Jimmy, I know you've seen a few special moments when your friends saw their own kids do their first jump. Do you still feel those were inapropriate? _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  5. 0:3:2 The second digit consists of all good things. Three good jumps, only three because it was cold. I was back at Chicagoland, my first time there this weekend. A good head down solo to start things off, followed by a 5 way with newbies, and a killer 7 way. The third digit is both good and bad. My first "first" was me dialing in the stiletto. I'm just now getting good surfs off it. My last jump I had a 50 foot surf off a straight in approach with 12 mph winds. WaHoo! I'm so pumped for a: a no wind day, b: downwinding it, and c: finally having the courage to take it through a high speed approach. My second 'first' was a bit more disturing. It was my first plane "emergency". I put that in quotes because it was a very slow speed emergency, the pilot informed us at 7.0 that we'd be getting out early, then finally let us out at 9.5 right over the DZ. We were jumping a temporarily leased Porter because all of Chicagoland's permanent aircrafts are still in Deland for the winter. It had a fuel system problem resulting in the engine surging. The pilot, (Andre, one of the best) landed safely in deKalb and repairs are under way. As to the first digit, well - I had a good night anyway. 6 different bars in three cities, lots of hotties, tons of flirting, and me getting home at 5:00am. Highlights include ths skydive.com girls being let loose on Chigaco in skimpy clothes. WaHoo! I'll sleep well tonight. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  7. I certainly don't disagree, I'm just a touch more aggresive. I'd go a step further, and find a Sabre 2 you can demo for a weekend or two. Put 15 or 20 jumps on the Sabre 2 190, and get lots of comments from your instructors - you might be ready for the 170. As always, your instructors know you better then we do, so make sure to ask them too. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  9. Fosters is made by Molson in Toronto, if you're buying it anywhere in North America. It even says so on the bottle, don't believe me? Still, it is a HELL of a lot better then Bud. I would put it on par with Molson Canadian or Labatt Blue. My favorite beers: Amsterdam Kerstmas (Toronto micro) C'est What Coffee Porter (Toronto brewpub) - yes, made with REAL coffee. Upper Canada Dark Ale Great Lakes Brewing Company Edmund Fitzgerald Porter. (Cleveland micro) Great Lakes Brewing Company Burning River Pale Ale. (Cleveland micro) Dave's Honey Brown (Toronto, made by Molson) _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  11. Dude, I'm a pretty big anti-autoritarian. My distrust of the system is just as big as anyone else (well, anyone that doesn't live in ruby ridge or waco). That said, I know a lot of cops, and my dislike of the system does certainly not translate to a dislike of the individuals. I've got a lot of real and skydiving friends that are cops. If you're even as close to as cool as they are, you're one cool guy. It sucks to hear about your injury. I'm surprised you don't have a more effective LART to go after this loser... The shit he pulled are things that in my book, you just aint suposed to do. 13. I've taken my Z-1 head down. Adding to the list of reasons that I hate it, there was a lot of wind comming in around the lense - enough to dry my eyes. The problem with freeflying with any full-face, is the reduced vision from the frame of the lense. Freeflyers don't like them because of reduced vision. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  14. It's the rediculous nature of the "sport" - people tear up perfectly good lakes with 15 foot fibreglass flat-hull boats with three hundred horsepower engines. They wear helmets for when they get ejected from the boat at 85MPH. _Am (prefers to tear up the St. Lawrence River in dads 25foot v-hull, but only at 60mph) ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  15. A whole lotta jaws dropped when farmer showed up at Chicagoland's safety day this spring. I think he's gonna be there this year. I think this means hinckley gets your spare bottle. Chicagoland has a long stright driveway running perpendicular to the highway, if you get there early you can just park at the side. People have been known to park on the side of the road, as well. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  19. I would think that there'd be a big low preasure burble above the raft. Low preasure equals higher altitude, so flying into the burble would translate to adding a few hundred feet to your altitude - not subtracting any. So rafts won't cause your cypres to pre-fire, which is what I think you're worried about. HOWEVER - it could cause your cypres to NOT fire when it should, so make sure you're being altitude aware. Being in the of the raft burble will delay the cypres fire to the point that you're too low to open and land safely... _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

True. And that's the one good thing about wreck. rec.skydiving will always exist. Newsgroups simply don't disapear. Nobody "ownes" wreck. This is a good thing and a bad thing both at the same time. DZ.com could disapear the minute sangiro looses his job and can't pay the bills. By the same token, the fact that it's owned lets Sangiro lay down some ground rules, which wreck.skydiving, by definition will never have. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  22. Yes, Heineken is a bit skunked. Sitting on a ship for two monthes will do that, especially to a beer in green bottles. Green bottles does not protect from UV Light the way brown bottles does. I'm SO glad Molson stopped using green bottles in the US. There's no quicker way to ruin a good beer, IMHO. The color of bottles is SO important. Corona, in a clear bottle, will react to the sun's UV in 10 minutes if in direct sunlight. If you ever make this mistake - trust me, you'll never do it again. There's a reason they call it "skunk". Just 10 minutes in direct sunlight will make Corona one of the most revolting liquids ever produced. (I used to work for Molson - brewmaster trained but not certified) Molson started putting a "brewed for you on" date on all their Canadian beer. Whenever you bought a beer you would know how old it was. It was amazing, I'd find two year old bottles in big bars that sold a lot of the stuff. Again, thankfull for the brown bottles. This is with a very efficient beer distribution system in place[1]. I'd hate to imagine how long it takes for a bottle of Heinekin to arrive at your local 7-11 after leaving the Brewery in Amsterdam. I also can't imagine how improperly it was stored in this process. While I've never had real Amsterdam Heineken, I do imagine that a bottle bought in the US would taste significantly different then one bought in Europe. [1] As a leftover from prohibition, Molson and Labatt own "The Beer Store" - which have a monopoly on beer sales and distribution. Literally every beer in Ontario is sold by "The Beer Store", with a few excptions. This applies to beer sold to consumers and bars alike. Beer gets to the retailers within days of having been produced because it's shipped straight to the beer store from the brewers. There are no "distributers". In the US, there's often three and four levels of beer distributers. US beer goes through 4 or 5 warehouses before ariving at a store. Ontario beer goes straigh from the Brewers warehouse to the store. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
