  1. Do you have access to the breaker for her apartment? In my old place, the breaker for the whole building was in our basement. The people upstairs would have loud parties at all hours. I didn't care, but my roomate was a contractor and had to be up at 5:30 AM...he was quite pissed. One day, he just turned off their power and went to bed. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  2. Does any one know what force is required to break a siliband? I assumed it was higher then the force created by a pilot chute, but I could be wrong. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  3. Does anyone know how these things are made? What's in the center? I recently received one during corporate training, and I really want to know how the thing is made, but I don't want to ruin the only one I have to find out. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  4. At crosskeys we had, from top to bottom, two belly fliers, one hanger off of them, two belly fliers docked on the hanger's legs, and a second hanger off of the the bottom two belly fliers. We built it flat, and then then the low man stood up to go vertical. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  5. Instead of BOC, I would say hand deployed pilot chute, some people use pull outs, and some even use *gasp* ROL!!!!! Methane Freefly - got stink?

  7. 0$ for will....and the rest is split between everyone else! Methane Freefly - got stink?
  8. Oh man, thanks a lot for that.... I was having the most boring day, and I was in a rather foul mood. Your post brought a smile to face! You should consider whoring yourself out to big companies as a "Morale Enhancement Coach"....could be a lot of money in it for you. Please, don't listen to the others...KEEP POSTING!!!! I need the laughs and Paul and Joana need the free advertising. PS - as I said before, I believe your computer has a problem.....PEBKAC. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  9. I think he's asking if there will be the "normal" beach jumping going on as well, or if this year, the beach is only open to copmetition jupmers. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  10. good old fashion clear plastic goggles: Pros - Cheap, inexpensive, tend to do a better job of keeping the wind out of your eyes, easier to find a pair that fit your face, less likely to lose a contact lens, safer if performing an fpl(face plant landing), readily available at most dropzones, safer in low-light situations. Cons - they don't look as cool as sunglasses but hey, looking cool is important Methane Freefly - got stink?

  12. Are you going to have the plane out there on Sunday for normal fun jumping? Or will it just be there for one day as it was this past weekend? Methane Freefly - got stink?
  13. Another option is to put the unstuck toggle in your mouth, while you work the problem out. Then you can keep the wing relatively level, while you use both hands to deal with the problem. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  14. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is get back up there and try again. Other times, the person in question may benefit from sitting down and really thinking about what they did to end up in that bad situation. Said to me once - "Go sit in the corner and think about what you just did!' My reply - "But you just told me to stay out of the corner!" Methane Freefly - got stink?
  15. Has it occured to you that if insurance companies stopped implying that we aren't safe unless we have insurance, that people might stop thinking insurance will take care of us no matter what jack ass stupid thing we do? The insurance loby is one of the most powerful ones in the country. As far as I have seen, it is their policy to deny a claim first and see if the policy holder takes it. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  16. I'll be in Nashville, on the 1st, then going to Chattanooga for 3 days. Any idea where there is that is good to jump around there? Methane Freefly - got stink?
  17. In #7 things begin to go bad, but it still looked recoverable. In #8 and #9, it looks like you've got your right arm out and your getting ready to fall. If you're trying to use your arms to brace for a fall, you are no longer flying the parachute. Keep flying! As far as stupid hurting goes, well, if it didn't hurt, would we ever learn? Methane Freefly - got stink?
  18. Haha... very funny asshole! So at this point, I think maybe I should add to the discussion. I haven't jumped a velo since I was injured under one a year and a half ago. When I got hurt, I had probably 10 to 15 jumps under a velocity, but I had never really devoted the time to getting to know the parachute. I made a mistake low to the ground, one that should have been recoverable, but because I didn't know the parachute well enough, it cost me. In my opinion, it is only due to luck and thick bones that I am not dead. Also, since then, I saw two friends die under one in a wrap, another friend hurt under one and numerous people I've watched escape death or injury by a rch(red cunt hair, a slightly larger margin than a blonde cunt hair, but less then a black one). Since that time, I've had a lot of time to think about this, and my new opinion, and one I am hoping to spread, is this: Just like a tandem is not just another skydive, the velocity, and any crossbraced canopy like it, is not just another parachute. I think too many of us think of it as just another step forward in the progression, and I think that is a mistake. There is nothing out there that will prepare you for just how unforgiving this parachute is, and when you transition to it, you should take it very seriously. Never in the history of the sport have we had a parachute where the line between a survivable landing and a fatality is so thin. The technology has changed, and it is high time we changed with it. I know all ram air canopies are unforgiving, but these things would just as soon kill you as put you on the ground in one piece. I understand the point of view that if you think you need 10, 20 or even 30 jumps in no traffic to be comfortable under something that performs at this level, you may not be ready for it. But look at it another way, is it going to hurt? What if you manage to learn something in those jumps that happens to save your life when things go bad? Take it even farther, what if everyone going through any canopy transition took the time to do this? Would it decrease the number of landing accidents? Maybe, maybe not...but it certainly wouldn't increase them. I think it would be a great thing if everyone, from the student moving to his first 1:1, or the 3 year veteran moving to a cross-braced, took the time off from their normal jumping routine to get to know their new gear better. I actually considered coming up with a "canopy transition syllabus", but then I realized that I am lazy...and I can't spell sillybus. As I said, I have my own plan. I just thought I would try to start an interesting discussion. Maybe I'll follow up later and actually write that sillybus...perhaps some of the more quallified veterans out there would like to get the ball rolling. Then again, maybe I'm just being a safety nazi...I get like that sometimes. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  19. I already have my plan, but I am curious to see what the crowd says. Hop and pops only for x number of jumps to feel it out, or just throw it in the rig and go jumping, and pull high for a few to feel it out...or, just throw it in the rig and see how it fits into your normal day. 21. Just for the record, I held this job for about a year and a half. My father purchased a portable sanitation company around the time I dropped out of school. He swore up and down that they were little brown nuggets of gold... Well, we never got rich off of it, and he sold it shortly after I told him I wasn't going to work in it any longer. That job was instrumental in rekindling my desire to return to college. Oh yeah, as far as those guys not getting that dirty, I have to call absolute bullshit on that one. 22. I don't think Rice can get the nomination, because she would be too liberal for the neo-cons in the party. I don't think McCain won't get the nomination because big business won't support him. The republicans have become arrogant from their recent success, and I think this arrogance will cause them to swing even farther to the right than they already are. The end result will be them nominating someone who is incredibly distasteful to the populace.(jeb bush anyone?) The democrats, are also becoming arrogant. Listen to them talk, they believe the 2008 election is going to be won by a democrat, no matter who they nominate. The end result of this will be that they nominate a candidate who is just as distasteful to the american public as the republican candidate.(billary?) In my hopeful opinion, this leaves the country set perfectly for a solid third party candidate to come to the forefront. Wouldn't it be nice to have a candidate we voted for because we believed in them? The current system of voting against the one we don't want to win does not seem to be working too well. I really hope that this happens, but it is most likely wishful thinking. If it does happen, they will probably get assassinated anyway or hamstrung by congress. Methane Freefly - got stink?

  24. I think that if he was following policy with respect to the 24 hour limit on filing reports, and the sermon came after it had already been determined that you could not be helped at that time, he was perfectly within his rights to do what he did. I would also add that you are perfectly within your rights to complain loudly and often, and to anyone who will listen. I see it more as an abuse of power then an issue of separation of church and state. If he had said, "I am not going to help you because you are a sinner, and it is the policy of the police department to deny service to non-christians."... then, certainly, this would be a violation of the separation of church and state. I will say this, I certainly wouldn't want him working in any police station near me, and if he did, I would do everything within my power to get him fired. Methane Freefly - got stink?
