I have it, I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. No real carnage, just a few out of control AFF students and some spinning mains.

Yet another feature request... How about an ad index? Every once in a while I remember an ad that I want to go back to and I'll have reload until it shows up again. It would be convenient if there was a page that showed all of the ads currently in rotation.

And the IT department said, "Thou shalt ask Google how to fix it before opening new trouble tickets, for It knows all."

I wonder if they got permission for the music that they used on the DVD, especially one rather popular Bon Jovi song? I actually checked every other dealer I knew of to see if anybody else carried the video. The DVD isn't terrible, but it isn't worth $25 plus shipping. I'll watch it again. The AFF instructor going through his student's lines after he dumped him out was the only thing on the tape that I hadn't seen before. And I have to admit that the barrel-rolling King Air was cool.

Recently I've become interested in learning rigging, at least on a conceptual level. Maybe someday I'll even learn to do it for real. Anyway, I figured one of Poynter's Manuals would probably be a good place to start, but I don't know which one to get, Volume I or Volume II. At fifty bucks a shot, I can really only afford one of them right now, and the Paragear catalog isn't much help in deciding. So I guess the question is, which Poynter book would be best for somebody looking to learn about rigging in general? Thanks, Brian

Alright, I bought this thing on the day that the thread was started. It showed up this morning and I watched it this afternoon. Some thoughts: This isn't a professional video. The box cover and disc label were printed on a bubble jet. The disc is burned, not pressed. The editing is about what I would expect from a well practiced amateur with a copy of Premier. Running time is about 40 minutes, according to the box. Much of the video appears to have been shot at Sky's The Limit. I have a feeling that John and Janine were involved in this, because it has their modified Vector Tandem Waiver Video and the Reaper Cam video from their website. The box proclaims, "Malfunctions! Canopy Collisions! Aircraft Near Misses! Hook Turns & Pond Swoops Gone Wrong!" Most of the malfunctions were spinning mains, with a low pull induced two out and a few premature deployments thrown in. There was exactly one canopy collision (CReW wrap) and one near miss. One aircraft "near miss." A bunch of hook turns and pond swoops, with a couple of people falling down or chowing. The raft dive pictured on the front cover had potential, but it went perfectly. Upright and stable for the entire jump. In fact, the whole video was like this. I didn't count or anything, but I feel confident guessing that less than half of the clips were of accidents or malfunctions. Those that were shown were pretty mundane as far as malfunctions go, mostly spun up mains or out of control AFF students. I can't recommend the video. Spend the money on a copy of Good Stuff with More Stuff or one of Pier's PSN videos instead. Then head over to skydivingmovies.com for some good malfunction videos.

I'm thinking about writing a Snopes-bot that'll fact check new posts, but it would probably piss too many people off (one person in particular).

That is really funny, even though it's fake.

Jimmy John's Gargantuan (this explains the recent sudden weight gain), anything from Italian Ovens (local place), and for some reason I really really love McD's double quarter pounder with cheese, but only when the patties are right off of the "grill".

Blow off work and come out to SDC tommorrow. It's gonna be cold as hell, but jumpable.

That email right on a few of the facts, but that doesn't make it true.

What do you mean MacOS is a crappy server platform? We have an OS 9 box running a 1999 vintage copy of WebSTAR to serve FileMaker documents. The whole thing is actually composed of a rickety combination of three Macs (file server, database server, web/database server) that, as far as I can tell, only two people in the entire world completely understand. OK, so that's a bad example. As it turns out, the only other platform the database software runs on is Windows, and moving it over would still require three computers and be no less complicated or prone to fucking up randomly. As much as I love Macs (bonus points if you can identify my avatar), I have to admit that although the xserves are nice, a Linux box or a Win2k box will still get you far more bang for the buck.

0:0:0 Home from college for the first time since the semester started. It's always nice to see the folks. I also have access to my car again. Which means, if the weather stays jumpable, I will be at SDC on Wednesday. So, uh, is anybody else gonna be around?

Depends. What size and type of container and what type of main? I have a Spectre 170 shoehorned into a Vector III V344 (sized for a Spectre 150). I'm actually limited by the size of the bag and main container, not the length of the closing loop.

I'm not a big fan of Microsoft, but I think you're being a little harsh. Outlook can be run safely. The simple solution is to turn off Windows Scripting Host. A vast majoirty of home users will never use it, and removing it will stop most Outlook viruses cold. The only other vulnerability that I've heard of recently was a buffer overflow exploit in the preview pane, and it has been patched. That said, Outlook Express is a total piece of crap. The only thing that it has in common with Outlook is the name and the fact that it handles email (poorly). I also think that Outlook is overkill for most home users. All of the fancy features that Microsoft charges extra for will rarely be used outside of a business environment.

IMDB lists Allan Hewitt as a "parachute pilot." I didn't see any credits for aerial camera work, or any other names that I recognized.

I've gotten that too, just laughed and filed it as a banned sender.

I do exactly the same thing. I have three addresses: A private address that I don't post online anywhere that is completely unfiltered. I never get any spam on that account. I have another address that I use for lists and stuff. Lists that I have subscribed to are forwarded to my main email address and I read everything else when I get a chance. My third address is for things like sites that require registration. I delete 99% of what comes through there without ever looking at it.

What do you plan on doing with the computer? If you just want to word process and surf, they are great computers, if overpriced. Macs are also really great for users who aren't [put delicately] especially good with computers [/put delicately]. If you are computer savvy, want to play the lastest games, and want to save some bucks, go with a PC. If you want an easy to use computer that will more than handle most common tasks and you have the extra cash, you can't beat the Mac.

Buzz isn't telling you to do anything unsafe. If he wants to make a rule requiring AADs on his dropzone, then that's his decision to make. You have to evaluate the risks of doing CRW with your Cypres turned on. If you decide that doing CRW with an AAD is too dangerous, then don't do CRW at Otay. There are plenty of other DZs in SoCal that would be more than happy to take your money.

Definitely nice, except I can't view the photo galleries with Netscape. The popup window just goes crazy and opens all of the pictures.

Anyone know how long it is?

The one that made me wonder, was how many airlines run 4 engine piston aircraft anymore? Noisy, slow, maintenance nightmares, you couldn't get an airline to touch one with a ten foot pole.

Ditto with the bot theory. Notice that 15 minutes later the number of guests has dropped to 8. Most bots just ignore cookies. Since the forums use cookies to track usesrs (even guests), I would guess each bot access is counted as a new guest.
