That was TD actually, his first jump at Rantoul, he was flying Doug's canopy. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Since I know you're on a budget.... You didn't mention if you're PC or MAC. If PC, you can download Microsoft Movie Maker from their website for free. It's basic, but it does edits just as easily as the others, and does some very basic effects and titles. If MAC, then you need to ask someone else. The next step up from Movie Maker is Adobe Premiere, which is a profesional high end product. If you're buying online, expect to pay about $800, although its pretty easy to find someone who'll lend you a copy. Editing projects is a lot more time consuming then you'd think. Roughly one minute of finished video will take you roughly one hour to edit. A 20 minute "end of year video" will take you 20 hours to finish. You might recognize some of these people: http://66.102.107.165/andrew/2003pgS.wmv _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Paragear would be your best bet. Other then that I know of a rigger in Lombard. Also, FallingAngel lives in the burbs but often comes downtown. Maybe shoot her a PM... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Ok, so maybe something like this? http://www.salon.com/mwt/wire/2004/02/03/valentine/index.html. In all seriousness though, a bearded dragon does sound interesting... From the AP: Cockroaches suggested as valentine gifts. Feb. 3, 2004 | BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) -- Looking for a little something special for your valentine? How about a hissing cockroach? That's the suggestion from the folks at the Ross Park Zoo in Binghamton, N.Y. The zoo is running a Valentine's Day adoption program called "Give Your Beauty a Beast." For ten bucks, you can adopt a hissing cockroach for your sweetheart. The adoption includes a photo, cockroach fact sheet and a free pass for your special friend to visit the little hisser. If a roach doesn't say "I love you," the zoo has some romantic alternatives. There's a bearded dragon, a black vulture and a bleeding heart dove. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

This years Valentines day discussion came up tonight, and craichead said to me "Andy, you know I don't buy into those things. I don't want you to do anything this year". Is this a trap? Is it the proverbial "do I look fat" question? Is it possible for there to be a positive outcome? Last year she said "I don't want nothin", so I brought flowers, and things were good. This year she says "I don't want nothin - so don't bring me no flowers", and I'm worried. What should I do? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Oh, we're back to that question? I thought that was answered already. If you're worried about chows while swooping, then the same certifications that motorcyclists have would be very meaningfull, I think. If you're worried about knocking your head on the side of the plane, or colisions while doing RW, then I think the skiing ones are meaningfull. Clearly no rated helmet will help someone who hits at the same time as their canopy, so I don't think the extremees are what we're discussing. We're discussing whether a rated helmet offers good protection for not-so-critical accidents that are very common in skydiving, and frequently do more damaget then they should. Yes, I think in all but the extreme cases the ratings would be meaningfull. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
-
I don't understand the question. Relevance to who? Jumpers? I think so, after all ski helmet certifications are relevant to skiiers. Its tough to buy a uncertified ski helmet, shops just don't carry them - they don't sell. Relevance to courts? I think so, legal liability protection is why groups like UAL and SNELL were founded in the first place. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I don't think there's any reason to think that this is specific to skydivers. I know that when I was into compeditive skiing, having a punk'ed out brain-bag was dog-digity. Wanting stylish helmets does not mean people don't want safety ratings. If skiiers can have funk'ed out certified ski helmets, so can skydivers. I'm sure the first manufacturer to make a rated skydiving helmet will sell many. I imagine it'll also serve to reduce the manufacturers liability by having independent certification. No, a pro-tec is not a "skydiving helmet". It's a general purpose helmet that people use for skydiving. A skydiving helmet is purpose-built and has things like internal audible mounts and camera mounting accesories. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Yeah, you need to read up on stylesheets. What you're asking for is really quite simple. Identify the destination with a tag. LEAVE BLANK Then you can manipulate that div using javascript. For example, you can do: myDiv.style='myStyle' - apply a style sheet. myDiv.text='hello!' - replace "LEAVE BLANK" with "hello". It's really quite simple, but you need to do some reading first. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Craichead and I will be in the tunnel on friday and sunday, and possibly at lake Wales on saturday. Look for a big bald guy and craichead is Thai. Oppportunities for meetups will be slim, because we're traveling with a group. That said, if you see us... Speak up! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

All I'll say is that similar liability protection for the ski industry resulted in hills opening all over the country. It benefitted skiiers by giving more resorts, and the resorts themselves became bigger with better facilities. In this case, I can clearly see that the reduced risk to DZ's easily translates into more and stronger DZ's for us to play at. Litigation is currently causing major headaches for one major gear manufacturer, DZ's are hardly imune. Removing the threat of litigation from the backs of DZ management will clearly be in the interest of "fun jumpers". _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Would I pay a few hundred bucks for it? Absolutely not. Do I think it adds to the value of the camopy? Sure, just like Big Air Sportz and their triangles or Atair and their diamonds. Would I want it on mine? Yup, I just wouldn't pay a few hundred for it. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

This is exactly whats happened to me, flying the camera has locked me into RW since I'm not comfortable enough with my vRW skills to properly fly a camera slot. My vRW skills have basically stagnated since I strapped on a camera. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

When I was in college we would play Quake regularly while drinking. Personally, I scored much better after a few. I don't think that means anything other then playing Quake is a crappy way to figure out how alcohol affects your ability to drive. That is not necesarily true. As a bigger guy those 3 beers will have a much reduced effect on me then someone smaller. As a skydiver, they'll have a much reduced effect on me then someone who doesn't drink every weekend. Short of giving me a calibrated breathalizer to play with while I drink, there is no way to even guess what .06 feels like. For a brief period a few years ago bars in Ontario tried putting coin operated breathalysers in bars. They were loads of fun to play with. It turned out they were horribly innacurate so they were gotten rid of. Sounds like a good idea if could have made them reliable. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Clearly, pilots are held to different standards then drivers. That said, I have absolutely no knowledge about what a .06 feels like. I do know that it is not against the law in any jurisdiction I've ever lived in, so I can only presume that it's acceptable. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Sure. Cool. Right, but you objected to a 20 year old having ANY amount of alcohol, even an amount that wouldn't cause him to be intoxicated. Your complaint didn't even consider if the kid was drunk. That part was irrelevant. What if you're driving in Quebec, where its legal to drink at 18? Would you still be so damning to a 20 year old who drinks a moderate amount, waits a reasonsable time, then drives home perfectly sober? Or, if you ever find yourself in Quebec will you never venture near a roadway out of fear of eminent death from the clearly irresponsible and dangerous population? There are a vast number of painfully stupid laws in every country. In America the list includes charging a 20 year old who had a small amount of alcohol and drove home while perfectly sober, with DUI. Its our duty to obey all laws, even the ones we disagree with. That said, I do have a lot of sympathy for people who get screwed by painfully stupid laws. If the situation is as was described by DiverDriver , then that's whats happened here. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

This is getting off topic, but which countries in particular? Canada definately is more reasonable, so was western Europe when I wandered there a few years ago, and I don't think its changed since. I don't know of any other country that bans booze until 21. That number seems entirely arbitrary and contrived. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

He needs to argue that he never should have been pulled over in the first place. The courts have consistently ruled that cops need good reason to pull someone over, and if he's honest when he's saying he was driving "like normal", then they had no reason to pull him over. If it goes to trial, he (or his lawyer) needs to drill into the cop exactly why he was pulled over. That said, if he really blew a .06, his opinion of his driving is not very accurate. Small DUI cases CAN be beaten. Specifically a threat of a long and dificult case can persuade the prosecution to settle. Without a doubt he needs a lawyer. I have no experience with public defenders, I assume there can be good ones and bad ones. If he's got a bad one he needs to figure it out quickly and get a real lawyer. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
