180(cost of car rentals this weekend)1:2 Rented a car because I still haven't dealt with my non-functioning prelude, and can't drive stick with a bum ankle anyways. Met skymedic for beers saturday night, then drove out to the DZ sunday. First jump with some new gear that skybytch sold me WEEKS ago. First jump with OmriMon - a sweet two way freefly jump with two docks. He was in a stand, me in a sit. My GOD that boy is a lightweight... After watching people jump all day and playing with my new toy (pc12), took Omri into town for some dinner and social time. Put a pair of airblades a set distance from the can. Require the participants to pass through the airblades, and procede with an open parachute over them or behind them on their shoulder, to the beer, where they chug. They can swoop, or if they suck, can run. They're timed on the time it takes to do both. So far.... Skydiving Gear, Video Gear, Ankle Injury. Skydiving gear roughly $5000 Video gear $2000 and counting... The Ankle injury is currently at $1900, but I still need to do physiotherapy, so it'll probably be close to $3000 by the time I'm done. Thank god for insurance... $1900 has covered an emergency room visit, two visits to the orthopedic surgeon, and 45 minutes in an MRI machine. The MRI costing the most. THe amount of money Americans spend on healthcare is truely mind-blowing. I just bought a PC-CARD (aka pcmcia) firewire card for my laptop. $80 at microcenter. If I can get a PC-Card one for $80, you should be able to do a hell of a lot better with PCI. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Yup, and www.dbuys.com has the best prices with still good service. I paid an extra $50 for next day shipping. I ordered it at 4:30pm eastern, and it was on my doorstep by 9:30am central. There's NOTHING wrong with a triathlon. ?!?!?!? If you're at about 60 jumps, you can start to think about slowing down your flare and seeing how the canopy will plane out. Some DZ's get people into this by doing 'two-stage' or 'three-stage' flares, where you pause briefly at different flare points. The "standard" three-stage flare is shoulders, chest, groin. These are all bouncing around the real idea when landing, which is to give a smooth slow flare, which you're able to use in reaction to how the canopy is flying. The only important key is that you want to keep your toggles even, so that you don't have unintentional turns. You'll find that once you build the confidence to give a smooth slow flare, you should be able to get some really fun, really smooth landings out of it. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I used to do some kayaking, but my real thing was white water canoeing. There was nothing like the expresion on the kayakers faces when I'd pass them in class 3 rapids in my 50 year old cedar strip canoe... Damn that was fun! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I had the same problem when I was on Lindsey's laptop last weekend. I'd log out, then log in as me, and I'd post as her. Her Caching was set to "Every Visit to the Page", even. Even though there's tons of different planes, and literally thousands of skydivers, WFFC does a pretty good job of keeping separation between the loads. What this means, is that unless you're on a multi-plane formation load (which, trust me - you won't) you are generally in the air with a single plane load of people. Or, if there is more then one plane-load in the air, they're going to be at significantly different altitudes. Normal jumps at WFFC doesn't have THAT many canopies in the air at the same time. Rantoul also has an absolutely HUGE landing area. When I mean HUGE, I literally mean hundreds of acres of mowed grass just waiting for you to set down on. You can land every jump as far away as you like, and have all the airspace you need. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
