  1. And the plan worked, too. Cool rig...
  2. I've been in similar situations, but with no cameraman. If you're the guy on top you hope to have controlling grips...
  3. Yeah, like NSCSA # 1, that's almost embarrassing...
  4. My favorite line from the movie THE GYPSY MOTHS; "if it rains, we don't jump"...
  5. And behind the Gremlin, an even better ride (the box truck) is Paul McGurr's "Land Otter". It was crashed one night on the DZ while on a takeoff run...
  6. I still have one also, but not as pretty as howard's. Mine is black and white and I used it with a black and white StratoFlyer, so together they looked like big brother and little brother. I found they caught a lot of air, and even used mine on BASE jumps.
  7. That's pretty observant Jerry; I don't think Kevin was much on reserve usage anyway...
  8. A few more OLD OLD OLD Spaceland pics. Recognise anyone...
  9. Here's one from about that time, not sure if it's Z-Hills...
  10. "Holy Shit!!" is right, Tom. That was my first time to Z-Hills Turkeymeet; a nonstop 24 hour a day don't blink or you'll miss it parachute meet. Four teams on each plane and jump runs at about 30 second intervals for hours on end is what I remember. You could see 3 teams in freefall at once; one exiting, one at break off and one in between. I was on the DC-3 that lost an engine right after take off. I was by the door and the pilot yelled to move forward, that he was going around and landing. I hadn't noticed a problem yet and looked out the door and decided it was too low to leave, then looked at the right side to see what I thought was a normal amount of smoke coming off the engine, then finally looked to the left side to see the prop not moving at all. I got moving forward then and we became one real friendly, tight bunch of skydivers...
  11. The rear cargo door came off an otter while on jump run at Spaceland once. It potatoe-chipped down into the field next to the airport. Dave Boatman was some kinda pi$$ed...
  12. I see a lotta' those hot "LL" canopies listed, and peckerhead even jumped the extremely high performance "TU" on his second jump...
  13. Good thread NickDG Here's my page one. I used up three pages in my first month; skydiving was something I could not get enough of. And while I'm lost in the logbook, I included pic two in memory of a couple of the good ones...
  14. Good pic Nick. I remember too, holding my own static line, feeling as if I were holding my own noose. You took a whole month to fill that first page, guess you didn't like the sport much at first LOL...
  15. The jumpsuit looks like the Squirrel Suit???
  16. Hmmmmm, I'm with you; I couldn't wait to get off that crap when I started jumping...
  17. Pulled this pic out of the September '80 Parachutist. This team (airstrike) was well equipped at nationals that year...
  18. Here's another radial engine application that may fly short distances...
  19. I started jumping in 1976 and earned my GW on a BASE jump in 1980. I'll have to dig my number out of the jewelry box where my Wings live...
  20. The lawyer has been on many jumps, and lost many other friends; I think the fact that he is a lawyer is mostly irrelevant...
  21. I agree; it can easily be a waste of your expensive freefall time, if not dangerous...
