Would Ansel Adams have gone digital....?
AndyMan replied to AndyMan's topic in Photography and Video
Stolen blatantly from slashdot: After viewing photographs by Christopher Burkett, which are not digitally manipulated, Peter Lewis wondered what place have digital cameras and image manipulations in the art of photography. And a question hit his mind. If Ansel Adams, one of the most famous photographers of the 20th century, was still alive, would have he gone digital? Lewis talked at great length with Richard LoPinto, vice president for SLR camera systems at Nikon Inc. to find an answer. And guess what? LoPinto thinks Ansel Adams would have loved digital cameras. The article also discusses digital camera resolution and the future for film camera sales. This overview contains more details and a small photograph by Christopher Burkett." Bias of the nikon exec selling his new camera not withstanding, interesting read. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
I think I'll paraphrase myself. Not pulling your reserve is pure laziness, and it might kill you. Don't be lazy. You've got 5 seconds to save your life. Pull both handles. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Personally, no. PC9's are at least 3 years old, as they haven't been sold new in that long at least. For an extra hundred bucks, you could have a brand new TRV-22 out of the box with support. The short answer is No. PAL cameras essentially only work with PAL tv's, and NTSC essentially only work with NTSC TV's. There are a very few TV sets or VCR's that can handle both, but those are rare. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

What's the consensus on the idea of getting a DVD "recorder" vs an DVD RW drive for the PC? One is a PC accesory, the other is a piece of component hardware that sits on a shelf. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I'd be surprised if current didn't know about ex. We ALL knew about ex.... Just tell him! It's not the big thing you're imagining it is. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Just keep in mind, it took roughly ten years for people to build confidence in the Cypres. While much of that has changed because we've learned a properly designed device is a good thing, also keep in mind that FXC attempted to enter the market with the FXC Astra, a device which never became widely accepted, for good reason IMHO. There is an extreme shortage of information regarding long term reliability of the Vigil. Even the shorterm is unclear - while there is an awareness of reported misfires, these incidents have been glossed over by the manufacturer and not thoroughly explained in a technical manner. Like the Astra, I will be waiting to see how it works for other "real" users, in conditions where any errors will be widely circulated with a technical analysis. I do not consider tests done by insiders good enough. Third party evaluations without any form of Non-Disclosure Agreements are a minimum. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

From what I understand, from 3rd parties... The CSC porter went into the shop for a new pair of shocks after flying the majority of loads in the 500 jumps in 24 hour marathon at Lake Elsinore. The lifts were suposed to be shared with Skydive Arizonas porter, but it suffered enough damage during a hard landing that it needed to sit out. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

As we get more and more jumps, quickly borrowing other peoples gear becomes more common. This is especially true when we start jumping on DZ staff, either as an instructor, video flyer, or whataever. Jumpers frequently borrow gear to make back-to-back loads, for example. I do not want to be in the position of cutting away and wondering... It would suck to find yourself relying on an RSL out of laziness, because you forgot you were borrowing gear, only to find out this gear doesn't have one. It's simple. Cuttaway and pull your reserve, every time. It's not like that additional step if dificult, and it might just save your life. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Yeah. That sure would suck... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

If I had followed this rule, I would never have dated the woman I married just a few monthes ago. For me, dating at the DZ has been the most single rewarding thing I've done. Ever. Also - as for the requirement that someone MUST be a jumper, I never believed that. It is true that both people being jumpers sure does simplify life, and allows you to commit a lot more time to jumping. It can be tough to balance your weekend time, especially in the North where we can only jump 8 monthes a year. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Yup. One of those DC9's at evergreen has been recently bought by the Conasters (sp?) I think, owners of Perris. I imagine we'll see it at Rantoul. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

It's bigger then the PC120? Most of the PC120 is plastic too, at least a plastic shell covering a thin metal frame inside. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

It really depends on what you'd want to use it for? Freeflying? RW-inside video? WR camera-slot? There are different plusses and minuses of a top-mount (trv) vs a side mount(pc). What do you want to do with it? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Yeah, its frustrating. PD reps were once telling me that they would be available at Rantoul this year, but that came and went and still haven't heard a thing. PD did the same thing with the Sabre2 a few years back, so I guess they think they know what they're doing. It is frustrating to be waiting for these things, there was a time where I was itching to jump one, but that has long passed. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Tennesse Skydiving Center -- Aircraft
AndyMan replied to quade's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah, the FTC would get involved after a DZ or jumper complained. The complaintant would have to have a valid complaint - ie, the jumper that was sent to Eloy with an invalid gift certificate, or a DZO thats lost business to a ficticious dropzone. I can't see any reason why it isn't fraud... It's just small potatoes so the gov't won't get involved unless they get a bunch of complaints. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
Do you actually think about these things before you repost them....? To answer your question, no I don't need any evidence at all that judges make their decisions based on their personal feelings. They are human, after all, thus the rules of human nature apply. I think you were suggesting that they do so in an appropirate manner, and yes - I'd need a lot more evidence then what you've posted here. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Any hardware store should have it. If you're having trouble, I guarantee Home Depot will. If my gurantee's are wrong... I REALLY guarantee any theater supply store would have it. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I saw some wings just like that on a coat for sale at Banana Republic, I think. It seems tacky to wear them if you don't deserve them, but I guess its pretty common. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

This is all over the Canadian news. People are asking why Canada is contributing hundreds of millions of dollars to the reconstruction when Canadian companies aren't allowed to participiate. I imagine either the rule will not last, or America will have a much harder time raising funds to pay for it. The majority of the afluent world opposed the war, exactly the same governments the US are asking to pay for it. Which way do they want it? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Velocity's slider and RWS Risers
AndyMan replied to cheneyneel's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Are they RWS risers new? I have RWS toggles, and they were stiff when the risers were new. THey loosened up after just a few jumps. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
