in and she was so sound asleep that she didn't wake up until I dropped a really big book on the counter right beside her head. I'm a bitch I know.
  11. I understand that I'm just saying smaller per capita fewer calls in general. I can't count the number of times I've worked a 16 hour shift without a single call.
  12. And as I said before I can understand your concern. But also as I've said I work on both sides of the fence. I know what it's like to be dependent on the dispatchers for correct information. I may be joking about this online but I do take my job very seriously. I know people's lives are in my hands (either directly or indirectly). Also keep in mind...I live in the middle of nowhere Pennsyltucky. Not exactly the bustling metropolise of a big city.
  13. Yes...I will be getting overtime for this.
  14. I can understand your concern about my attidude. What you don't see is how when a call comes in I do a complete 180. During the down time (such as now and the past several hours) I try to relax as much as possible. But once the plectron goes off or the phone rings it's all seriousness. I also act a bit goofier online than I am in real life (I mean really...how many people are EXACTLY the same in real life as they are on the internet.) DZ.com is pretty much my only human interaction while I'm in dispatch. The only time there is more than 1 person in dispatch is from 1000 to 1800 Mon thru Fri...the rest of the time you're all by your lonesome. The crews aren't even alowed to come up and chit-chat when there's nothing going on because of past problems. And yes...we are a privately owned service so we may do things a bit differently. But, as I've said before I plan on sleeping/napping after the midnight crew change occures. And I know some people freak out about sleeping on the job. But between my cot being very uncomfortable and my subconscious not letting me fully fall asleep I wake up to not only the phone or plectron going off, but the fax machine has been known to wake me up. If I didn't feel I could safely do this extra shift tonight I would have said no. And dispatchers working 24's are not at all common. As I said in my first post this will be the first time since this place opened in 1996 that a dispatcher has ever worked a 24 hour shift. I don't think they'll be making a habit out of it anytime soon either. My one supervisor is not at all happy that it's happening.
  15. No I own them all i'm just putting them on a small external hard drive so i can travel with Them
  16. Here's a question....why is it ok for EMT's, Paramedics, Firefighters and Police Officers to work 24's but it's not OK for a dispatcher?
  17. I work for an ambulance service so I only deal with EMS. I am also an EMT who works on the ambulance as well so I am fully aware of what they go through. (Much better then simply doing the ride along I actually work on the truck.) Every week I work on both sides of the fence. So I am very well aware of what the crews go through and how they don't want to deal with unncessary risks. I can proudly say I am one of the few dispatchers AND EMT's who knows exactly what it's like to be on either end.
  18. Combination of naps and coffee. Like I said...it's not worse than the EMT's and Medic's I work with who work 24's all the time. It's quite common in this industry. It's not illegal until you cross the 24 hour mark.
  19. BillyVance now has his own personal thread for all of his NSFW thread.
  20. Thank you. And I have been actively looking for a new job...just no luck yet.
  21. So once I found out about my shift at work being extended my number 1 concern was my contacts. I knew that by morning they would be dry as a bone and itchy as all hell. So I called my upstairs neighbor who I share a basement with and she can get access to my apartment to get my glasses and contact stuff. She then took my stuff to the guys on the other side of the house who have a car to bring it do me. Not only did they all do this for me with no questions but they also put together a big tupperware bowl full of homemade chili, a thing of crackers, and some string cheese as a snack for me. I love my neighbors.
