  1. Indeed, it does appear that I am guilty of feeding trolls... Bad Andy. No Donut. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. So... are you really saying with a straight face that you think the risks involved with skydiving are even remotely similar to riding a roller coaster? If you think that's the case, I've got a plot of land in florida to sell you... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  3. No, it does not show that at all. Roughly 12 million people ride a roller coaster every year, and 3 die. Roughly 10 thousand active skydivers jump every year, and 30 die. 3 in 12 million is pretty close to 0. 30 in 10,000 is not. I see the difference, do you? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  4. That was Andy Anderson, and he's posted about it here before. Since I'm sure you're concerned about him, you'll be dieing to know that Andy actually walked away from that "landing". Its unfortunate that "consumption junction" didn't bother to show the part of the clip where Andy stands up and walks away. That, and porn links like "Hot Chicks with big fat Dicks!" are just some of the reasons I choose to browse OTHER websites. Funny, the link says "hang glider biffs in". I don't think Andy flies gliders... __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  5. So now a simple typo is a "hack"? When did THAT happen? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. Is OK. ATA is one of the few airlines I don't have documentation for. I should have it by the time we go. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. Do you really believe this? It happens, about once a year. Roughly 1 in 30 deaths in skydiving happen even though the jumper did everything right. It's not even the end of January and a tandem pair went in in Japan, aparently all handles pulled, everything done "right". If I wanted to take part in a "safe" sport, I would not jump from airplanes, I would ride roller coasters. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. For a brief period Value-Jet was operating in Canada a few years ago. I flew them once, and quite honestly, it was the scariest plane I've ever flown in, including jumpships. There was exposed wiring in the passenger compartment and overhead bins would not close. I'm a firm believer that ValueJet deserved all the bad press they got. That said, I'll be flying ATA next week. With gear. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. Skydiving is not safe. You can do everything right, and still die. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  10. First, these pics for the 330 are exactly the same as my 120. Removing that half of the handle is easy, it only involves two small screws inside the door. Seoncdly, While MACK waranty service sucks in general, and I would not recomend them.... I did not have any problems related to the hand strap when I sent in my PC120. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  11. 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass GT - 3.8L V6. Coupe, bucket seats, floor shifter. It woulda been SWEET it if hadn't been such a piece of shit. After that car I vowed I'd never buy American cars again. I replaced it with a 95 Honda Prelude, and now just bought a 2003 Honda Element. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  12. I understand that, but I've also found the opposite to be true. Given a camera at ground ambient temperature, the glass and metal frame cool faster then the air inside, which can also result in moisture problems. Or maybe something else is going on. All I can tell you is that I get moisture errors while on jumprun when its cold at altitude. A camera condom has helped. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. If you wanna send me the video, I can host it somewhere fast. Are you coming back to hinckley this year? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. Condensation can happen in any kind of significant temperature change. If you take a cold camera into a warm environment, humidity from the warm air will condense onto the cold surface. However I've had exactly the opposite problem - on the ground the unit warms to ambient temperature and humidity, and as the plane climbs the metal in the camera cools, and the warm air inside the camera condenses inside the camera. The camera shuts down on jumprun with a moisture error. Adding a camera condom seems to have solved the problem. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. Is someone gonna post a picture, or do we just have to imagine what it looks like? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. I presume you called Andri for his porter already? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  17. No, it's not that. A plane flies in its own airspace, and doesn't really care which way the air is moving. Here's what it is - obviously a headwind slows down a plane. However what we forget is that by slowing down the plane, the plane has to stay aloft for a longer time to get to its destination. The plane has to stay in the headwind for longer, thus amplifying the affect. A plane flying with a tailwind will get to its destination faster, thus spending less time in the effect of the tailwind. Thus - a headwind of 5 knots affects the plane for a longer period of time then the same tailwind of 5 knots. They do not balance out. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  18. I have heard a story that he paid for the busses to get a lot of the people there. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  19. I was watching the freakshow on CNN when I was at the gym, so I couldn't hear what they were saying. I think I was most disturbed when he climbed up ontop of the SUV to what appeared to be a heros welcome, also when the crowd was running alongside the SUV. I continue to be amazed by the American publics obsession with stardom. It really is amazing that such numbers turn out to blindly support an alleged child molester. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  20. Not only have I not had one, in 4 years of jumping I've never even seen a Cypres activation. I have seen the results of a few FXC activations, but these could have been prematures. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  21. No, but you can put it in the IRM. Unfortunately, there really isn't any useful information for instructors in the IRM, so I don't know why they'd start now... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I saw a concept much like this on TV - maybe the Discovery Chanel, or somthing like that, nearly 10 years ago. I figure the private plane market is too small to support the design of such a thing, while the air transport industry has too good of a safety record to require such a thing. The damn things just don't crash often enough... Besides, what is it? It's an inflatable wing to carry a plane down. News flash: planes ALREADY has wings. Generally wings don't fail, so having a backup wing doesn't seem like a good to me. Now think about wingloading, and how big of a canopy would be required to get close to a standard wingloading... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  23. Nope. I'm a firm believer that there is no such thing as too cold. There is only such thing as insuficiently dressed. And yes, I've been in far colder weather then youi've got right now. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  25. I use RAID extensively on servers with SCSI disks, but have no experience attempting to build my own using ATA disks. Sounds fun! Let us know how it goes. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
