  1. That's kinda what I think too. It's not for me, but it will change the truck market. People blew off the japanese when they entered the car market, too. Now they own the car market. I have no doubt that Honda and Toyota will eventually do some major damage to detroit through trucks like these. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. Sure. Although, I do wear a helmet now primarily as a means to attach a camera, so I'm not sure if these needs could coexist. That said, if I were to be active in 4way or doing a lot more freeflying, then I would be more interested in a helmet with good protection qualities. I think, just as in the past, a new kind of helmet would not become popular until groups like Airspeed or some of the shit-hot freeflyers start to use it. _An __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  3. I've gotten some pretty good shots taking a standard tailgate camera exit, standing in the door up against one of the walls. Don't go until you see the raft come up off the floor. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  4. See the attached html for a minor odity in the home page layout. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  5. I wear a my Suunto all the time, so I always have it when I fly commercial. The "highest" its ever indicated was 9000 feet, which was on a old southwest DC9. That flight was over two hours. I didn't notice any hypoxia symptoms in myself or the crew, but I bet it contributed to a lot of the sleeping passengers... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. Having a manual or book for Premiere will help you a lot. It is not the most intuitive application out there.... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. Ok, dumb question then. Why just the hook side? The loop side is sewn to the MLW as normal. I would have thought the loop would wear before the hook. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. I have over 500 jumps. If it were not for the fact that I jump camera, I would not jump without one. The pros list is real short. It's got one item: "It may save your life". The cons list is even shorter. At 50 jumps, an RSL is a no-brainer. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. That was most likely due to the poor fit of the student gear. The most single important factor in gear being comfortable is the fit. All gear that is custom designed will fit very well and be comfortable. Used gear is hit and miss. Some people will get lucky and get great fitting gear. Others will buy crappy fitting gear and blame the manufacturer. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  10. My vote is so-cal. I was there last new years, and spent the days in shorts and t-shirt. Night-times were ok for camping with a single good sleeping bag. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  12. Indeed. I would much rather people spend time ensuring that such events do not happen to their family, than plot what kind of revenge to take if tragedy does in fact strike. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. This is most certainly not the first time someone has sued a gear manufacturer. The last time it happened it did not end skydiving as we knew it. I'm sure it'll happen in the future, too. I doubt that will end skydiving as we know it, either. It *IS* the first time a gear manufacturer didn't bother to defend themselves. It *IS* the first time a gear manufacturer had a 50 million judgement against them. To me, the connection is clear and obvious. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. This is also what the manual states. However, when its in a rapidly changing environment, either climbing in the plane or in freefall, it switches into a mode where it updates 3 times every two seconds - more then fast enough for skydiving. I reiterate what I've said many times. The Suunto is not for beginners, nor is it for those who depend on instruments for their altitude awareness. However for those people who've progressed beyond simply trusting mechcanical devices, it seems to work quite well. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. Chicagoland SKydiving is an official retailer for Suunto's. When I was speaking with the USA rep, they maintined that they are not deisgned for skydiving, and should not be used for it. That said, neither are pro-tec's. I think whats going on is that Suunto is more then willing to sell the watches for the purpose, but are expressing a disclaimer of sorts so that we won't go after them if they fail. It's just another kind of disclaimer. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. That is a question I don't think any of us can answer, until we've heard from Precision. I'm eagerly awaiting them jumping in on this thread, as I'm sure they've been anticipating it for weeks. That said, I suspect until the legal proceedings are done, speaking publicly would be a very bad idea... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  17. Not showing up at all seems the singularly most foolish option available, which is I think the point a lot of us have been trying to make. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  20. I suspect that was going on was that george decided fighting simply wasn't worth it. Looking at Precisions products, they really don't make many these days, do they? People have largely abandoned the Raven after the issues surrounding the servie bulletin, and most of their other canopies are made by other companies and they only act as an import agent. I saw in the same copy of skydiving that Beezy Shaw was taking over the reselling of some of the european canopies, and that his leaving Precision was amicable. I didn't understand the separation until I read about Precisions legal problems. Once you take out the European canopies, and presume that the Raven isn't selling very well anyways, well - I guess there isn't much of a business left to defend. _Am (edited to correct Beezy's name) __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  21. You forgot: 6. Defend yourself and win, countersue for attorneys fees, come out breakeven. 7. Defend yourself and win, countersue for attorneys fees plus punitive damages and come out ahead. 8. Defend yourself and lose, have a managable reasonable judegment against you based on the facts, maybe $100,000-$500,000 payable in installmants over 20 years. Not defending yourself is the only guaranteed way to lose. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  24. George himself could have walked into the courtroom himself and explain the waivers, and assumption of risks, that the guy knew what he was doing. I can understand not wanting to hire a team of lawyers, but not bothering to do it on the cheap just seems to me as laziness. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  25. I'm amazed that nobody *IS* picking up on it. It seems to me that it's entirely crutial to the case. It changes it from somebody going out of business because they got sued to death, to a form of legal suicide. The blame lies entirely in Precision not showing up - not some person who thought he had a case. Because of this - all these other debates are entirely meaningless. Wether he had a case or not is irrelevant. Precision lost because they didn't show up. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
