    Alti III

I had my name and USPA number engraved on the back of my alti-III. I took it to an engraving store at my local mall. They wouldn't gurantee the work or offer any waranty, but the engraving worked real well. No damage at all. Looks great. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  2. Anybody who tried to edit their hosts file, make sure you undo this change for next week. If you leave that entry in there, it may not work at all next week. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  3. if you are on Windows 95 or 98 edit the file c:\windows\hosts.sam add the same line: chat.extremexweb.com[tab]209.215.97.196 then save the file without the .sam extention. Reboot, and you should be in. I'd recomend EVERYONE remove this line before next weeks chat, though. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  10. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I got so much respect for how you're getting through this. You've got the right mindset, and I know you'll do well. Still looking forward to that beer we keep putting off... And the hang-gliding! _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  12. On my last repack, my rigger asked me if I used an RSL, I said "no - but it's still on there so I can reconect it if I want to". The rigger takes this as me not wanting my RSL at all, and doesn't connect it from the pin when she finished the pack job. My RSL is disonnected at BOTH ends! I'm not majorly concerned because the likelyhood of me reconnecting it before my next repack is minimal, but it clearly went against what I'd told her. I supose it's good because if the RSL does snag, it should pull through, without dumping my reserve. Good thing: I wonder though, if the floating RSL end-point floating around the back of my rig is a bad thing? I keep it hidden away in the same pocket as my reserve packing card on my Javelin. Does anyone think this might cause a problem? Would any other riggers do this? Disconnect the back end of the RSL simply because the front end is disconnected? _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  13. Telephone books do work better. But it does raise some interesting questions. I'd always figured that main flap style was better then the flaps on javelins, etc. I wonder if that's going to become a common problem? I also wonder what series of events led to the flap opening. Presumably it was stowed properly before exit. Surely it's not a major failure, but it is something we should think about. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  16. I think LazerQ summed it up nicely - there's some people who will not wear seat-belts, will not use air-bags, and will not use an RSL. The anti-establishment, anti safety argument is not somthing I can related to. Some people just don't want that added safety level, I guess. The only time I don't have an air bag when I drive is when I'm in a roll cage, and have a 5 point harness. I also have removed my RSL, but only because the kind of jumping I do makes it debatably innapropriate. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  20. I'm more concerned that you didn't mention any of the drawbacks, I wonder if you actually know them. But yes, it's your choice. That's the beauty of this sport. 22. The Belgian Chocolate Shop, in Toronto. I have insisted to Americans countless times that they have chocolates better then anything you'll find in the US. They argue everytime, then I bring a box back from my next visit. Then they stop arguing. You can buy them online here: http://www.orderline.com/chocolate/index.html Visiting the store is an experience. It's located on Queen St East in the Beaches. It's literally 10 feet wide, 20 feet deep. All the chocolates are made in the back. This place is the chocolate equivalent of a "Micro-Brew" beer. The Canadian Dollar makes it affordable. If you are going to take my word and try it, I'd suggest just getting one of the assorted boxes. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  23. There's a lot of people making blanket statements saying they disconected it right after student status for safety reasons. They rarely give an explanation of why they needed to do it right after student status. If somebody's going to make such a strong statement, at least an explanation of why they feel that way would be nice. RSL's have saved MANY lives. They're kind of like airbags in cars - yes, airbags have caused a few death's. While that's tragic, it doesn't mean everyone should run out and disconnect their airbags. I recently disconnected my RSL because I now fly a highly loaded eliptical main. I kept it connected righ up until I bought my Stiletto at 1.5. Camera flyers also disconnect them, so do CREW jumpers. At your level I can't think of any reason to disconnect it - just as I can't think of any reason to recomend somebody disconnects the airbag in their car. Once you actually have compelling reasons to disconnect it, this debate becomes a whole lot more interesting. Even under my 1.5 Stiletto, I still grappeled with the issue for a long time before finally removing it. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  24. I spent one rather miserable year in the following scenario. I was in Ottawa, going to Carleton University. We were going to do the "5 guys in a house thing" but three of them dropped out. So there was 'two guys in a house". Me, and Chris. Chris at the time was a 24 year old English student who really wanted to be a film student. He didn't shower, didn't go to school, didn't socialise, and really didn't do much of anything. At last check (now 28) Chris worked as a "purv filter" for one of the online dating sites. Before he got fired. He still wants to go to film school. Because the other rooomates dropped out of the deal, we needed new ones. The first one we got, I'll call "Lug". I actually don't remember his real name. He played hockey - not profesionally, but that's all he did. Lug also hit his girlfriend and punched holes in walls. He left when we had him arrested. Then there was his girlfriend. She moved in shortly after him. I'll call her "Toots". Again, I don't remember her real name. She was a dental hygenist, dumb as a post, and didn't have the confidence to stand up to Lug. She got beat up a lot. She stayed a bit after he left, but could afford the $300/month rent she was paying, so she left too. There was Frederico. He was spanish. He was cool, but never there. He was hanging out with the other spaniards at school. Lastly, there was Crystal. Crystal was a babe. Reasonably intelligent, and a babe. Did I mention she was a babe? She got pregnant, then dropped out and moved to Vancouver. The only light side to that year was that I had the KILLER basement pad. It was more then three times the size of any other room, had it's own fireplace, it's own living room "area",wood panneled walls, was truely a swinging pad. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
