  1. This is pure horse shit! You know Shannon and I were planning on being there when it was on the 9th right? Now we're hosed! Methane Freefly - got stink?
  2. All I'm saying is that I don't think it's violation of the FAR to jump a cypress that throws an error code and shuts down. It's up to the manufacturer. As a matter of fact, cypress's recent service bulletin doesn't state you can't jump it, it says you need to talk to them first. Given what happened recently, if my cypress threw an error, regardless of what the FARs say, I wouldn't jump it again. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  3. That's not quite true: Maybe my source for the actual FAR text is not good, but I read that to say that it only MUST be functional if the manufacturer says so. After reading the cypress manual, I was unclear as to whether or not the rig was grounded if it displayed an error code and shut down. Regardless, I think the following may have been the vital piece of information in the event that occurred in Eloy: Methane Freefly - got stink?
  4. Sorry, we're road tripping with Doug and Janice. Vegas => Sedona => Scottsdale => then Eloy Won't make the invasion this year :( Methane Freefly - got stink?
  5. Kim, you never tell people the important details.... Will there be pub golf? And if so, will anyone wear a kilt, puke in the pilots car, and pass out in the parking lot infront of Rack'em up? God, I miss you fuckers!!!! Methane Freefly - got stink?
  6. Hey, how about a life time pass to the WFFC for the guy who posted the story? I actually found it here: http://reddit.com/info/6126e/comments/ So all you skydivers can read comments and vote up the story if you want to get it back on the front page of reddit. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  7. Just found this article. http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2007/nov/15/boulder-couple-accuses-former-judge-mayor-land-gra/ I know one of the reasons quoted for last year's cancellation was "personal", perhaps this was it. I know some people don't love Don, but if this is him, I would expect he could find a lot of support from some in the skydiving community. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  8. anyone else find it surprising how this thing didn't have line twists once? Methane Freefly - got stink?
  9. ...at a boogie, swooping over the fence that is in place to protect the spectators from the skydivers, 90 degrees to the accepted pattern at the time. I think this was 2005. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  10. I don't like the sound of that. It sounds like you are trading safety for convenience. Even if it is ok with you, and ok with the TM, is it fair to the passenger, who has no idea the risk you are taking with their life? Methane Freefly - got stink?
  11. I sometimes think the most dangerous thing a person with 20 jumps can find on a dropzone is a person with 30 jumps. Next time he, or another low jump wonder, wants to give advice, drag him in front of an instructor and ask him to give the advice a second time. If you can't tell a jumper something in front of the 5 best skydivers on a DZ, you shouldn't say it. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  12. I've had 4 mals (in the first 1000 jumps), and I believe they were all caused by brake fires. I consider all of the following to be contributing factors: Gear age/maintenance Riser Design User error( I tend to grab the risers a little early ) I now own a wings and a voodoo container. I've put trulock risers on both, I stow the excess brake line with the locking pin, and I do it every time. It's been almost another 1000 jumps, and I've had no issues. Since switching to trulocks, I've had a brake fire (up top) on a velo 111 loaded at 2.1. The trulocks worked and all I had was a turning canopy, not a spinning one. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  13. Actually, I would say there are plenty of outs at crosskeys, as long as you make the right decision by 2000 feet. If you wait until 1,000 feet, or find out at 1,000 feet that you have made the wrong decision, this is what can/will happen. What I would always tell people new to that dz: If you know you can make the main landing area, land there. If you "think" you can make it, start looking for a place you know you can make it to and land there. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  14. Congrats dude! I'm impressed. I talked to you at Summerfest last year when this was still just an idea. I'm definitely impressed that you took it from idea to product over the past year. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  15. Sweet! Shannon and I will be getting there Thursday and leaving Sunday morning. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  16. you should buy beer if you think there is someone on the dropzone that has something in their head that may be of value to you. In other words, as long as you have stuff left to learn. When that stops happening, you should quit skydiving. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  17. Yes. 1 reason to not celebrate: He did more to tarnish the name of Christianity than he did to improve it. But then, if you care about that, that would mean you were a christian, and celebrating his death would be decidely unchristian. Another reason to not celebrate is that someone will take his place, and there is no guarantee that they will be any better than he was. Methane Freefly - got stink?

  20. short answer: you may recover a turn too low with toggle input. long answer: There is a point of no return, where you are too low or too late with the toggles to dig yourself out, and you are going to hit...at that point it's time to start prioritizing parts of your body you want to save, start with the head and move down from there. Also, if you think you can pull it off on rears, there are plenty of videos on skydivingmovies.com that can show you what that looks like. People hanging on their rear risers waiting for a change in the picture that ain't coming... Methane Freefly - got stink?
  21. A creative rigger can set up the pockets so they are closed on both ends, and still allow for stowing it on either the right or the left, making the scenario you described impossible. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  22. - "Oh, I'm perverted? What about the time I found you naked in your room with a bowl of jello?" - "Did not!" - "Did too!" - "I was hot and I was hungry." Methane Freefly - got stink?
  23. First of all, the DZs already have the tools to ground offenders. They ground people all the time, and sometimes, even for unsafe patterns under canopy...probably not often enough. I guess the way I took your comment was that they should be financially liable for something that may happen to a skydiver while skydiving. The only way I see to enforce such financial liability would be through lawsuits. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  24. The day the DZ's become liable for the stupidity of jumpers at the DZ, is the day the DZ closes. Are you guys really getting litigious on us? How the hell are lawsuits the answer here? Methane Freefly - got stink?
  25. This is completely ducking the problem, and IMO, is much more dangerous to the sport as a whole than the "I make my own pattern" kind of attitudes. So, so far we have come up with these ideas: Better education New rules Law suits "Never confuse movement with action." - Ernest Hemingway Methane Freefly - got stink?
