Craichead and I saw it in IMAX 3d last night... Absolutely amazing movie. The movie itself was spectacular, the 3d effect made it even better. Overall I was unimpressed with the 3d aspects of the movie, but there were a few select moments that made it all worthwhile. Specifically some of the more adventurous train scenes and the bungee jump... I was similing all the way through, and I do not think its out of line to say this will be a christmas classic for decades to come. If you haven't seen, go. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

How many drinks until you're guaranteed a hangover??
AndyMan replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Unless you're taking it regularly, I wouldn't expect to see much difference. That said, if you've seen ad's on TV for "hangover cures"... (brand names Chaser or Rebound) They're mostly b vitamins. If I'm out drinking I will usually take two Centrum (multi-vitamins) before I go to bed, and again when I wake up. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -

I'm going to guess that you probably take a suplement that includes B vitamin... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
How many drinks until you're guaranteed a hangover??
AndyMan replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Blood sugar is "burned" as part of the process that metabolizes alcohol. If you increase your blood-sugar, you'll effectively increase the rate that the alcohol metabolizes. The effect won't be noticeable in terms of how quickly you sober up, but it will be very noticable in terms of the amount of b vitamins that get depleted during the metabolic process. Low level of b vitamins is the primary cause of hangovers. Higher blood sugar = quicker metabolic procesees = lower b vitamin complex = bigger hangover. How is this relavant? Somebody who really likes to mix with Coke would be well advised to mix with Diet coke instead. Also, there is value in the "low carb" fruity drinks like the Bicardi Silver Low Carb Black Cherry, since "low carb" is inherently"low sugar". Hangovers are made worse by a combination of: (in no particular order) 1) Drinking too much alcohol. 2) High blood sugar (likely caused by sugary drinks) 3) Low b vitamins. 4) Innadequate hydration. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
Absolutely. Not only can any website be designed to be resolution agnostic (within reason), every website SHOULD be designed to be resolution agnostic. As an example, look at www.slashdot.org. Without using any server-side magic, their website looks good in any resolution. Compare and contrast that to www.chicagotribune.com which only looks good if you happen to be setup the way THEY want you to. A well designed website will look half decent in any resolution, without server-side magic. _Am (former webmaster molson.com, littletikes.com, rubbermaid.com...) __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Impossible poll. The degree of hangover is absolutely dependent on the amount of sugar in the drink. _Am (former brewmaster and Molson employee...) __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
I'm looking at buying an Icon. 1) The Icon has a new 3-ring design. Pro: theoritically should reduce cuttaway force. Con: New technology is inheriently unproven. 2) The Icon comes standard with an elastic strap between the legstraps. Pro: Good for sitflying - most freflyers add one on their own. Con: Bad for wingsuits. Wingsuit pilots need to remove it before putting on the suit. 3) The Icon comes standard with the articulated harness. Mirage charges extra. Someone else can comment on the design of their reserve deployment system. Otherwise, the key characteristics are that it appears to be a very thorough design that's currently priced very aggresively. Sounds like a no-brainer to me! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Do the lefties here really want Michael Moore representing them?
AndyMan replied to Muenkel's topic in Speakers Corner
What on earth makes you think he represents anyone? As far as I know, he's just a guy who made a movie that seemed to strike a both a positive and negative chord with a lot of people. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -

That's a really good quote. Why not do what I did? Call up PD, and ask for a demo reserve. They'll send you one on main risers. Then jump it, repeatedly. I even landed mine downwind in 20MPH winds. Intentionally. It was the most fun I've had in ages... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Geeze.. That was quick. You got off easy! Lucky you! I was living in Ottawa when the ice storm came through in 98. Power was out for almost two weeks... Glad you're all right. The real fun starts in the clean-up... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I think you mean "Pita Inn" as the middle-eastern place. It was featured on WTTW's 'Check Please' last week. It's on my list to try if I ever make it up there. Address is 3910 Dempster. Quick review here. Definately good eats up in Skokie... Ya just gotta look for it. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

That's amazing. To give context, people need to remember that Switzerland is land-locked. Those ain't no ocean waves. That body of water is 'Lake Geneva', which is only about 30 miles long, but more importantly at the tip (where the city is) is only a few miles accross. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

It's certainly hit-or-miss between different off-brand lenses. It seems to depend on how old the lenses are. I had the errorr 99 with a Sigma 24mm, but not with my Sigma 15mm. I ended up replacing the Sigma 24mm with a Canon one, because at the time I didn't know Sigma would "re-chip" it. This problem is not restricted to individual bodies.... The symptoms seem to exist on a range of newly released bodies. I actually spotted the problem first with my film Rebel G-II, and later confirmed it on my Digital Rebel. That same lens worked fine with a bunch of older Rebels. Others have reported issues between this same lens and their 10Ds and 20Ds. I suspect that Canon occaisionally tweaks the interface between body and lens, and all new bodies after a certain point will conform to the "newer" standard. 3rd parties like Sigma just aren't in on the standard so they're left guessing... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Craichead and I missed the first season but discovered it this year. We watched it religiously. It has a short season, and the second season is now over. Showtime has replaced it with HUFF, staring Hank Azaria. Its on the same Sunday night slot... Very well written, well acted, well produced. We live by Showtime. They rock. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Where are you? I grew up and (and currently live) in the downtown of major cities. I LOVE the diversity that downtowns offer. That said, I've also spent a huge amount of time working in the 'burbs. I've always been able to find interesting places, even in Schaumberg... Hoffman Estates, etc. I'm currently working in OakBrook. The "worst" of suburban life usually contains the best parts of downtown. You just need to know where to look, and figure out how to manuever through the fields of SUV's and minivans to find it. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Lost Our Jump Plane (not an accident)
AndyMan replied to rushmc's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Oh, we jumped it. 16 loads on Saturday, probably more tomorow. We barely gave the pilot a chance to catch his breath... My favorite was an 8 way, we chunked a 4-way out each side. My one complaint is because I was sharing the "step" on the left side... it needs a bigger step over there! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
A better place to ask would be the photography and video forum. That said, the USPA 'C' license or foriegn equivalent is a good starting point. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
