  1. I think this year I'm going to buy my wife a new iron.... I'm sure she'll be thrilled! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. The newer Phillips machines have been working much better. The primary machine lasted all season, never needed the backup. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  3. ?!?!?!?!? You can kill yourself under ANY canopy. Do not fall into the mistake of thinking you can't seriously get mangled under lighter wingloadings. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  4. I don't see much difference in the base rooms between 3 and 5 star hotels. Both have good sized rooms, are clean and comfortable. The difference that I see between 3 and 5 is the levels of service. At 3 stars, expect to be opening your own doors, send out your own dry cleaning, and maybe not have office space or meeting rooms available 24/7. Obviously things change in the 5 star hotels once you start booking suites or penthouses. I'm sure someone who travels more than I will think differently, though. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  5. By far the best way to get affordable hotels in Chicago is on priceline. Even though most of the hotel and travel websites list prices upwards of $150, I've found I can usually get rates at $50-60 for a 3-star hotel on priceline. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. Does the 20D require the same adapter? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. In the case that spawned this thread, there is testimony by former senior officers that war crimes are commited daily. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. Ooops... my bad. Would it not be the case that a shedding blade would most likely fly itself forward, rather than pierce the cabin anyway? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. Have you also noticed the reinforced fuselage on the exterior of most (all?) Otters for this specific reason? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  10. Funny, because this thread is about someone trying to do that very thing.... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  11. That makes a lot of sense. I never doubted that the 750 would be good sense for Aggieland. When I was down a few years ago there was talk of a Caravan. The 750 makes a lot more sense than a Caravan. My only objection was that the 750 was a good replacement for a 182. This can only be the case if you've got potential business to fill expanded capacity. The 750 is an upgrade path. Alternate upgrade paths include the Caravan and King Air. Which ever path is chosen, going to a larger, faster airplane only makes sense if you're able to grow the business. Many 182 DZ's do not have that ability. The 750XL is not a drop in replacement for aging 182's. It's an upgrade path that allows a 182 DZ with capacity issues to grow. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  12. More importantly, most HDDs will fail at high altitude because of the low air-preasure. HDD's made in the last few years depend on a "cusion of air" to keep the heads from impacting the disk surface. These don't work so well at high altitude. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. The video concession at Chicagoland uses Phillips DVD recorders... purchased on ebay for (+-)$300. They work well, but at this price it's cheap enough (and smart!) to have a hot backup. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. Gallery does look really cool... I've been unable to figure out to what degree I can use it with Shutterfly for printing and fullfillment. Does anyone do this, or do you just use it for "display only"? Shutterfly has been surpriginsly short with their answers to technical questions... Anyone got a good contact "higher up" than the standard progalleryhelp@shutterfly.com ? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. Either do I. I can only assume that there's something specific to the operation at Aggieland, (like unusually high runway fees, hanger rental, or insurance requirements) that drives up the cost of operating their 182. The 182 would not be the primary workhorse of the skydiving industry if it wasn't possible to break even with 4 jumpers. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. I'm really quite curious what you think the consequences would be? Canada has a long history of accepting refugees who choose not to serve. Usually this only helps people who are fleeing a country that practices the draft - largely because it's rare that someone would take the path this man has. I honestly have no idea which way the refugee board will rule. I think it's really a wildcard for now. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  17. No, I don't run a DZ. I do have pretty good math skills, and I can't see how someone can fly a million dollar airplane with 4 $20 slots and make a a finance payment, never mind have something left over. With an interest free loan, a million bucks over 10 years is a hundred grand a year. If fuel were free, pilots grew on trees, and maintenance was a thing of the past, that plane would have to fly 1250 4-slot loads just to keep the bank off your back. If you've got some different numbers, please post them. As far as I can see, there isn't any way for a DZO to put food on the table by flying that plane with 4 jumpers. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  18. I doubt very much that a DZ will make a profit flying a PAC 750 with 4 jumpers. Yes, the plane may make a profit, but a DZ won't. I see the PAC750 in the same class as King-airs, Caravans, and -24 otters. I think it's telling those are the same aircraft UTC uses in their cost comparisons. I do not see a $995,000 aircraft as a viable alternative to a $60,000 one. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  19. That's a pretty low standard, considering what other options it's competing with. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  20. The notion of trust is completely inconsistent with his actions on this matter. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  21. No pics of the fire, but the smoke (and a bit of fog) was laying a blanket over downtown. Two pics. Anyone from Chicago should know how bright these buildings usually are.... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  22. From the news reports, the building had a fireplan, it was executed as practiced. Aparently no fatalities yet. What's absolutely amazing, is that this is a 40-something story building built in the 30's, and like most Chicago skyscrapers it doesn't have a sprinkler system! I've lived in a whole lotta big cities in my life, and I've never seen one that doesn't require sprinklers in thier skyscrapers... never mind one with the 'fire' history like chicago! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  23. I've not had a single malfunction, apart from incompatible lenses. This same issue applies to the D10-D20. The only relevant issues are frame-rates and the plastic body. The plastic body has an upside which is it contributes to a lighter weight. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  24. I'm starting to think about writing a website during the offseason to feature my photography... I even went so far to purchase the domain: www.andycam.org. Now comes the hard part... Before I start writing from scratch I wonder if there's any off-the-shelf products I should consider. I'm particularly interested in the rash of "photo-blogs" out there. I already use shutterfly for printing and delivery, so I'm not looking to replicate that... I really just want to display my photos and hawk my "services". If people want to buy my pics then they could click through to shutterfly. I'm looking for something with automated tools for creating galleries, indexing. Maybe do something with RSS feeds. Anyone have any recomendations? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  25. Plus, if you invite us.... you get to meet me, too! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
