Skydive Cross Keys End-of-Season Bash

Did any of you RTFM? from the article, the add claimed: Alito has ruled to make it easier for corporations to discriminate ... even voted to approve strip search of a 10-year-old girl. The true facts of both cases have a different ring to them when read without the left wing tilt. I think we should applaud them for requiring adds be more based in truth. When they don't lend the same protection to Hillary Clinton in 2008, and I'm sure they won't, then we should fry them. Methane Freefly - got stink?

and a drink to go with it: * Take the juice from one bottle of that Ol' Janx Spirit. * Pour into it one measure of water from the seas of Santraginus V. * Allow three cubes of Arcturan Mega-gin to melt into the mixture (it must be properly iced or the benzine is lost). * Allow four litres of Fallian marsh gas to bubble through it (in memory of all those happy Hikers who have died of pleasure in the Marshes of Fallia). * Over the back of a silver spoon float a measure of Qualactin Hypermint extract, redolent of all the heady odours of the dark Qualactin Zones; subtle sweet and mystic. * Drop in the tooth of an Algolian Suntiger. Watch it dissolve, spreading the fires of the Algolian Suns deep into the heart of the drink. * Sprinkle Zamphour. * Add an olive. * Drink... but... very carefully. Methane Freefly - got stink?

petition for exemption to the 120 day reserve repack cycle denied
jdfreefly replied to jsaxton's topic in Gear and Rigging
Well....no shit. I would actually say that the primary cause was that they did not properly maintain their gear. But the point is, that the sport is changing, and it is changing in a way that may make a 180 day repack cycle unwise. Methane Freefly - got stink? -
petition for exemption to the 120 day reserve repack cycle denied
jdfreefly replied to jsaxton's topic in Gear and Rigging
I think it may be a bad idea. In the last year, two people I know, avid pond swoopers, had to send their reserves in for repairs, one of them quite extensive repairs. The damage was the result of rust from the grommets on their reserve's sliders. This was after the standard 120 day repack cycle. How bad might the damage have been after 180 days? Pictures of white top/white bottom/colored ribs canopies
jdfreefly replied to katzurki's topic in Gear and Rigging
The last two parachutes I bought had white top and bottom skin with colored ribs. I have been told by several different people that they have a much harder time keeping track of where I am under canopy than they do others who have multicolored top and bottom skins. My next canopy will not have an all white top skin and bottom skin. Style is certainly important in this sport, but it is not worth your life or the life of one of your friends. Maybe I am not making myself clear. I am all for personal responsibility, and if it were me, I would be up there right now going, "Damn, I should have thought of that." But that doesn't absolve the manufacturers of their responsibility. One of the things that is so great about skydiving, is that we look out for each other. Sure, when it comes down to it, only you are truly responsible for your skydive, but still, we look out for each other. That should include the manufacturers too. Methane Freefly - got stink?

That is a really good idea. Unless you are stealing the idea from someone else's site, you should patent that, before Amazon does. Methane Freefly - got stink?

I first met Adrian through you Adam. I had about 50 jumps and was packing for a living. Adam invited me for sushi with him and Adrian and Kat. I remember feeling a little star-struck, but he talked to me like an equal. The sport was still new to me then, and I was full of questions, but Adrian treated me just like anyone else at the table. One time, we were down in Sebastian. We all went out to eat at one of the spots on the bay. The service was terrible, and the food was abysmal, bordering on inedibble. Adrian complained, and the waitress broke down in tears. "Really, I didn't mean to make her cry. No, well, I mean, she certainly deserved it, but I didn't mean to." Eventually, the manager came out and gave us our meal for free, and we left the waitress a big tip. Upon leaving, Adrian insisted we make one more stop. Someplace near by that he insisted was top notch. Given his love of good wine, I feared we were headed for a place that would be a little out of my price range. Imagine my relief when he dragged us into Earl's Hideaway, a biker bar down the street. There was more to that story, but I don't really remember much aside from the fact that we left when they closed. All my love to Kat, Ella, and all of you missing Adrian right now. They aren't responsible for that. Where they are at fault lies is in how they handled a potential safety hazard. They knew about the potential problem, and they knew about it for quite a while. They made no effort to alert the people who needed to know. I'm not saying they should be sued out of existence. I'm not saying we should all run to our rigger and rip our AADs out of our rig. What I am saying is that this was an error in judgment on their part, and we should not let it go unnoticed, or the behavior will go unchanged. What I want is for them to know we are good and pissed, and the next time a manufacturer has to chose between issuing a bulletin that may save lives, and keeping silent, we hear from them. Furthermore, as a skydiver with 8 years in the sport, I expect better behavior from a manufacturer. You can feel free to disagree with me. Methane Freefly - got stink?

Half the people I jump with are probably close to that speed. How close? Good question, but I know they can't answer it because we don't have a radar gun. I would think I made it quite clear where I feel their responsibility lies in this. Yes, Adrian could have avoided this accident by not turning on his cypress or not flying such a high speed aproach. Airtec could also have possibly avoided this accident by issuing a service bulletin or a press release the moment they were aware this potential existed. Methane Freefly - got stink?

Hey, take it easy there! Plenty of us are still freeflying. If you were at x-keys at all, you would know that! Like I said, going camping. However, I am supposed to be going on Thursday. Work may screw that up, and if we can't leave by mid-day friday, we probably won't go at all. If that happens, I'll be there throwin down some sick headup bigway style shiot bitch! Bullshit. As a consumer of their product, and a friend of those involved in this incident, I have every right to fault their handling of this issue. They new about this possibility, they did nothing to be proactive in drawing attention to it. The may have had what they thought were good reasons. They may still think they were correct, I don't know. Perhaps I should have said, "I feel this was an error in judgement." Regardless, I have every right to feel the way I do, and I have a feeling that a lot of paying customers are going to agree. Methane Freefly - got stink?

Then, "a number of months ago" there should have been a service bulletin alerting all of us to the danger involved. I don't want to slam this company, but clearly this was an error in judgment, and it cost us one of the most talented skydivers of our time. Worse, it cost Katarina her soul mate, and Ella her father. Methane Freefly - got stink?

Things you don't want to hear your President say...
jdfreefly replied to eaglenrider's topic in Speakers Corner
First off, this thread has headed way off due to my original post...I RULE!!! But in response to: These are not the people the right wingers are attacking, at least not the right wingers I talk to or listen to. I have no problem with making it a little easier for people to get started down the right road, that's why I'm pissed as all hell that the school system in this country is still broken, but where do you draw the line? You can't have a system that encourages a lifetime spent on government reliance. I am really starting to believe that this is the problem. The system is setup to discourage people from moving up the economic class scale. We are kept just comfortable enough that none of us is willing to really rock the boat for the chance to change things for the better. I don't think this was done maliciously, at least I hope it wasn't. I think the system evolved into this. I was bout to hit submit, but I thought I should add this: I find it ammusing that from my first post in this thread: this discussion has fallen into a left wing vs. right wing debate again! We are so well programmed.....me included. Methane Freefly - got stink? -

It is a grave mistake to lay the entire blame for this at Bush's feet. Many people who already didn't like him, are using this as a rallying cry, turning it into a political hot potato. Our government has failed us, from the top on down. But we are the ones to blame. I'm not sure when it happened, maybe it was a gradual thing, maybe it happened all at once in the past 20 years, but at some point, we, as a people, stopped electing leaders. We, as a people, started running from one party to the other, expecting massive change because this politician had a different label than that one. Democrat, Republican, it doesn't matter. It's just more of the same. The point of a two party system is that when the two parties stop effectively representing the needs of the people, a third party is supposed to spring up and fill in. But we are all no more than pupets of the media. They tell us, "if you throw your vote away on that third party candidate, the evil republican/democrat will win!!!" And we run to the polls and do their bidding like mindless lemmings. Our so called "leaders" keep us divided, fighting their battles so ours never get won. The system is worse than broken. If it was just broken it wouldn't make things worse. Now, it's malignant. Methane Freefly - got stink? -

I recently started looking for info on building a tetrahedron for Crosskeys, in the process, I found an old post I made to rec.skydiving in 99. As it pertains to issue number 3, I find it both amusing and sad....still the same people preaching the same wisdom, I guess it has found a whole new generation of deaf ears to fall on. Damn, I'm really starting to feel old. rec.skydiving discussion from 1999 Methane Freefly - got stink?
