  1. No, actually most of them are hardworking professional athletes who feel blessed to get to play a game for a living and are disappointed by the way a small minority of the players handle their wealth and fame. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  2. No more than 500 jumps. After that, you should fucking know better. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  3. Tried the search and I didn't see anyone else with this issue. Trying to setup a helmet with a flatlock and a CX100 in a cookie box. The hole for the camera screw that is in the aluminum plate inside the CX100 box does not line up with the slot for the camera screw on the plate from the flatlock. Anyone else have this issue or know how to solve it? Methane Freefly - got stink?
  4. And I would maybe buy that argument if it weren't for this statement in the Governors response: Methane Freefly - got stink?
  5. See link below http://www.progressivepuppy.com/the_progressive_puppy/2009/11/rhode-island-governor-vetoes-burial-rights-for-gay-couples.html This was a move by the governor to deny equal rights to domestic partners. How is this anything other than actively discriminating against gays? It just seems mean to me. I would post a more balanced version of coverage, but I couldn't find any yet. 6. One of the things I've learned over the last year of biking to work is that when there is no bike lane, and you try to be courteous to drivers by staying as far to the right as possible, that courtesy will be repaid by people crowding you...you are actually much better off riding in the middle of the lane and forcing drivers to fully change lanes to go around you. It also greatly decreases your chances of getting "doored". Really, you people that think bikers are just a nuisance should spend a week riding your bikes to work, it might open your eyes. 7. Agent Squeak...message received. Your liason will contact you shortly. The pearl is in the river, but keep to the right of the rapids. The Dali Lama sends his regards. For gods sake, don't let them find the secret weapon hidden in your anus. (I think communist China should be visiting you shortly with a rubber glove and some lube) Methane Freefly - got stink?
  8. Not to be a serious dick head, but have you ever actually tried to use a bicycle as your primary form of transportation? Ever had someone who thought you were "blocking traffic" nearly kill you so they could get to their red light faster? Ever had someone try to teach you a lesson by zipping around you as close as they can get without actually hitting you...ever had them fail and clip you with their mirror? I've been using my bike to get to work in San Francisco for over a year now. Besides losing over 20 pounds, I've learned to have a little more empathy for both sides of the argument. Yes bicycles can be an annoyance to a motorist. Yes, some bicyclists are incredibly rude and purposely ride to piss off drivers, things could be greatly improved if cyclists had some sympathy for the poor bastards sitting in traffic watching their life slip away as the lights change...but some of us are just trying to get to work without being killed by an asshole. To all you fucking pricks out there that think it's ok for you to "educate" cyclists on the right of way...That's a lethal fucking weapon you're driving, try to remember that the next time you try to clip a cyclist with your side view mirror. 9. If you lived and didn't get hurt, you did the right thing at that moment in time. A better question to ask yourself right now is what you would do differently on that ENTIRE skydive. From your comments it's pretty clear that you realize the mistake. The time to deal with these issues is at 2000 feet, not 100. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  10. Love the sentiment, and he's right they are spending all their time debating bullshit and not trying to fix/solve the hard problems. Unfortunately he's a bit of a hypocrite since he has done some of the same political pandering in his tenure. Methane Freefly - got stink?

  12. I'm wondering why there was no drogue on the tandem one. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  13. However, AFF is almost certainly not the only (or even a significant) contributor. It wasn't generally available until 1983, and even then it took awhile to spread. Most students at that time still learned via S/L. Tandem was after that. The big drop was after 80 and 81; those were awful years. Gear very possibly had something to do with it, but that'd take doing more data collection. Wendy P. The POINT is that NickDG's claim is simply incorrect, which kind of invalidates his rant. The reason for the improvement in safety is another matter entirely and is open for discussion (but that's a different thread). So...a better position to take up might be that the modern gear and training have been a great success but when you look at the very obvious trends in the sport we still have a long way to go. maybe? I don't think our training methods and rules are fully flushed out yet..clearly since friends keep dying or getting seriously hurt. Someday some new and energetic DZO or skydiver is going to come up with a new policy for landing patterns or a new syllabus for canopy control training and 5 years latter we'll all be wondering how we never thought of it earlier. We'll sit around the bonfire with the new jumpers and tell stories about the old days, when people thought they could effectively clear their airspace...and a few of us will point at the fatalities these new policies or training methods failed to prevent and rail against them and demand the good old days...and I'll keep burying friends or god willing visit them in the hospital. ...I have to give it to popsjumper though, I think he nailed it: "Life is simple: Don't be the idiot" Methane Freefly - got stink?
  14. Is that the student fatality rate or the overall fatality rate? The impression I've gotten from people in the sport since the 80s is that AFF is generally a safer method than static line, that's an impression...I have no solid numbers to back it up. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  15. I really think the healthcare system needs to be reformed. However, if they are going to make healthcare the smashing success that public education is, I am very scared. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  16. I love your post. Don't really agree with it but I like the idea of challenging the status quo in teaching methods. I keep seeing people go in, so I assume there's room for improvement. However...this: I gotta call bullshit. Are you saying that the number of active skydivers in the US in 1980 was the same as the number now? Are you also implying the student fatality rate is the same? I find it hard to believe we don't have fewer (as a percentage) student fatalities and more active jumpers than we did in 1980. 17. Take a canopy control course if you can. If you cant, do this: Spend an entire day doing nothing but hop and pops. Try finding someone at the dz that can video your landings. Spend the time doing hop and pops to learn the flight of the canopy you are jumping. Have someone who knows what they are doing review the video with you, preferably between jumps. Just devoting a day to canopy flight and not thinking about freefall will have a very positive effect on your landings. Methane Freefly - got stink?

  19. I have a voodo and a wings container. I've replaced the risers on both with vector's true lock risers. Brake fires are less frequent, and when they happen the true lock functionality makes it not that big of a deal. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  20. Was that Eric's video? I contributed footage but still haven't seen the finished product... What's up with that!? Methane Freefly - got stink?
  21. I think I can help clear this up: Pss, hey Guido, its all so clear to me now. I'm the keeper of the cheese and you're the lemon merchant, you get it? And he knows it. That's why he's gonna kill us. So we got to beat it, ya, before he let's loose the marmosets on us. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  22. When considering laws like this, you need to consider what it is you are trying to do but what is it you are NOT trying to do. Are you trying to give police cart blanch to pull blood from a suspect in any crime? Because that is how this will be used. Figure out a reasonable way to take care of this and not further erode my rights. Methane Freefly - got stink?
  23. That's nothing...check this out: Let... a=1 b=1 That means a=b multiply both sides by a a2 = ab Subtact b2 from both sides a2 - b2 = ab - b2 Factor (a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b) Divide both sides by (a-b) *crosses out both (a-b)* a+b=b If a=1 and b=1 Then 1+1=1 2=1 Methane Freefly - got stink?
  24. This seems like a fairly balanced presentation of Dr' Taylor's views: http://www.nnsl.com/northern-news-services/stories/papers/sep17_07bear.html FTA: It's important to note that he does believe in climate change, he just doesn't believe it is having an impact on polar bear populations. Also, I only skimmed the article, but I don't think it gives his opinion one way or the other that climate change is man made or part of a natural cycle only that he believes climate change is real. One could argue his opinion on that is irrelevant since he's a biologist. Methane Freefly - got stink?
