Or step up to 2000. If you can run ME then you can run 2000, and you'll get vastly improved stability. I've had one blue screen on a 2k box, and that was caused by beta graphics drivers.

I have too many of these stories. Like the Ph.D who turned on her computer while it was wet (a stopped up sink had been left running upstairs overnight). She got lucky and only fried the monitor. Somehow, the computer and laser printer survived. The grad student who called me because she had jammed three Zip disks in three different drives. Turns out that she had figured out how to connect the parallel cable all by herself, but didn't realize that she needed to plug in the AC adapters, too. The head of the department (and Ph.D), who bitches about Microsoft because his cheap piece of crap USB floppy drive doesn't work with his TiBook. The Ph.D who wanted me to give both of his computers (one of which was not approved by the department) the same IP address, and promised to only turn one machine on at a time.

Plan 9 from Outer Space It's awesome. Bela Lugosi died part way through filming, but instead of filming all of his scenes over, they just had another actor pick up where he left off. Since movies are shot out of sequence, the monster is Lugosi in one scene, then some other actor in the next, and back and forth for the whole movie. It's hilarous. They drive out of the shot, then drive into the next scene in a completely different car. The headstones in the cemetary wobble when actors brush up against them. The alien's space ship... I could go on, but I won't. The DVD is only $12 from Amazon. I highly recommend it.

I'm not a rigger, but I know that if you want me to believe your claims, you need to use the same measuring method on all three canopies. PD's website says that the span and chord on a PD-176R are 19.22 and 9.15, respectively, for an area of 175.86 square feet. So by the "multiply the span and chord method" (which I believe is not valid because the Heatwave and Stilleto are not square), the PD-176 is actually smaller than the Stilleto, but larger than the Heatwave. You cannot choose to believe PD's sizing information for one canopy, but not for another. You need to pick one system and stick with it.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great gameplay is timeless. So what if the graphics aren't top of the line, the gameplay is still as good as any FPS, with the possible exception of Counterstrike, which is even older. As for the Doom III thing. Even people who have copies of the leaked demo can't tell if it will be very good yet. The graphics are killer, but the game is totally unoptimized and doesn't even included any comlete levels yet.

November 17th. got weathered out over Thanksgiving break, have exams on Monday that I need to study for this weekend, and have to study next weekend for finals. So it'll be another two weeks for me, at least. And I'm gonna miss Chili Party. I really wanted to compete in the tiny bike races. Kinda funny story about Thanksgiving break (or "Fall break" to maintiain U of I mandated political correctness): I went down to SDC the day after Turkey Day even though it didn't look like I was going to get to jump because, and I hate to say it, I couldn't stand spending another day cooped up with my relatives. So I didn't jump at SDC because winds were nuts and loads with only 7 people on them were still putting people waaaay off of the airport. I ended up talking to this rigger, and he was telling me "this one time, this chick wanted to do a pornstar exit and kiss me in freefall." And I was like "Cheryl?" and he was like, "You know Cheryl?" That was funnier while it was still in my head. P.S. This crappy story made me think, what is the minimum number of degrees needed to connect yourself to every skydiver on the planet (i.e., I've jumped with x, x jumped with y, y jumped with z, and so on), like Six Degrees Of Kevin Bacon? I have a Spectre 170 that I'm putting into a container built for a 150. The only reason I psycho pack is because at the time I got the rig, it was easier for me to bag the psycho pack than the pro pack. 40 pack jobs later, I can get a pro pack in the bag almost as easily as a psycho pack. In my case, psycho packing didn't bring better openings, but it also didn't make them worse, other than a slight increase in "hunting for a heading." The downsides of psycho packing: You'll probably want to add a bridle extension to reduce unnecessary wear on your canopy. People will look at you funny and offer to teach you how to pro pack constantly. At least one person will tell you a story about about a guy who knew a guy who had a bunch of cutaways after he started psycho packing (I think these stories are, for the most part, just rumors). In my case, psycho packing seems to bring a mild increase in "hunting for a heading" during canopy inflation. Upsides: Bagging the canopy can be easier. Some people get better openings.

Those are the comp rates. But really, if you look at it the competition jumps are somewhat reasonably priced. Freefly, for example, costs about $27 per round per competitor. That's not bad at all considering that a camera flier is included. It's the entry fee that feels like a ripoff.
